How many pistols are you doing? I would be interested in a video. If you can do loads, have you thought of doing weighted pistols?

I'll try to remember to video them next time.

In the meantime, can I get a Loco bodyfat % estimate? Nudes below (pre-cut, so at my recent fattest.)

Spoiler:

My Dad got the results of a biopsy yesterday - he has an aggressive, fast growing variant of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Chemo starts next week.

I hope lockdown eases at some point soon so I can visit him.

I did hangboarding yesterday, followed by squats and deadlifts. I finished at after 1 .a.m., and it was below 0 Centigrade so my (unheated) shed was a bit nippy. So I didn't do as many sets as normal, getting 1 set of 10 squat (70 kgs) and 1 set of 8 deadlift (100 kgs).

The hangboarding was pretty good. Hopefully I can get a climb in today - the weather has not been co-operative so far.

My cut has gone well, I will probably revert to a proper amount of food next week.

Rough news, I hope that the treatments go well and you are able to see him.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. The chemo starts on Tuesday.

I played with kettlebells yesterday, doing 100 swings with a 24 kgs bell and 15 goblet squats with a 32 kgs bell.

I'm only in second place in my weekly Fitbit step challenge thing, so I'll probably do a long walk this evening to ensure I win. My average so fate this week has been below 15,000 a day, which is pretty low by my normal standards.

I did an hour's yoga today, and then climbed. I started off surprisingly on form. However, I got pumped quite fast and was falling off jugs by the end. It was good fun, if a little cold (around zero Celsius.) It was about a 70 minute session.

My last weigh-in was 143.5 pounds, which is line with the 7 day rolling average. So there's not been much movement there this week.

In a clear example of FPS, I've bought myself a continuous glucose monitor. I haven't put it on yet - I'll do it later this week. My plan is to tailor my diet and exercise to minimise glucose peaks. There is a very English, coffee, breakfast related video on it here:

I attempted hangboarding yesterday, but I was terrible. So I gave up on it, send also gave up on my planned upper body lifts, since did a 6 mile walk instead.

I will re-try today. It may be that I didn't give myself long enough to recover after climbing the day before.

Dad just had his first course of chemo, and apparently feels OK.

I re-did the hangboarding the next day, and was a lot better. I didn't break any records, but it was a solid session.

I did upper body lifts the day after hangboarding, (Wednesday) doing 3 sets of 6 on the bench (50kgs); and 3 sets of 6 overhead press (35 kgs).

On Thursday, I did an 8 mile walk. I ran for a small portion of it as an experiment. I've never really been a runner, I wanted to see if it could be fun. It wasn't too bad, although I only did about a mile as I'm easing myself into it.

It has rained constantly for a few days, preventing me from climbing. There was a brief respite on Friday, and amazingly I had a full hour over lunch with no meetings. So I got a quick climb in for an hour, although I was out of form.

Today, I did lower body lifts:
3 sets of 5, squat, 80 kgs
3 sets of 7, deadlift, 100 kgs
Farmers' walk, 60 kgs.

Hopefully I can climb tomorrow.

I did an hour of yoga in the morning.

I climbed for 90 minutes in the afternoon. It was really good - I sent a lot the stuff I tried. I did a lot of technique practice, focusing on footwork drills. I was super-pumped at the end.

I finished off with finger curls, working up to 60 kgs.

This evening, I will probably do a 6 to 8 mile walk.

It's been a while since I logged. I've been working out, but logging seems to be hard. My last few have been:

Friday
Miraculously, I had no meetings over lunch and it was sunny, if a little cold. I climbed. It was very good - I was on form.

Saturday
I went round my little brother's, who also has a climbing wall in his garden. It was a good session - my best on his wall for a while (or possibly ever).

Sunday
I did an hour's yoga and a reasonable length walk in the morning. I did upper body lifts in the evening

Bench 3 sets of 10; 50 kgs

OHP, 2 sets of 10; 35 kgs

Monday
I did leg day:

Squat 3 sets of 10; 80 kgs

Deadlift, 2 sets of 10; 100 kgs

It's been cold.

I did some hangboarding yesterday, building up to 15 seconds on the 15mm ledge in a repeater. (I did 15 seconds on, then rested a minute, for 5 reps.)

I then did 3 set of 5 finger curls, 60 kgs; and 2 sets of 10 bench press, 50 kgs.

He is no more, unfortunately - it got warmer.

Yesterday, I did leg day:
Squats, 3 sets of 10, 85 kgs.
Deadlift, 3 sets of 6, 110 kgs.

