It would be way easier to get bigger and stronger as fk then diet your fat ass off rather than do these silly RFL cycles, gaining 2 lb. of LBM and losing 1 lb. of fat every 2 months or whatever.

What you're doing is very time inefficient and ultimately will limit your upper bound of strength. Fat is not a "problem." It is necessary for recovery.

Mostly I have a problem with the title of this post. It is just a flat lie.

Goddamn it. I've weighed this back and forth, argh.

Is there a decent chance I'll reach intermediate in 4 months, given strict adherence to the program? FWIW I checked vs the strength level table, my squat/press is close-ish to intermediate levels, while DL/BP is pretty much exactly at novice. I KNOW the table is irrelevant to novice/intermediate stages, just to give a guideline.

Cause yes, there is no wai in hell I'm going into summer at 25% BF.

Do what makes you happy. Ask smiley or tsearcher to change the title to "Soulman's log" to do what makes kyleb happy. Then everybody is happy.

Obv we all care about different things. I mostly dun curr what my body looks like as long as I throw baseballs hard and hit them over the fence. I am fine being at 20% BF (currently 25% or whatever) and I'm only dieting because it fits well with my baseball skillz. Of secondary importance is the ability to lift heavy things for the hell of it.

You care about not being "fat" compared to your European brethren. I can only assume this means not being over 165 lbs. because that would be obscene unless you are 40 years of age.

But seriously. Artificially limiting your BF every 2 months is stupid. Have you stopped to think that maybe your injuries are at least partially due to the fact that you carry little bodyfat?

EDIT: Soulman is a good poster. He is funny and knows that squatz are the way to get chicks and become strong. This is why I dislike the thread title, as noobs may see it and go "zomg a SS log to follow" then find a bunch of silly nonsense like starvation diets every 2 months and think that this is normal. Otherwise I don't care; he can do whatever he likes.

Yeah. Tough lurve is still lurve.

FWIW, I'm European too and I can confirm that there is a slightly different view on things wrt to appearance etc. here. While it's not true that everyone is extremely skinny (statistically, a high % of people is overweight), you def. lack the category of "heavy high school or college football players". If you are heavier than 200 lbs here, you are usually either fat or a stupid bro ('pumper' as we like to call them here). So I can def. feel where Soulman is coming from and I have huge dislike for the belly fat that I have gathered too, esp. because I was more of the skinny type for all my life. In contrast to Soul though, I'm happy to have added like at least 110 lbs to my squat, 160 lbs to my DL and 50 lbs to my bench since I started lifting with proper technique. That gives me a larger frame that hides the belly.

Soul, I think you are overthinking and overanalyzing a lot of this. You don't need RFL etc. Just adjust your meals. I accidentally ate too little during the last weeks and I lost a couple of BF% (and got in trouble in the gym) without even losing weight. So just eat less for a while. And btw. I don't know how old you are, but I'm in my late 20s and most of the women I meet now say, they rather have a heavier guy who's a man than a skinny dude who's a boy. So get over it.

You Eurotards need to embrace the soul of your ancestors. Isn't Soulman from Norway or something? What would the Vikings think about his disgraceful concept of Rapid Fat Loss? They would probably heartily laugh, recruit Thremp into their clan of 890sStrong men, and continue raping and pillaging while carrying 23% BF and running over the opposition who couldn't squat 225 lbs (or 8 stone or whatever it is over there).

Pretty sure my injuries (elbow and anterior hip flexors) were due to bad form, since they went away after fixing form.

I'll mull over this some more, you've given me something to think about kyle, thanks. FWIW I wouldn't have done the first RFL cycle had I known what I do today. If I hadn't I probably would have been close to intermediate right now.

I'll change the log name if I end up doing it anyway.

