Don't know how I missed your log for a couple of weeks, but condolences for your brother.

Turkey trot 5k 20:00

Dumpster grease fire. Lady told me 7:30 and it actually started 7:15. Then coordinator said no worries we will use chip time. I finished and then he said sorry, since you were late it did not catch you at the start. Lol. But they felt bad and said they would take my watch time. ReLol.

Its still a nice quality workout, I only been running about 15 miles a week, so I been throwing fitness levels in the drain. Conditions were not good either. It was 40 degrees but altitude, climbing, and passing a few hundred stragglers.

If you remember, I ran this two years ago in 24:00 but I was racing versus 10 year olds at the finish. This time I can say that no one under10 was faster. So that's good. Unfortunately 1 Female this year was slightly faster and 1 55 year old male. They came in 20 seconds faster. Zero percent chance I would have not beat them if started with them. Zero. So I am disappointed with the results, but there is always next year. And its motivating me to start running seriously again instead of wasting away fitness, dicking around 15 miles a week.

What kind of fancy turkey trot are running where they chip you? I could be way off here, but I assumed that those things were a lot more casual. Is chipping just standard now?

Also when does your training for Chicago start? Given how relatively untrained you are, sub 3hrs should be within reach.

This Turkey trot is competitive, winner was in 16s. A lot of the high school runners come out and they give trophies.

Chicago is so far away, I should be training for a spring race instead. But I got a lot of work going on, so just chilling losing gains.

Went to my first michelin starred Mexican restaurant, it was in NY. It was fantastic. As suspected, the best Mexican food in the USA is in California, Chicago, and new York. Texas does not belong, mainly because the fatty white southerners bastardized it.

This was the crown jewel

Terrible pic but this is fall off the bone tender pork ribs in guajilla with homemade fresh tortillas. Even the rice was facking delicious and erryone knows my thoughts on rice.

Very highly recommended if you in New York.

Mexican Michelin star for about 30-$40 per person. Do want, do approve.

You got any recs? I'm in Chicago about once a year and all the Mexican food I've had has been pretty disappointing. Except for the Rick Bayless place I went to. But ain't nobody getting out of there for $12.

Re: Realities of Natty Training: Loco vs Kipchoge at the Berlin Marathon

I've eaten at about half of these, and I would consider it a pretty good list. https://chicago.eater.com/maps/best-...ts-chicago-map Although I'd skip Lena Brava for a different Bayless place - Frontera or Topolabampo imo.

Carnitas Uruapan (mentioned on the list) in Pilsen is a good bet. Also in that neighborhood: Birrieria Reyes is good too. My Mexican friends really like Canton Regio. There's also a couple of fun spots near there to drink - Maria's and Moody Tongue. A personal fav of mine is also in Pilsen, Duseks (1*, not Mexican.) K now I want to go get some Mexican food now even though I've had it two days in a row.

ETA: citanul is also from Chicago and may have good/better recs, I know he likes good food too. And after all, I am just a philistine suburbanite who probably just drinks alone on the floor.

Re: Realities of Natty Training: Loco vs Kipchoge at the Berlin Marathon

dt,

That's a good list.

I might be overly hypebeast susceptible, but I like Zaragoza a lot. Their salsa, made to order tortillas, and vegetarian (vegan?) consomme give them some extra points, especially in my married-to-pescatarian world.

I was not impressed by my one trip to Mi Tocaya. Which was double sad because I thought her food at Cantina 1910 was very good though less inventive. Most of my problems with Mi Tocaya were service related, though.

I also really liked Lena Brava and don't know if I've seen Mexican seafood done as well in Chicago elsewhere. I think there's probably more competition now in the Frontera edge of things than here. And Topolo is a totally different animal.

Basically everyplace on that list is a winner, though, agreed.

DT should come to the Wilco for kids thing at Thalia hall on Sunday and then brunch at Duseks. Why drink floor pappy when you could have me buy brunch cocktails instead?

Cit, I haven't tried Zaragoza! I "need to" I guess!

Brunch cocktail with kids rain-check for our bidecadal meetup, we have a baptism to attend. I also approve of communicating via loco's log rather than PMs.

Thanks for the recs.

Much like downton, I also spend most of my time in Chicago in the suburbs as that's where the wife's family is. But I when I go for work, which I'll probably have to do next year, I'll stay in the city and check out at least one of these.

Will post in loco's log then for the most recent restaurant info.

Just finished the Rogan podcast with David Goggins from last week. What a badass.

Talked about where he stays for HR during his runs and made me think of you.

You should do some ultra stuff like him or Cam Hanes. Put that heart of yours to a real test.