Today, I did an 8 mile walk in the morning. I put out the climbing mats for an afternoon climb, and it immediately started to rain. It had been a week since my last climb, so I cursed and then carried on regardless. It was a pretty good session.

1 February
Hangboarding. It started well, but I needed to cut it short. A friend is trying to become a Twitch streamer, and she beat me up at Dominion on her stream. I nearly got everything I wanted done - I skipped the weighted hangs.

After the stream, I was restless so I benched (50 kgs, 3 sets of 12) and OHPed (35 kgs, 3 sets of 5).

2 February
I got a quick climb in over lunch. Gravity was strong, unfortunately.

In other news, I got around to installing my 24 hour glucose monitor. It's normally pretty low, but I seem to react badly to white rice. Potatoes and pasta are fine.

3 February I hoped for a climb, but by lunch it started to pour with rain. So I made do with an hour of yoga, and testing my max reps unweighted pull ups (I got 17, which is I think a PB). I did an 8 mile walk in the evening.

4 February It was sunny! I got an hour's climb in over lunch. I wasn't massively on form, but I did get some hard stuff eventually. I didn't flash anything, though.

It looks like I won't actually win my weekly Monday to Friday step count challenge this week - I'm only on 63,000 so far, and I probably need around 20,000 more to grab the gold. It's doable, but I will probably not bother.

My weight went through a high patch recently, so I carried on with the diet. This was almost certainly water weight. The high point of the adverse stretch was 148 pounds. My last 5 weigh ins have been below 143, though so it looks like I can actually end the diet. (I'm on 2,200 calories compared to 2,600 maintenance.)

I did an 8 mile walk yesterday, then an hour of yoga, and finally leg day.
I squatted 80 kgs for 2 sets of 5, and then 1 set of 14 AMRAP at RPE 10.
I then deadlifted 110 kgs for 2 sets of 6.

Today, I did a shorter walk (probably 6 miles). In the evening, I did 3 sets of 5 goblet squats with the 32 kgs kettle bell, and then 100 swings with the 24 kgs. I then had to stop for an hour due to agreeing to go on a friend's Twitch stream. I will do half an hour's hangboarding to finish.

My weights and hang board are in my shed. It is damn cold in there at the moment (-4 centigrade.) I start each day with a cold shower, and that is kind of unpleasant when it is this cold as well.

I extended my hangboarding to add in some weighted pull ups. I got +40 kgs, which I'm happy with. (I lost 25 kgs in my diet a couple of years ago, and I could do pull ups when I was larger, but they were really hard. This result implies my pulling strength is at least equal to back then.)

Yesterday, I had an hour's climb over lunch. I was terrible - I got no hard routes. It's possible I was adversely affected by the cold (it was minus 3 Celsius); more likely it was just a bad day.

I got a 7 mile walk in the evening, when it got even colder.

Today, I did an hour of yoga before breakfast. I'll lift some weights this evening.

On Friday, I did a quick bench session. It minus 6 Celsius in my shed, so I kept it brief.

On Saturday, I did a 16 mile walk with lots of hills. I like these longer walks, as I can eat loads afterwards.

On Sunday, I had a decent climb, then did a 10 mile walk.

did a quick workout yesterday. Work was silly, so I started at around 1.30 a.m.

Bench 3 sets of 10, 50 kgs. I've been benching a lot recently, in terms of volume if not weight. The last time I checked, my 1-rep max was around 70 kgs (at a body weight of 65 kgs). I may test where it is now in the foreseeable future.

Kettlebell 100 swings, 24 kgs.

I checked my blood pressure yesterday. It was 110/65, which is not too shabby. My glucose monitoring experiment has ended. The conclusions were not particularly compelling:
  • I seem to react fairly badly to white rice, which gave the biggest spike I found over the 2 weeks.
  • I don't seem to react to a single potato, but two did cause a small spike
  • 16/8 intermittent fasting does seem to give lower peaks and troughs throughout the day
  • The impact of IF was small - average glucose of 5.5 mmol/litre compared to 5.6 without it.
  • I was generally in a pretty narrow range. Fasting value was typically 4.2 to 4.4 mmol/litre, which is good.
  • Over the 14 days, I had one reading which may have been in the pre-diabetic range - 2 hours after eating I was at 7.5 (the pre-diabetic threshold is 7). After 2.5 hours, I as at about 5, so this seems to have been an outlier. This was after the rice..
