I've tried two methods of posting a iphone vid to youtube with no success, anyone know how its done?

edit; nevermind. I got it.

Here it is;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBIx3d0qfGk

This was my third set, added 10lbs from last workout. 235 now

First set form was good, I had the only pt at my gym I know thats not ******ed check on my form.(I watched him deadlifting 405 2x3)

I was worried my knees were too far forward as I noticed a slight bit of stress on my knees after last workout.

Second set felt good, but got tougher.

Finally the third set, I felt like my form was bad, I'm not sure if my knees are too far forward or what, but it felt off.

I know I didn't get all the way down on the last one.

and lol @ me for missing the right side at the end

You're going to hurt your elbows/wrists like that as the weight gets heavier.
Looking too high also

Angle sucks.

1st of all, rack the bar on the pins lower, it's important. At least one notch lower, probably two. 2nd of all you need to fix your arms. You wrists are bent back very far. You need to get your elbows up. you also need to look down in front of you. It's hard to tell but you might have the bar in the wrong position on your back.

Just a few cues for ya.

Do any of the SSers have any advice for beginning weight training for an older and weaker female? My mother needs to do some weight training and I'd like to get her started on something. She is not in awful shape or anything and is 53. She has a pretty small frame and is fairly weak, but not absurdly weak. She has had some experience with weight training in the past, including a lot of barbell and dumbbell work.

I'm not positive a lot of her lifts would be ready for even a 45-lbs bar, especially benches and presses. Also, her other lifts would be at such a low level, warmups would be weird with an empty bar which would be nearly her working weight on its own.

Is this program recommended at all for someone like this?

Yep. If she can't squat you could have her do leg press until she can squat the bar. I think people say do leg press until she can press her body weight. Could look for lighter bars for the other exercises (and use dumbells)

I'm pretty sure she can handle squats, but warmups are going to be weird, unless she squats with dumbbells or something odd. I figure for BP and presses, she can use dumbbells if its a big deal.

I might have her do chinups (or just lowering chinups) or some variation instead of power cleans until she gets some strength. I don't really need her trying power cleans until she feels comfortable with the empty bar.

Old people probably don't need to do cleans. It scares them, much like the Internet does.

And, from my extremely small sample size, they just suck at them.

Quite true. Both at the Internet and cleans, though I'm sure you meant both as well.

the older, and less athletic you get, the harder power cleans are. I'm significantly stronger now than when I was 18, but I could clean more back then, presumably because my athleticism and quickness were better.

My knees are feeling stressed today. Got to figure out what's up with this. I've never had knee problems and i'd like to avoid starting now. Any advice/suggestions?

Ibuprofen, ice.

As someone who was a chronic user of ibuprofen in the past, I'd recommend against habitual usage.

As someone who is a current chronic user of ibuprofen, I'd recommend that it is the only thing that works and I have yet to see side effects. That being said, it is probably not a good thing to be addicted to.

If you use ibuprofen when your knees swell, that's fine. As someone who used to pop 8-10 of vitamin-I three times a week just so I could shove my fingers into cracks in the rock while ignoring the pain of ripping skin, there may be some marginal long-term "damage", but there's no physically addictive properties, or any visible detoxing effects. In other words, it's very safe, if it helps you, use it.

I haven't any pain that requires any medication.

I feel like the muscles surrounding my knees are stressed and hence the joint is stressed...

Ibuprofen obviously doesn't have any addictive effects, but chronically stunting your body's inflammation response is bad. It's what heals you y'know?

Indeed. Which tells you a lot about pitching.
