Are steam rooms good for you? Are steam rooms good for you?

Pretty simple. I was wondering if they would turn my skin red in the medium term.

I read up on some yahoo answers and whatnot and they seem to think that the steam room can remove toxins through sweating, be good for respiration, and muscle relaxation. Is any of this stuff scientifically backed up? Yes I've googled it. 2p2 always has such good answers so I had to come here. Thanks experts.

At public gyms most of the men who go into the steamroom are hoping to engage in activities that can result in redness.

I have no official knowledge on the subject, but I do find they help with chest/nasal congestion, never noticed any skin redness.

Hottub would prolly be better for muscle relaxation imo.

Just my 2 cents.

It's better if you hit yourself with sticks and branches while in the steam room.

I go to the Turkish baths all the time. I sometimes give my friends oak leaf rubdowns. ^

Your skin turns red if you have a light complexion because it is really hot and your blood vessels open up/blood goes to the surface to cool. it goes away in 2-10 minutes.

I don't know about toxins.

I feel super relaxed and any soreness I had goes away. Do the steam room then a cold plunge then sit and relax. Rinse and repeat. It's awesome.

I can speak to this. It really, really has helped for me. I have very bad nasal congestion due to allergies. I take zyrtec, flonase and at times a sudafed or two to deal with it.

The steam room works at least as well as all of those to clear my **** up and it usually lasts well into the next day.

Usually you start by placing it "around" the hole as opposed to directly into the hole as that creates some sort of confusion. Lubricating your chosen "implement" is advised as well.

I'm almost positive everyone posting in this thread about how sweet a "steamroom" is.... is a ****ing moron. Mostly because I don't want to be in anything that is:

a warm, wet and porous environment ideal for the harvesting of all types of harmful organic matter.

I've read that sauna (dry) are good if you spend 5-10 mn there after workout. For recovery. I have no idea whether this is true or not.

Steam stuff such as Russian baths/sweat lodges have to be experienced at least once because they are super hardcore, and hardcore=fun.

I have a steam room in my baller mansion so I thrashed about on the internet for an hour to see what it did and got super frustrated at the lack of scientific data available. This article was the only one that made any kind of sense at all. I just use it to be social cause guests like it, or maybe if I don't feel well I hop in. Jumping in the pool after the steam room is fun.
