The only annoying part of the 531 app is that for whatever reason it doesn't having the boring but big template available, you have to calculate it yourself. Boourns having to multiply by .5 manually

Do you even HAES?

Being overweight is still a risk factor for a whole lot of diseases, right? Did i miss some major study?

If not, any HAES fatties can jump off a bridge.

I posted this a couple months ago, worth a repost imo.

The epidemiology of overweight and obesity: public health crisis or moral panic?

"Yet even as the volume of alarm grows louder, a growing number of researchers, drawn from a broad array of academic disciplines, are calling these claims into question. The authors of this article come from this latter group. In our view the available scientific data neither support alarmist claims about obesity nor justify diverting scarce resources away from far more pressing public health issues. This article evaluates four central claims made by those who are calling for intensifying the war on fat: that obesity is an epidemic; that overweight and obesity are major contributors to mortality; that higher than average adiposity is pathological and a primary direct cause of disease; and that significant long-term weight loss is both medically beneficial and a practical goal. Given the limited scientific evidence for any of these claims, we suggest that the current rhetoric about an obesity-driven health crisis is being driven more by cultural and political factors than by any threat increasing body weight may pose to public health."

I should probably get myself some straps soon. Are there different types? Is quality a concern? Should I just browse around and snag the cheapest, or should I go with something with a name and that's recommended?

Seat belt material cut so it's half normal width and about 12" long. Then you can use the strip of material method of strapping.

Friend of mine recommended versa gripps, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I'm not sure if I can justify $40-50 on a pair of straps because I'm a cheap ass. This seat belt material idea intrigues me.

Keep it simple imo. I've got a $15 pair that are great. I prefer the more supple ones to the stiffer ones.

These are the ones I use.

I really can't believe expensive straps can do anything more. Those lifting hooks and grips and wotnot seem like total overkill.

Seat belt material sounds like it would be pretty uncomfortable.

Basic cotton straps are fine for the majority of people and are like $5.

They will eventually wear out or can bust with heavy lifts (I've gone through a few pair), and as a result I get mine with webbing sewn on the back.

I get all mine from APT.

Thank you very much for the tips and links guys!

Phatony - feeling lazy, just gonna order em from somewhere. But I'm curious, where would one go about getting seat belt material?

AIOTT - gonna go with the standard straps, because I'll want to use the for front squats G4S-style if I ever get front squats back in my programming

EDIT: also, G4S, I was looking through that site, only straps I could find were like >$30, am I missing something?

you dont want padding if at all possible
12-04-2012 , 09:06 PM
That said, it's probably not hard to pull the padding out.

Maybe, the site is always weird and outdated. And I don't pay for anything there. My bad for not looking first and assuming.