My target weight? Heh, I dunno. Around 190 prolly. Would mean around 12-13% BF with 10 lbs more LBM. I've gotten over the fear of being 165+

Edit:
  • I'm 34. I still don't likes 20% BF, those bishes can GTFO. I felt plenty comfortable at 15-16% though.
  • Only the stupid Brits use stones
  • I likes lifting heavier stuff and getting a bigger frame a lot
  • 90s weak norwegian men shoot 890s strong grunts in the face with their trusty AG-3 machine gun from the army, kept at home. We'll only get off one shot before our shoulders are smashed by the recoil though
  • Rip owes me a suit, I bought a tight one this spring that no longer suits me (heh) no matter how low BF % I get

Maybe. Recovery and injury is a weird thing. Not saying that your form wasn't the primary reason for it, but not carrying enough BF can contribute to poor recovery, especially from injuries.

I readily admit that this is a poor time to start bulking and then cutting since it's already January. But you can just eat at maintenance and lift heavy things and see where it gets you. This RFL nonsense has got to stop.

I don't count a single calorie. I just live by these words of wisdom that I found in strossen's (?) book "super squats": Drink your two liters of milk a day and if you find yourself getting fat just eat less.

i imagine getting to a final X bodyweight@Y bodyfat goal is infinitely easier if you allow yourself a single time period of being well above your goal in both numbers instead of trying to maintain a lowish bodyfat for the duration. no pain, no gain, etc.

*************** NUB ALERT ***************

THIS IS A SS LOG, NO SILLY CUTTING STUFF HERE

*************** NUB ALERT ***************

lol **** me. Alright you've convinced me guys, no silly RFL. When I started counting the months it would have been pretty ridiculous, like 2 months of no strength gains, then 2 months of SS before summer (which starts mid-June here) so yeah.

I'll get some new jeans and t-shirts, "10s FatWeak" sounds good.

ive seen good results following lyles recommendation -
get down to 10% bf then bulk to 15%. then do it over again

it allows u to maintain year round prettiness while still getting a solid 20+ weeks straight of consistent bulking. the key is not losing lbm on fat loss diets... which is pretty much guaranteed on an aggressive RFL.

Soulman, it sounds like you want the cut up look (eg: Brad Pitt in Fight Club). Before SS, I used to do higher reps with free weights (sets of 10) and lots of bodyweight exercises (3 sets to failure for pullups/chinups/dips) + cables for isolation exercises. This made me look bigger and cut.

I do SS now so my weight has gone up and my legs+back are stronger than ever. However, my body definitely looked more cut on my old program. Now I am starting to get a little belly, I look less toned, and am not as veiny as before.

Before people start flaming this post, I think SS is an excellent program for novices to get bigger and stronger. But it sounds like Soulman here is desperate to get that cut look for the beach this summer and this RFL diet sounds crazy.

It's ok if max strength gains is not your ultimate goal. Personally I'd rather look like a Abercrombie model than Mark Rippetoe.

Yeah that's probably the cutting method I'll follow once I finish SS, re: set a decent caloric deficit and work out less. Once I cut later this year I won't ever go back up to 22-23% or wherever I end up.

Press
3x5x51 (112 lbs)

Microloading ftw.

Squat
2x5x100 (220 lbs)

Great success! Only not. Got a neck kink from doing the press, and my biceps injury thingy flared up after the first squat set. I decided to do the second set anyway, finished it ok but arms hurt pretty bad afterwards. No wai I could do a third set with the neck/arms.

Intended to do chins as well, tried one rep and canned it.

I'm pleased with the press moving up again and finally squatting double plates, but the arm thing is bothering me. I think my elbow/grip is ok, but I'll film next time to get feedback...hopefully the two day break will suffice to recover.

God of War
6x1 hour of intense gameplay (broken up into 1- and 2-hour parts)

Pretty hardcore, my left hand especially got a really nice burn from all the crazy button mashing. Feel pretty sore today, almost like my left hand is inflamed. Guess that's common for newbs. Feel pretty badass though, kicked the ass of like 100 enemies (literally) in one spot, it was pretty sweet.

Skipping the workout today, still pretty sore. Also I have a fever brewing but I could fight through that.
