I hope you'll stick with it. This much progress in your first year, I have to think you'd take these hard lessons and smoke records if you stick with it another year. You certainly won't fail to qualify if you give yourself another shot.

These. You're being way too hard on yourself - hopefully you'll see that with some distance. 3:11:58 is pretty sick for a marathon debut! And duh you'll make mistakes your first go! Did your squat look awesome on the first try? Nope!

Loco,

are you really thinking that you didn't do excellent or is this kind of begging for compliments?

You did not so smart stuff when you landed in Germany. I bet that Kipchoge's premarathon diet didn't include such amount of Bratwurst with junk. I can only SMH at "I fell in the shower because I drunk too much the evening before".

But you run an absolutely great time. You are faster at marathon distance than I am at 5 km distance. You totally deserve the Boston run. You trained very consistently before you flew to Germany. You are very inspiring with your training and how you approach this stuff. This what you call "the heart" totally pulls me and many other people in.

Loco in the marathon

Wow, awesome performance!

You should decide if you hate running or not. It kinda seems like you don't. So you should run Boston.

Sweet tigres kit.

Let the fact I share your disappointment with yourself fuel a PR in Boston this April.

100%

Not only would it get our boi into the marathon, it would inspire some of the more self-centered among us to contribute to his and a larger charitable cause

Re: Realities of Natty Training: Loco vs Kipchoge at the Berlin Marathon

Congratz loco on your marathon finish, especially the fact that you managed to do a negative split!
Good to see some self awareness finally - a few better choices earlier on and you'd probably broken 3:10. Still great time considering it was only your second marathon, few weeks after your first.

As someone said, take some time to decide if you love running or not and don't waste time or money if you don't.

Re: buying into Boston. I think loco meant something like this but seems that option is gone.
