Agreed on the waste of money, but I don't think that workout particularly appealed to anyone Still fun to/compare to others!
Most of the strength work, I program for myself and do outside of the class. The gym's dedication to strength work is a little lacking for my particular goals, but that's ok, because the coaches are usually pretty cool about me doing my own thing.
Re: the open, I definitely get the appeal of seeing how you stack up to everyone else, I just am somewhat critical of doing high rep snatches in heavily fatigued states for time, but whatever, to each their own.
