I'm sorry about your dad. I hope it's not that serious.

Thanks everyone.

We're still waiting to hear the results of the key test. The doctors seem pessimistic - he's had symptoms for a couple of years, and was due to have the test in any case later this week.

Dad had the key test this morning. I thought he had it earlier, but it actually seemed to be today. I don't know how long we'll need to wait to get the result.

I got a 45 minute climb in over lunch. It went reasonably well. I did:
  1. Warm up climbs on jugs
  2. Heel hook practice
  3. Pogo practice
  4. One foot off wall practice
  5. Campus (no foots on wall)
  6. Static practice (move like a robot)

Dad has been released from hospital. I think it is cancer, but a less lethal form than the doctors initially thought.

Thursday was upper body day (hangboardind, bench, dips and OHP.) It was pretty mediocre.

Friday turned into a 15 mile walk after work. I was a Fitbit step challenge, and I decided to win it. (The challenge is Monday to Friday - I got just over 100,000, second place was just below.,)

My little brother came around today, and we climbed. It was fun. We did around a 20 mile walk afterwards.

My logging here has been poor, although I've remained reasonably active.

Sunday Medium sized walk, around 12 miles. I was slightly time constrained so couldn't do further.

Monday Climb over lunch. This was pretty poor - I was out of form.

Tuesday A evening walk of around 10 miles.

Wednesday Leg day. Many pistols, squatted 80 kgs for 2 sets of 10; deadlifted 100 kgs for 2 sets of 10. My body weight was 64 kgs in the morning.

I seem to be regularly be in a Fitbit Monday to Friday step challenge. I occasionally make an effort to win it - I did last week, with just over 100,000 total for the 5 days. I am unlikely to win it this week - I'm only in 3rd, and I have just over 50,000 for the three days so far.

I need to self isolate for a bit. I had a Covid test on Thursday in preparation for an operation this Tuesday. I need to isolate until the operation.

I climbed for an hour in my garden. It was very good - I was in form. I got a heel hook on a tiny hold, going from a small crimp. It's a move I have tried many times before, and the first time it has worked.

I warmed down with finger curls.

It was nice and sunny, but only around 5 centigrade

I did an hour of yoga before lunch.

In the evening, I did upper body lifts.

I started off with hangboarding. This was pretty good - my finger strength was decent.

I then benched 55 kgs for 2 sets of 10.
I did loads of dips.
I did weighted pull ups, getting plus 22.5 kgs.
I finished up with military press, doing 35 kgs for 2 sets of 10.

I did leg day yesterday.

I had heart surgery this morning. I am not dead, which is good . The recommendation is two weeks off vigorous exercise.

^Thanks everyone.

I have felt fine post surgery. My release letter said I could "start to mobilise" 4 days post operation, which was today. Stairs are now allowed as well.

So I did two short walks with a couple of small hills, ending up on 19,000 steps.

It is still another week before I am allowed to exercise, which will be fun. Hopefully it will be dry, so I can climb.

^It is surgery I have wanted since my bend. It should make diving a lot safer.

The surgeon put a cocktail umbrella in my groin, and manipulated it to the hole in my heart. He opened it, and once flesh grows over the device, I will be fixed.

Thanks Rich.

I did more walks today and on Sunday. I did around 13 miles with a lot of hills on Sunday, yesterday was shorter.

From today, I am allowed to drive and to lift things more than 10 kgs. I celebrated this by doing a set of 10 pull ups. (I normally do loads throughout the day and don't bother logging them.) It is still another week before I am allowed to exercise - I interpret this as being intense exercise like lifting and climbing.

It is a good thing that you don't weigh much more than 10 kg, or those pullups would count as exercise.

Looking forward to more logs, scenery pics and dive footage

^I reached the dizzy heights of 144 pounds recently! So I am clearly no longer tiny. (I was kind of constipated, though, although this a bit of a relative concept on an ultra- high fibre diet).

My exercise has just been walking recently. I have averaged around 21,000 steps a day, so I have been doing quite a lot of it.

I have an ECG and blood work tomorrow, which will hopefully get me the all-clear to climb and lift again. Climbing will need to be in my garden until COVID restrictions ease a bit.

I fancy taking up "dry" caving when possible - my one trip to Wales to try it was brilliant. (The club's cottage was £8 a night, so just won't break the bank either.)

The ECG, echo and blood work was all good.

BP: 120/70
Cholesterol: 3.6 (high starts at 5)
1AC: 32 (pre-diabetes starts at 42).

So I have sign off to exercise properly. I had a crack at climbing on my home wall. It wasn't brilliant. Also, the combination of blood thinning drugs and flappers proved sub-optimal.

I did leg day on Christmas Eve. I went light, as it was the first lifting day post surgery.

I did loads of pistols, 3 sets of 10 squat (60 kgs) and 3 sets of 5 deadlift (100 kgs).

On Christmas, I went round my little brother's. We had a climb in his garden (I was terrible.) Then we did a 10 mile walk.

Merry Christmas, S&F.

I went for a quick climb on the 29th, and got heart palpitations early on. I stopped climbing, and my heart rate remained between 120 and 140 for 20 minutes. (My resting heart rate is usually around 50, and it normally reaches that level fairly quickly on stopping exercise.)

Apparently, palpitations are a known side effect of the surgery, so it is nothing to worry about. Still, I found it slightly alarming.

On 30th December, I did a 10 mile walk. I wanted to take it easy following the palpitations the previous day.

This felt good, so I lifted on 31st December, and then did a 9 mile walk.

The lifting started with hangboarding. I was in form, getting 15 seconds on the 12 mm rung, a PB. I then did finger curls, and then benched 3 sets of 10 with 45 kgs. (I have reset my lifts.)
I overhead pressed 35 kgs for 3 sets of 5.

Yesterday, I did a very hilly 18 mile walk, in freezing fog and rain.

Two days ago, I got a 90 minute climb in. I was terrible, but didn't seem in danger of dying, which was nice.

Yesterday I did a 10 mile walk followed by leg day, which may be sup-optimal planning on my part. For lifting, I did:
  • 3 sets of 10, squat, 65 kgs
  • 3 sets of 6 deadlift, 100 kgs
  • Loads of pistols

I have a few weigh-ins in a row at between 145 and 147 pounds, which is at the upper end of what I aim for. So I'm running a cut (2,100 calories a day compared to 2,600 normal). It seems to have gone well so far - I have had 3 consecutive weigh-ins at around 143 pounds, so I should be able to eat proper amounts of food again soon. I've been on the cut for 6 days. (It's probably all just water and waster weight, but I seem to have developed minor OCD over these things.)
