good job on the long run! rounding into race form right on schedule.

what's the plan...a couple of more long ones, then tapering into the race?

sounds like you have a good plan with the gels. the most I've ever taken was two on a long run, and three in a race. but I have a sensitive stomach. I've run with some guys that took gels like every few miles. do not mix your gel with sports drink, (recipe for disaster) wash it down with a good drink of water. I prefer cliff shot gels(never had a problem) over gu and stinger which have bothered my stomach.

I've got another long run next week, then a race week after that, then an easy long run and then taper two weeks.

For the race I am either going to do a balls out half marathon 1:30-1:31 or a 3:30 full marathon. I need to be in the first wave at Berlin or else I am going to be put with the fatties and no way I dodge 25000 fatties and even dream of hitting 3:11. I think my running tour operator has my back but if I remember my online poker days correctly, Germans are big time nits. They are going to say oh this is your first marathon, you in the last wave bro. To be in the first wave I need 3:30 marathon in the books. So obviously that's no problem but at three weeks out it's really pushing it. Hopefully she confirms I am in the first wave and I avoid having to do a 26.2 mile training run.

According to Polar, my running index indicates I am a 2:40 marathoner. LOL. That's how out of whack I still am, coming from a lifting and 1mile training background.

Yes, loco, Germans are big time nits. They also fix things.

sounds a bit aggressive to me...the half marathon option sounds like the better plan. you will be feeling that marathon on race day.

don't worry about the crowds, generally not that big of a deal once you get past a couple of miles or so. might even help keep some of that race day adrenalin in check early on.

It shouldn't matter what group they stick you in. Bolded is not an option.

I think it definitely matters. I am going to have to pass thousands and not just that, the pacers are long gone. The donk wave goes off like 25 minutes after the beginning wave. Are there pacers in the donk wave?

I don't how this stuff works but going off with my people seems like a must if I want to hit 3:11. There would so many options to tag along to if I am with my people.

People over taper. I am tapering 10 days, hanson method style.

I agree that it matters. I just think running two marathons in 3 weeks is insane.

If your choice is that or getting stuck with the donks and the fats, then just accept the latter. Yeah, your time will be worse, but there are always other marathons.

I like this Melkerson guy. He pulls no punches. Which is why I'm surprised loco hasn't yet made an empty challenge and then run and claimed it was training for his next marathon.

According to this discussion you can only officially get a better starting block with a marathon time, but not with a half-marathon one:
https://forum.runnersworld.de/forum/...erlin-Marathon

They go on to say that some people will let you move to a different block if you show proof of HM time when you pick up your number and stuff, but some people won’t. Seems to depend on how German the person you talk to is

One person claims to have run <3:10 from the last starting block.

If you haven‘t registered your time yet, some people claim that you don’t have to show proof for having run it and the website asks people to be honest, doing that is still an option, telling them you PB ist 3:14 or something seems to be your best option.

For some reason I can‘t edit the last post. Meant to type: „provided that is still an option...“

Makes sense to check the starting block with your travel agency that got you into the race

In any case, don’t run a full marathon in training

Is there really a "fatties" group in a marathon?

check the race web site, faq section, seems like there might be several ways around this. saw something in there about being honest with your time. sounds like they don't check. try leaning on your trip organizer as well.

yes there are pacers back there...just not the ones you're looking for.

as far as pacers go...I wouldn't over rely on them, they can be uneven in their pacing just like any body else.

oops saw german guy already addressed most of this

lol...no, just slower runners at the back of the pack.

although I have seen some rather large folks and older people that move very well.

8/11 W8D6 Road to Berlin
Easy run 4 miles 32:00

Ouch, almost aborted. ITB band pain was 7/10, knee feeling wonky. Day after a real long run needs to be off. I am reinventing the wheel.

8/14 W9D1 Road to Berlin
AM
6 miles 48:00

Feeling way better, hardly any pain

PM
8 miles 58:10

1 mile 8:17
2 miles 13:38
Jog 3:00
2 miles 13:20
Jog 3:00
2 miles 12:54
Easy .5 miles

I am running with the Hoka One One's again. They feel like moon boots but I think they might help with the ITB band issue. I am also running with compression socks, an ITB compression band on my right thigh, and a toe separator for the bunion. Lol. Old man running.

Re: holliday

You obviously can't be really fat, but you can be pretty solid and still run the marathon if you use a lot all this carb gels while running.

It‘s been a while for me, but the problem with running a marathon is not about not getting enough energy, but that your joints, ligaments and muscles need to get used to the constant and seemingly endless beating/stress they get from hitting the pavement again and again.

I have a super long run coming next week, I will know more what's going to happen. I am usually good to go while running, everything starts numbing out at the end.

And I have never felt disoriented from brain running out of glycogen. What I think I have felt multiple times, is my muscles running out of glycogen. I just don't think I have elite stores because my body is not really trained for more than 80 minutes. I have elite lung capacity, fantastic recovery, and obviously the heart of lion.

Relative to my strengths, muscle glycogen is definitely my weakness. I am definitely hitting the wall and there is not much I can do about it now. I wish I had 3 more fasted long runs under my belt.

Looks fat, my Chihuahua was lean and fast as fack. I miss him so much. He got old and is slowing down, with my ex's brother now. I offered a dime for him but my ex would not relent, she wanted 2k. She owes me 15k and said I couldn't take it off the debt. I passed but did see him one last time,

But recently I got a puppy, meet baebee
