saw,

If you don't understand why being too lazy to scroll around in the three sub-forums you probably frequent is shame-worthy, then I can't explain it to you.

I'm too bored to not aspy this up. So here goes.

Subscription pro/cons
  • 1 click for all non-new threads you're interested in
  • hides new threads you may be interested in
No-sub pro/cons
  • See all threads, catch new ones you may be interested in
  • N clicks + scrolling for non-new threads you're interested in

So it's clearly a use case thing, but I'd argue most people are checking old threads the vast majority of the time, so under that umbrella, subscription method is objectively better.

Additionally, the two methods are not mutually exclusive. So even if you want to check for new threads a lot, you can still do that. It literally does not make sense to not use subscriptions if you just want to check old threads.

EDIT: An important point I forgot: the frequency of old updates vs new threads. It's not even close. You're just an idiot if you're looking for new threads at the same rate as you are checking updates to old ones.

Dimsun. I usually have around 275 on workout days. Had 350 once and saw my lawnmower go into orbit. 400+ is ridiculous.

When riding, do you take it all pre? Any maintenance intake?

Surprised you got angry. I always felt like caffeine was a mood elevator.

For those who don't follow my action packed log, here is an fyi...

Diagnose my pain! I've considered asking someone who has spent the majority of their adult life studying such inconveniences, but thought instead I would ask about it on an internet forum.

Findings
There is straightening of the normal cervical lordosis but no fracture or dislocatin detected.

Mildly increased signal is noted betweenthe tips of the C6 and the C7 spinous processes, possibly due to a low grade sprain injury of the interspinous ligament or possibly a vascular in nature.

Mild intervertebral degenerative changes at C5/C6 and C6/C7 with a diffuse disc bluges, more pronounced posteriorly and marginal and unconvertebral osteophyte formation combining with mild facet join arthropathy to cause moderate narrowing of the left C6 neural exit foramen and severe narrowing of the left C7 neural exit foramen.

Mild narrowing of the right C7 neural exit foramen.

No abnormal cord signal detected. The craniocervical junction is within normal limits.

Multiple bilateral likely perineural cysts noted in the upper thoracic spine, of doubtful clinical significance.

Conclusion
No fracture, dislocation or bony destruction detected.

Mild oedema between the tips of the C6 and C7 spinous processes possibly due to low-grade ligamentous sprain injury, possibly vascular.

Intervertebral degenerative changes and diffuse disc bluges combine with mild facet joint arthropathy at C5/C6 and C6/C7 to cause severe narrowing of the left C7 neural exit foramen and moderate narrowing of the left C6 neural exit foramen.

My expert opinion:

Doesn't sound so bad? The potential low-grade ligament sprain is probably what is causing most of the pain(?) and I guess ligaments will get better.

The disc bulges causing narrowing of the neural exit foramen is probably what is causing the occasional pain\burning\tingling down my arm (not that I know what a neural exit foramen is... but I assume it's where the nerve exits the spine?)... not sure how good they are at getting better. Pretty bad based on what most people say?

And people wonder why I say I'd rather die than be poor.

Hrmmm... Does wealth decrease incidence of sporting related injuries?

Yes.

Maybe that's true in the US, but I doubt it is as applicable in Australia. What do you define as being poor btw?
09-07-2017 , 08:31 AM
I think it's probably true in Australia too... but I think thremp might be conflating correlation and causation.

Not having enough money to purchase medical care that you want.
09-07-2017 , 08:41 AM
I can see how wealth would help in some regards as obviously having access to funds would enable people to access better medical care etc and also access to quality trainers but it's not like wealth gives you a cloak of invincibility or whatever.

Unless you're Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark.

Well, so far an x ray and an mri has cost me* zero dollars (for the record conversion is approximately AUD$0 = USD$0), so I am indeed wealthy enough to pay for that.

The general practitioner has referred me to a specialist, I'm not sure how much that will cost, but I will let you know if I'm too poor for that.

* at least in a direct sense, we all know the true cost of socialism

I'm a little surprised they're sending you to a specialist for this, but when you were practically going blind*, they didn't feel you needed to see an ophthalmologist. I guess that's progress. Although I suspect you would have found a specialist significantly more helpful for your eye prob than you will for your back prob.

*I may be remembering some of the details of that incident incorrectly, in which case you should disregard.

Everyone making less than I do is a filthy lazy poor. Everyone making more than I do is a greedy rich *******.

AIOTT,

I think you just singlehandedly solved income inequality.

You are remember correctly, and I suspect you are correct about what a specialist is going to be able to do for my back.

I would take caffeine pills before a race. In longer races I would carry a sugar gel that also had some caffeine in it, although I don't remember how much. It's the last legal drug in cycling that really makes a difference.

UCI/USADA occasionally says they'll ban large doses. I guess we'll see.

They are also making rumblings about banning my thyroid meds.
