Look, I am sick of this synthetic insulation bullsheit. Down is way better. They'll try to sell you on this "oh synthetic retains its insulation properties when wet and down doesn't." Csb why would I ever get it wet? That's what shells are for... With proper layering (merino wool base layers are the best thing ever) and an outer to break wind you could potentially wear this down to mid 30s, depending if you're moving around or not. Merino is $$$ but the best **** ever.
I find it amazing in 2020 we can't beat animals and prob never will... Down and Wool #1.
Patagonia is fine. It's kinda whatever, brand doesn't matter a ton. If he's trying to get props from the outdoorsy crowd, buy rab or something hipster.

never tried patagonia so i can not comment on it.
the yuppies here wear that along with their dress pants and dress shoes. the look is so off and just screams yuppie alert to me. instead, they should have invested in a nice over/top coat.
Some people like actually being warm in cold temps and are not focused on how kewl their coat looks.
Canada Goose is for serious warmth in nasty conditions.
But I'd just buy a big north face parka, and I have.
It completely changed my perspective of what walking outside in below 0 windchill could feel like. Turns out with the right **** it could be a pretty pleasant experience.
Really it's all about how much insulation (down), quality of insulation, design to prevent cold spots/warmth leaks.
