Different goals. Just know your choices and make a conscious choice after weighing the tradeoffs.
That's basically what I've been doing. With all my exercise, my TDEE is probably around 2700, and I've just been eating whatever I want. However, cutting at 2400 is not the hardest thing in the world and not a big sacrifice to me. So I may as well be on top of nutrition (purely in terms of cals in and cals out)
Run
8k tempo run

4k tempo @ 4:49

I half read Jack Daniels running book and I loved it. It gives you the framework on how to build your own program. This run was basically from it, along with the tempo pace. My goal was 4:49 and I got it spot on. I am assuming my VDOT is 43 for now.
33km week done, same coming up next week!
