After 3 months of home gym I'm interested to see how much strength I've lost as it's difficult to get any meaningful variation or heavy intensities.

Been pretty much doing the same thing every week.

Rotating flat and incline DB presses @95 5x10 and standing DB presses with 45s.

Might be another 6 months before I attempt to get back on a real bench again.

After 5 months of not being able to access a proper bench I'm really curious to see where my strength is at from just doing the same DBs every week for this long.

Wish there was a gym open so I could do a quick 1RM and bounce.

Doesn't look like any gyms are opening up anytime soon.

I think I'm just going to buy a squat rack. Originally I didn't think I was going to have the space for it, but after a second look I think I have room on my balcony.

Maybe consider one of these as a space saver if you want to try to stay indoors.

Thanks. I was considering this one as well.

The problem with buying most home gym stuff right now is that most things are sold out and on back order. We had to put together our home gym buying everything on the OfferUp app. We got a similar rack to the one above, a barbell, bench, and set of plates for $1600. Then spent more on bumpers, flooring and more plates and are prob at around $2500 now. Everything is kinda pricey since there is a huge demand.

Yeah luckily there's a local warehouse type shop near me so they have stock. When I look on Rogue or any online shop they are typically sold out.

But yeah between the rack, plates and bar I estimate I'll be spending around $2k

The pictured rack has j-hook holes that are spaced too far apart. If you'd like to rack your squat and bench at an appropriate height, I'd look for something else.

Honestly given prices and availability it would probably be better to just sketch out something for a fabricator to custom build for like 600 bucks. It's a simple steel frame with holes punched through it.

How can you tell just from that picture? Anyways I'm going to test it out to make sure it fits my height specs before I buy it.

It's just a common commercial rack design. You can tell from the picture that they're 3-4 inches at least. Not to hawk for starting strength, but their rack is more in line with what is ideal. There are a lot more holes, especially toward the bottom for rack pulls or floor press.

edit: also those j-hooks are kind of crap for bench self-unrack.

why can't you just buy a pair of these? way more economical and super easy to tuck away when you're not lifting. I've been benching, pressing and squatting in my home gym with them for 10 years

I did consider that. But one thing l like about the rack are the safety bars so I can do stuff like dead bench, pin presses and can also fail safely.

I ended up just ordering this one as it came into stock with the safety bars. With the pull up bar it's pretty much everything I need. Was also able to grab a barbell as well. The plates are still sold out so will have to wait in those.

Seems like a far better and more affordable choice. I kind of want one.

Barbell arrived last night. Damn it's been 8 months since I last held one. Gotta wait awhile for the rack to arrive though. At least I can do some different warm up stuff now.

Squat rack finally arrived. Pretty happy with it. Very compact footprint and has everything I want.

Pretty pumped to get in a proper bench and press session after several months of nothing but dumbbells.

I take it that rain is not much of a concern for you

No, when it did rain no water got inside the balcony. But even so I bought a cover for it so it'll be covered up when I'm not using it.

Looking at it closer I think I have the same plates as you.

Might even be the same bar. Is it a 45 lb bar or a 20 kg bar?

It's a 45lb bar from Rogue. The weights are from a local fitness supply warehouse, not sure on the brand. But they're pretty much the same thing as the Rogue US-mil bumpers.

I got my weights from the same kind of place. Looks like they had the same supplier.

Did my first barbell work today in a very long time. Damn does it feel heavy.

Was able to pull off some sets of 5 at 185 on the press. Got some work to do.

This is what the set up looks like when it's covered up.

I haven't really followed your log, so I forgot how strong you were, but being able to get up off your couch and throw up 185x5 on OHP is nothing to sneeze at.

Thanks, yeah I haven’t had much to log since early this year anyways. I do hope I'm able to make some progress this next year.

First bench session was eye opening.

Warm up:
bar x20
135 x10
185 x5
225x5
245x3

Work:
5x3 275

CG bench
3x8 185

Man that very first set or 2 at 275 felt heavy AF. If I had to venture a guess I would say my current 1RM is probably around 330.

I think I'll hop back on Gillingham's program to get some structure again and build back up.

But all that db work was enough to slow down the regression but definitely not enough to maintain where I was at.
