Almost, I'll probably finish them up today. My bigger problem is I still have a day of dirty rice left. Between the sodium in the creole seasoning and the starchy rice, I'm retaining water like a sponge. Oh well, I'll drop the water eventually.

What has helped me a ton is keeping track of what hasn't worked, and then avoiding those things like the plague.

I'm lucky that sodium doesn't seem to affect me too much. I'm unlucky that tasty rice dishes and pretzels (and a gazillion other things) call out to me in the middle of the night when I don't have anything that even remotely resembles willpower.

Yes, good idea. Dirty rice is definitely going on the 'forbidden foods' list, at least for several months. I think I can afford to eat a pretzel now and then, just need to buy a smaller bag.

Weekly weigh-in 10/27 215.4 lbs, a loss of 1.4 lbs for the week and 16.6 lbs total since 9/8 (7 weeks). It's 4 weeks (and 2 days) until Thanksgiving, I hope to lose at least 6 pounds between now and then. I've got my daily morning walks up to 5+ miles, just need to tighten up the diet a bit and I should be OK.

Thanks. Like yourself, I've been crunching some numbers, and I don't have a lot of wiggle room.

My BMR is down to ~1840, so eating at 1500 calories/day is only going to result in one pound lost every 10 days. I've been walking ~5.25 miles/90 minutes the last few days, and my best estimate from various sources is that will burn around 650 cals, give or take a few. Subtract the 115 cals I would burn by sitting on my rear gives me a net increase of ~ +535 calories burned.

Hopefully I'm burning enough extra calories around the house to get my TDEE up to at least 2500. At 2500 I can theoretically lose 2 pounds a week.

Great work in here. Have you thought about some form of exercise that you would enjoy? Not having wiggle room is a disaster waiting to happen in the long run once you get to your ideal weight. There are so many options now, you just need to pick something you like. A bootcamp style class 3 times a week, where you just show up, do the work, and leave without having to think, would give you ~300 extra calories a day plus all the other benefits.

At the moment, the 5+ mile walk each morning is working out great. I enjoy the walking, I put my iPod on and zone out for 90 minutes or so. I hope to start walking a bit more as I get my stamina up and my weight down. I used to bowl regularly, but my hip was giving me problems, so I quit 2 years ago. I try to do some resistance training every 4 days.

Thanks. Long term compliance? Too early to tell. I haven't done too well in the past. Not thinking about it too much as I still have a long way to go. I think the longer this process takes, the better off I'll be. It's a bit different this time, as I have to generate enough activity to keep my TDEE up. Before, I had a fairly active job and never had to do a lot of extra exercise to lose the weight.
Nowadays walking is a must, and every day I walk my 5 to 6 miles I have plenty of time to dwell on how much effort it takes to burn extra, unnecessary calories
