Weighed in this morning (Tuesday 9/15) at 224.2, which is a loss of 7.8 lbs. for my first week. Quite pleased with the results.

I'm feeling great! I had a bit of a headache/sore throat last night, but I think that was due to the change in weather. I live in Tucson, Az. and it's been one of the hottest summers on record. It still reaches triple digits in the day, but in the morning when I walk it's been around 70 degrees. I also suffer from allergies, so that could be a factor as well. Legs are a bit sore in the mornings, but that's to be expected.

Richie, once you are done with the honeymoon period of your diet, here is something that may be helpful:

Thanks guys, it's important (for me) to get off to a good start. I'm highly motivated for the time being, but undoubtedly that will level off in a few weeks.

The trick, I think, is to be aware of it so you are not surprised and have a plan that the cold version of you will accept.

Oh, and if you come up with a plan for cold-Richie, let me know.

Not sure how I'm gonna deal with cold-Brian. He is a lazy bastard who loves his fried chicken.

You'll be at your target weight way before me, so you'll have to explain the process to me Funny, I quit smoking almost 14 years ago (after smoking for 27) and I would never think of giving myself a pack of cigarettes to smoke as a reward. Yet, that's exactly what I do after dropping weight, I give myself tons of crappy food to eat. Lunacy

BTW, what is your target weight?

I don't have one yet.

I have the same sorts of dreams about what I can eventually eat.

I don't much care for the term "target weight". I know it's natural to have one and I do think you should have a goal in mind, but you need to understand that the dietary changes that are going to get you to that goal weight are going to need to be maintained for the rest of your life in order to not put all the weight right back on. Target implies that once you hit it there's a fanfare and you win a prize.

You need to internalize that the way you're eating right now isn't suffering and it's just a way of life. It's how normal non-overweight people eat all of the time without thinking much about it. You need to be those people.

Well, the prize is that you no longer need to be in a deficit. Pretty decent prize, I think.

It's just not how it works in practice. The deficit has to grow for weight loss to continue at the same rate. For most it asymptotically approaches a weight settling point. Maybe you get to eat a couple hundred more calories at the end but it's not enough to matter, not mentioning that metabolism deteriorates with age.

A couple hundred more calories sounds absolutely wonderful right now. I'm at a pretty hefty deficit though.

I'm pretty sure that if Richie and I had to fight over a slice of (magical no weight gain) pizza right now it would be the fight of the century.

You can have the pizza, I want the bowl of buttered popcorn Hmm, probably not a good idea for me to talk about junk food in a weight loss thread.

Air popped popcorn with a measured amount of butter seems like a completely reasonable (and satiating) snack option.

Orville Redenbacher smart pop isn't so bad

I have an air popper and that's definitely the lowest caloric option. But, portion control is not my strong suit, and I'm a bit of a salt addict, so I'll have to lay off the popcorn for now.
Brian, I've had smart pop before, it's not too bad.

I've quit eating a lot of pizza. I think I've ordered delivery/takeout only 3 or 4 times in the last 2 years. I actually got sick from my last pizza a few months back.

I was having a few headaches and I think it was due to the fact I was trying to cut down my salt intake. So I've been pulling out the salt shaker the past two days, and it seems to have worked.

Tuna actually tastes pretty good when you're really hungry
