Does seem like a really good time given that mileage. Hope the legs are healing up quickly! What sort of time was the Tanda Race Predictor showing for your mileage and pacing?

Thanks guys, it was a long time coming to knock out some of these goals.

Mostly recovered today, ran a couple of miles yesterday with slight calf pain on the nonproblem leg. On Tuesday I did upperbody and today planning to hit a light lowerbody session.

It was probably my favorite marathon of all time. It started off with some Jay Z new york new york action followed by Sinatra. Then the national anthemn, followed by the gun. I was in the corral right behind the élites, so zero fatties around me. Actually, I was quite impressed by the physiques in the corral. If you may recall, in Berlín I was stuck in a corral with a bunch of skinnyfats that ran like zombies. IMO my physique was 1 out of 10000 in Berlín. Not in NY, quite a few guys had better upperbodies. And plenty had lowerbodies that made me look skinny (I came in at a hefty 155lbs, heavier than Berlin).

This was the view after the gun.
Spoiler:

Scene straight out of a film man, helicopters buzzing at the NY skyline so far away that it makes you question why do people run marathons.

First mile went pretty slow, I didn't want to expand energy passing others. It was also very steep up the verazzano bridge. I clocked in at 7:35 for the first mile and just took it from there. A bunch of 6:4x miles happened but my mile 7 I still hadnt not taken over the sub3 pacer group. The group was large and blocking most of the path. I decided to expand energy and leave them behind. It probably took me half a mile to pass that large group and that's probably where most of the difference in my 26.55 miles run comes from.

I ran the first half in 1:28:xx, pretty much perfection. Feeling great, too easy. Heart rate was at 147, so around marathon heart rate and where I wanted to be. I decided right there that at mile 16, where my family was waiting, I no longer wanted to see a single 149 on my watch. It was time to get into the 150s and stay there.

I saw my family at mile16, but unfortunately the first hiccup occurred. Forgot to pick up my caffeine gels with my gf. I was cranking out 6:35s by then and started looking for gatorade like crazy. I hadnt had calories since mile 11, I was looking forward to my gels. I never found gels the rest of the way.

I never made my move, at mile21 my quads were feeling really heavy and at mile22 my hamstring started cramping. Here I am slowing down, grinding hills
Spoiler:

I had cramped up pretty hard in Berlín and almost quit. Plan was to rev up to 160 average for the last 5k, and come in at 2:55. Instead mile 23 and 24 was mostly at 149. My headphones were also starting to signal low battery, so I disconnected them. Pretty disheartening here, the crowd got me through at 7:00 pace. But there is no way I was risk my BQ, I needed to lock in my sub3.

My sister said I stopped right here (she was following me on the app). Honestly I don't remember stopping, I did check my phone messages and saw that they were waiting for me again at mile 25.

I knew I had battery for one last long banger on my headphones. I went with Our Origin by Shapov and Van Buuren

It starts slow but it gets filthy and just keeps going and going. I parked up right away, I knew I could risk it now. The banging was so loud, I felt zero hamstring pain.

Spoiler:

No more grinding, I was now flying at 6:20 pace. Saw my family again at mile 25. Heart rate only got to 154 and was still blasting through at 6:20pace.

I started waving and pointing Kipchoge style and came in all by lonesome to the finish line, no one near me. All left in the dust.
Spoiler:

Only regret is that I couldn't stick to my plan. I was still seeing 149 heart rate by mile 20. But with the lack of gels, heavy quads, cramping ham, and no headphones; I was never able to truly race until mile25. Leaves me unsatisfied to not leave it all out there.

Wicked job. Great to see you nail your goal time despite the setbacks along the way with the calf strains.

Congrats again. Nice TR.

Left delt is really popping in that mile 22 shot. Probably just a weird angle.

I can't tell from the photo, but did you wear the chest strap? I think I remember that you said you might.

11/25 Turkey Day Trot
5k 18:20 (PR)
70F with 99% humidity

Confused about my heart rate data. Last couple of months rpe and heart rate have not matched. It must be the new watch.

