Definitely fine with doing squats, just need to find the best way to get it done. Should I really be so sore after 2 days that it still hurts like hell to walk up steps? I'll probably switch my rest day to today, and just lift tomorrow instead since I am still hurting pretty badly from the last squats. Hopefully this is normal for starting out and will go away after a few weeks.

Wont even take that long - you'll be a lot better after the next workout, and not really get it all after that.

Would I even be able to do squats today with any effectiveness if I went? I felt this poorly yesterday, but was able to run a while (although stairs were brutal). I just feel like if I tried squats today I would get crushed.

Warm up properly and you'll be fine.

Whatev, chill a day extra if you're crazy sore. Some would say 'don't be a pussy, work out', I lol at them.

i thought i read somewhere that doms will linger much longer if you continually rest them. tc should not be doing very much weight so the soreness should not really affect his ability to do the workout.

i could be wrong about training thru doms tho, but im pretty sure i read somewhere you were supposed to.

I don't get it. DOMS can be very sick the first workout after a long lay-off, or if it's your first time doing <activity x> ever. Second time is better, and after that it's whatev. This has been my experience (and that of others I've trained with) always, so I don't see the point in training through the DOMS after a first workout if you're insanely sore.

DOMS actually goes away dramatically during your actual workout. Increased bloodflow or something.

I would just go for it but if you wait an extra day it probably doesn't really matter.

I kinda wish I could experience DOMS again. So exquisitely painful without feeling unhealthy at all. Like the opposite of tendonitis.

Does wearing a belt help keep waist size down or is it another gym myth? I can't find any good information online.

+1. Whenever I start working out after a layoff, I get DOMS after my first workout, still have it to start the 2nd, but I feel fine working out. And by the 3rd I'm usually all better.

lf,

lol. of course it doesn't. I've never even heard that before.

It'd be pretty sweet though, re: magickal belt.

And imo DOMS after layoff <<<<<<<< DOMS first time working out evar/in a loooooooooong time. Of course, the main trick is to not overdo the weights on the first workout after a long layoff.

It's widely done in the bodybuilding community and i guess the theory is that your obliques are worked less during compound movements. For instance, Ronnie Coleman says he walks around all day with a belt to keep his waist small. Either way i'm surprised you haven't even heard of it.

haven't been able to do SS for about a month, mainly b/c i screwed my knee up a few weeks ago, but now i have some time restrictions.

hope to start working out again this week, but still have some time restrictions as of now. i hope to work out 3 days a week but not sure what my schedule will be like, when doing SS i was just doing M,W,F and not sure i can do it every other day now

so one week may be somethign like this M, Th., Sat, next week Tues, Fri, Sun
fllowed by Tu, Thurs, Sat.

questions, can i still SS w/ this or is there another program i can start up with this irregular intervals, also note i may only be able to do 2 days someweeks, will shoot for 3, but will have no problem going at least 2 days a week

does anyone know of other programs?

I'll tell you what, there are huge benefits to doing SS and having a massage therapist for a wife. Had her torture me on the table last night, came out feeling nearly perfect this morning. Too bad I went to the gym today and now come out sore as hell again.

I failed my squats today on Workout #2. I'm pretty sure it was because I put too much on the first workout (was increasing by 20 lbs instead of 10 to find my starting weight). I thought I was going to be able to go a lot higher than what I was, and once I put on too much weight, it was rough. Still being a little sore, that extra 5 lbs caused me to fail on my 3rd set after 1. Ugh. It's really annoying because my legs are already pretty huge (I have to make sure to get jeans that have a super loose fit, and they still fit like skinny jeans), and mostly strong. Yet I still am a pussy at squats. We'll see if I can progress at bench and deadlifts on Tuesday. I'd imagine I should be able to at deadlifts since I think I stopped way under what I'm capable of doing. Bench, that's another story. My arms are so weak.

At least power-clean was easier than I thought it would be. I was kinda worried about technique and how natural it would be. I'll have to get some videos up here to critique on form of some since I am so new at this stuff, and it's tough to see where I'm going wrong.

workout #2? somethings wrong brah. I'd get vids of form up asap. You might have started way too heavy, as in workout 1 may have been too heavy for good form. Otherwise it's hard to understand how you'd fail adding 5lbs 2 days later (most people add 10-15 for a while).

LOL 110. First set was not really hard at all. Second set I started to feel it a little more, and the last two reps were a bitch, but doable. I must not have rested enough or something in between sets. Third set, started out with two tough ones, went down for a 3rd, and ended up stopping without coming up. Yes, I am a pussy too.

And yes, I'm pretty sure I started workout #1 too heavy. Started at 5x45, went to 65, 85. 85 was easy as hell, so I kept going 20, and was gonna just go up 10 once it seemed to not be a joke to try to get that starting weight. I definitely slowed down and was getting pretty tired after 3 sets of 105 the first workout. Probably should have stopped around 95 or so that day. I just anticipated going a lot higher than 105 on my first day. There was a weak-looking woman next to me squatting almost that, so I thought for sure I could do it easily.

being 10lbs off of a "good" starting weight isn't that big of a deal. That's not the answer.

What are your rest times? In the early stages I did 2-3 mins.

Maybe your wife's massages obliterate muscles. I'd desist immediately.

It's possible. I don't time the rests, maybe I should. My best guess is between 1-2 minutes. I rest less for warmup sets.

Today I took about 40 minutes to do everything, trying to think how many sets I did. I did a total of 21 sets (9 were 3 rep cleans, though). So yeah, I'm definitely under 2 minutes rest, since I'm under 2 minutes of total times.

I'll go without massage until the next workout, start on 110 again for squats and see what happens. Maybe someday I can be as awesome as Victor. But probably not, since I've already failed a squat.

I'm trying to remember what's the consensus on cutting and taking creatine?

From what I remember it didn't sound like it was recommended, but from what I've been reading it doesn't sound like a terrible idea, especially when trying to retain strength.
