I used to play a full schedule until abt 5-6 years ago. Now 45 and glory days are clearly behind me. Wish I had been more consistent in the gym when I was playing.

Posting to follow. Glglgl
Thanks, I'm gonna post some updates in my get better thread over there.

Ship--this talked me into playing the US Am qualifier (36 one day) so I hope to be fit enough come mid July. I have four qualifiers this summer and I hope to go 2/4 or better. USGA and TX Am's and mid-Am's.

I feel really good right now and I just started watching all of Kelly Starrett's mobility WOD stuff to hopefully finally open up my forever stiff posterior chain.

A week full of travel and drinking finally caught up to me. Got a bit of a head cold that luckily went away after a couple good nights sleep. Think I need to up my Vit C and D supplementation especially because we haven't seen the sun in Dallas in a month.

5k is this upcoming Saturday, still feeling weak but got a 20 minute run today and went 2.43 miles. That's just about pace to break 26 minutes so I'm happy with it.

Really need to find a way to work on my golf game, state Am is 24 days away yet Dallas is under water and my short game needs tons of improvement. Plan is to really hammer mobility in June and introduce sprints back into my workouts. Goal will be 5:30 treadmill mile but might reassess squat and DL goals seeing how I've fallen behind due to illness. Also might just get one heavy leg day this week due to 5k.

maybe this will help you with your colitis..

10 years ago I has an emergency appendectomy. The surgeon told me that my appendix was not my only problem. I had colitis and this caused a large infection in my intestine that had spread to my appendix.

He told me to go home and heal from the 1st surgery and come back in a couple of weeks for a colonoscopy to determine the next step. Which was likely removal of some of my intestine if the infection did not heal. He also told me I would be living with colitis for the rest of my life.

I was in a real bind and willing to do anything.......

One of my good friends is a doctor of Chinese medicine. Not just an acupuncturist, but a full doctor (there is a huge difference). She put me on a serious diet. No gluten, no refined sugar, little if no grain, no dairy, no soy, no alcohol, no deep fryer... Basically I was only eating meat, chicken, fish, eggs, fruits and vegetables. She also put me on some gross Chinese herbs too.

I went back for the scheduled colonoscopy after about a month. They found no infection, no signs of colitis and everything had healed!!! Once the surgeon got the results he called me into his office. I was very worried that he saw something. It was the opposite. He called me in to ask what I had done. He said it was the 1st time he had seen someones stomach heal this well, this fast. He actually did not believe me when I told him of the diet I was on and who put me on it. He was not at all interested. He was actually frustrated because he had told me to eat lots of "cream of wheat." He thought it would be easy on my stomach and I had not eaten 1 bite of it.

These days, I eat a much healthier diet then pre surgery. I admit, I do not stick 100% to the diet. If my stomach gets at all irritated (indigestion, diarrhoea, blood..ect). I jump right back on the diet and within a couple days I feel good. I usually stick to the diet and slowly fall off it until needed again. These days I can eat almost any food except pizza. I can handle cheese burgers, fries and a few beers once in a while. But for some reason pizza is a "killer" on my stomach. If I know I have been eating poorly I try to jump back on the diet before my stomach forces me too.

Cheers and good luck...

Thanks, the toughest part about being diagnosed is there is no silver bullet. I had zero relief from dietary restrictions but biologics put me immediately in remission. JayAA on here had to go surgery route. I do wonder if you actually have UC, sounds more like IBS with a case of C Diff. You never had cultures done proving colitis, correct?

As far as I know I never had cultures, unless they were done during the colonoscopy. Thankfully, I started to figure out solutions to many of the problems with my stomach before the surgeon got involved for a second time. The biggest thing for me is to be very aware of my digestion. I am to the point that I have to head off problems before they occur. I know when I have been eating poorly. I can do it for a meal or two, but I need to quickly get on a strict diet and help my stomach out. If I keep eating poorly Im in big trouble. Sadly, to much wheat and dairy combined seem to be my biggest issue.

For me my problems were a combo of diet and stress.

Last update for May, my 5k got rescheduled due to weather so I went and ran one myself.

24:20 (WR!)

Kept a nice even 8min mile pace with a nice kick at the end. Pretty spent but hopefully I can get in the low 20s by end of summer.

Bodyweight today was 158, holding fairly steady which is fine. My two main goals are aesthetics and golf performance. To truly start looking better I need a lot more size but I'm not doing that during summer and golf season.

What I really need to focus on in June is

Mobility
Cardio/leg strength for golf
Continue to slowly progress on strength lifts

Hopefully by September I can get myself to a spot to really get after it in the gym for 6 months or so. Health is good right now.

Thanks, couldn't quite put it together this week against arguably the toughest field I ever played against. Still was a bad break and two bad decisions from easily making the cut.

Still have three big qualifiers remaining including US Am, US Mid-Am, and TX Mid-Am.

Told myself at beginning of the summer 2/4 would be sweet and 3/4 would be insane seeing how that would guarantee a USGA major.

Swing and mental approach needs a lot of work to make 3/4 happen but I'm willing to grind on the range and adjust my psyche to be able to free things up come tournament play.

You definitely should try competing again it's fun and man the kids these days are good. Really enjoyed playing with four D1 golfers over the first two days (and one in practice round).

Been working out all week but taking it someone easy on the heavy lifts.

Set a few running WRs including 3.5 mile jog and 1:19 quarter mile.

Been grinding my golf game hard because the Texas Am was just one of my four summer majors. Hopefully I can qualify for a few others. Big goals for July will be to grind mobility hard and work more on core stuffs.

Nothing interesting to report, barbell incline bench hasn't stressed my shoulder too much. Did 5x135 today. Also ran a 27:30 3.5 miler this morning. Ran same distance is 24:45 just a handful of days ago.

One day into July and I already slacked on my mobility work. Might try to get up early tomorrow to knock out 30 minutes. I think it all comes down to my hamstrings. It makes deadlifting tough and I think it's holding back my golf swing. My left hamstring has been tight my whole life. Been watching Starret's videos hopefully I can loosen these bad boys up.

Diet has generally been good minus a 24 hour period each weekend where I stop giving a ****. If I ever wanted to make true aesthetic changes I would have to start here but I'm happy to maintain in summer and tack on some size starting in September. Have a 36 hole one-day qualifier in 19 days which will be a great test of fitness.