Gonna splurge and get a chest strap and a stryd foot pod. I am an engineer, it must all make sense.

Here I had a nice heart rate graph but it slowly créeped up to 180. WTF, my max is 176. Either max heart rate expands in heat and humidity or my watch is not right.

Also pretty emberrassing situation with my family. Made them wait to pick up my award and then organizers said I didn't have one. I was on tilt and asked who got first in my age group? They said 18:34. I crushed that guy, I want my award. I am sorry sir, you are not on the list.

So took off, emberrassed loser in front of my family. Then I found out my second overall masters had trumped my first place age group and that was at the award tent. Donk alert. Doesnt matter, never picked it up either. I want 1st age group, 1st masters, 1st overall. This was 1st age group, 2nd masters, 15/738 overall (got crushed by cross country HS and college track). Too slow. Back to the drawing board. Or at least 1st Masters, I am only 44. WTF. This is the third time I take 2nd Masters.

This award situation seems kind of ****ed up. So you actually were first in age group but because you were second in Masters, they gave someone else a first in age group award when they weren't actually first in their age group? Seriously? I can't tell if that is what happened or they just made a mistake.

Also, what was the age and time of the guy who beat you in Masters?

I am assuming that's normal. Just imagine when I win First Overall. Should I get 1st Overall award, 1st Masters award, AND first age group award?!!!

I would think they would at least cut out the age group award, especially if it's the same as the other awards.

Anyways they called my sister to pick up my award. Dumb, already made me look like a loser, waiting in line to get rejected. Don't even want that chump award. I want cash or gift certificate, it's time to be semipro not bullshiet hobbyjogger.

Looks like I hit 15 miles the week after the marathon, then 26, 28, and 26.

Kinda of low, motivation weak and issues with left calf after the marathon.

18 weeks out from Boston. Don't know what plan is. Rather run sub5 mile than race Boston. We will see, definitely not running sub5 min mile this year. I lost too much fitness after the injury on Oct9 and then the taper following that. The running mileage was 10 for week ending Oct17, 30, 25, 52, 15, 26, 28, 26. So obviously after hitting 60 miles a week in September, I am going to bleed fitness like crazy.

Still though, that 18:20 5k in hot weather on turkeyday means I am not totally lost. Really wanted to run 40 miles this week to get back on track. But like I said earlier, some left calf issues.

We will see. Have been lifting 3x a week fullbody and that's going well. What can I say, 3x fullbody plus 25 miles running a week is health perfection. Can't complain too much.

Absolutely.

I'm not big on participation trophies.

I also like to keep it simple. If you meet the requirements of a certain group and you have the best time in that group. Then you get first in that group. I don't care how many other trophies you will win along with it.

Clearly I don't have a future in organizing fun runs.

Your fastest mile here is a 7min mile, one of them. I just ran 26 consecutive miles at 6:46 pace in NY. LolEV.

Decided not to race Boston. Gonna run it for fun at 8:00 to 9:00 mile pace.

Every marathon I have been wrecked for 4 weeks afterwards. After New York, I strained my other calf the next day.

I also got the Omicron (my girlfriend tested positive with the same symptoms). 7 days for her to recover. I tried to run 2 days after symptoms and aborted after 3 miles. I did run 3 days afterwards and it was a bit laborious but I was fine. No big deal, Omicron fake. Not getting boosted. I have said it before, will say it before. I should be compared to a professional athlete in the NFL or NBA. I have better fitness and just as lean. Those guys are up and running in less than 5 days. So am I.

I have not heard of a single professional athlete dying from Covid. Zero. When I make that ridiculous comment, someone mentions a roided up bodybuilder who died. Or a fat shot putter who died. Or a 5 hour marathoner. Lol.

Ramping up my training. May log, may not. My main A race is the 5th Ave Mile race in New York. Finally knock out this sub5 mile.

Yeah and I barely run that’s all you do bro. That’s like comparing myself to somebody who lifts once a week. Cardiobunny logic.
