I am going in untrained and shooting for 24min. Are you ******ed? The race is this Thursday. Yeah 12min mile felt awful today but it had to be the incline.

For someone that doesn't even do cardio 2 miles in a little under 16 minutes is very respectable IMO. I doubt I could do it right now.

Agree w/ this, but I think that metabolic locotarding does have at least cardio component. However, I don't think it really transfers to distance running.

I haven't done high volume in a while. Almost zero cardio also.

What would be a reasonable 5k, Snitch? I am 38. Sub20 min with zero training?

Ridiculous. I will be very happy to hit 25min. 28+ min and I go back to doing cardio.

In some runner thread here in the forum, some runners said 24min 5k after 1year is solid for a couch potato. One facking year man!!

It also depends on the terrain of the 5k. Lots of hills can be a killer and makes 25 mins a lot more respectable.

Solid day today

Treadmill
1.25 miles 10:00
60s rest at 3mph
1.0 miles at 1.0deg incline 7:30
60s rest at 3mph
1.0 miles at 1.0deg incline 8:34

Saw a study that concluded 1deg incline on treadmill simulates real roads.

Rest day tomorrow. Most likely no more lifting til after race day.

I'm just funnin', bro. Yep, 25 min will be very respectable.

I was just poking at your 12 min mile and sore ankles being reminiscent of kc doing the "I'm going to do a 5k fun run" ...three days later "I'm injured from running".

Going to imagine I get to stomp your face at the finish line. That's going to be one of my biggest regrets of all, that we got old and never got in a boxing ring. I just wake up with this urge to punch your red Aussie head nonstop.

When Hohm Ko'd Rousey, I temporarily flashed to loco v snitch, and the Aussie hit the floor. It was sweet.

Please let me know next time you're in my hemisphere, we can make this happen. We're not too old yet. Don't stop dreaming.

Gotta agree with Loco here. I trained for a 5k for like 8 months and ran 7:23 pace which is 22:56. I'm a tall (6'7") but also athlete in college so probably harder for the average person to do this.

Loco is right, we know this. It's more fun to bust his balls though. Also I'd throw some money down on snitch since I know deep down, loco doesn't have the heart or determination to prepare or win a boxing match.

Treadmill
5k run @1deg incline 27:44

Tough. No way I am chopping 2min off that. I had no endorphins today, most likely overtraining and running out. Walk tomorrow. Rest Wednesday. Replenish endorphins, maybe get some speed/craze.

Gotta start prepping my music playlist. Has to start medium and then keep building up til my earphones blow the fack up at minute 23:00.

I don't know what's worse, the ankle pain or the lack of cardiovascular health. Seems 50/50. But the 5k will get run.

Local bookies have me at $1.10. You might get a better price in panama though.

#hardtruths #kcrunning

Hopefully they measure the course a bit short (I doubt the ability of any American to measure 5km accurately tbh).

Edit: just a side note... You actually need to chop 2:45 of that treadmill time.

5k turkey trot 25:41
Splits
Mile1: 7:44
Mile2: 8:37
Mile3: 8:10

I got there late but luckily the race hadn't started. However I wasn't able to get my position with the 8min/mile pacers. I was like 15 feet behind them. It was 15 feet of donks from hell. Fat. Old. Young. And all slow. So I started the race and had to weave around for the first half mile.

Maprun signaled me that my first mile was 7:44. Whoa!! A bit too fast even though I was weaving through the crowd.

2nd mile I purposefully slowed down, recalling Sunday's awful practice 5k. The scenery started changing here. One by one, fatties were getting left in the dust.

3rd mile
Very few fatties to be found here. The kids were being left in the dust. The chicks started getting hotter! A couple of really hot ones. My finishing song came on! I was like wtf, I am getting close to end!!! I sprinted the last 300 feet. It was a joke, way too easy.

Overall, enjoyed the experience. I really think weaving around fatties slowed me down but maybe this is what left gas in the tank and was able to sprint the last 300feet.

Honestly I think if there was a hot girl at 7:30 pace I could keep up. The Sunday run combined with mapmyrun telling me my first mile was 7:44, really slowed me down. I got scared and slowed down too much for the second mile.

Oh well, next time I know for sure to be in the 7:00 and 8:00 pace crowd. Maybe even faster. And don't turn on mapmyrun. Just let music and hot chicks pace me.

I am guessing hot chicks optimize in the 6:45 to 8:30 pace. Slower than that, too fat. Faster, body too flat.

Congrats, locobro!

I'm going to see If I can keep improving my 5K time every time I run one. Gonna try for once a week. Will probably be some skipped weeks in there.

I'm way too fat for anything near 30 minutes... yet another reason to shed some weight. You've inspired me to embrace the cardionut deep inside my flabby body.

Great job!
