This is a good point that people who advocate
only (overhand) pull-ups fail to understand (i.e. greater loading and stimulus) while they tout preferential recruitment of the lats and less use of the biceps (which is somewhat true.) However, doing
only (supinated) chinups will sacrifice some lat recruitment. Also, using only one grip for all your vertical pull* volume is a recipe for overuse injuries like tendinosis.
Takeaway: Do pull-ups, chin-ups, and neutral grip pullups. They're all useful and will keep your joints healthy.
