I went to my doctor for my normal 6-month checkup and the doctor randomly asked me if I wanted to lose some weight. Of course, I said yes, and he ended putting me on Mounjaro

I took my first injection on Saturday and so far, so good. No current Side Effects.

Starting Weight: 238 3/18/2023
Today's Weight: 231 3/20/2023

k, so I'm basically down 7 pounds in two days. I'm not locking this up as lost weight yet.

I have noticed that I'm totally not as hungry so far. I'm have been trying to eat about half of what I normally eat, this has been working so far.

I have been trying to eat about half the amount of food than I normally eat. ie, instead of 2-3 slices of pizza I'm pretty much full after 3/4 of a slice.

I have some minor blood sugar issues but so far my BG readings have been as low as I have seen in a few year. Getting some in the 90's. Previously it was rare to have any under 130 ever. Last A1C was at 6.3

6 days, I'll be away all day tomorrow so here's a one week update:

Starting weight: 238 3/18/2023
Current weight: 225 3/24/2023

Side Effects: none

Notes:

Just took my second shot of the 2.5 MG of Mounjaro.

I have noticed that it only takes about 1/2 the amount of food that I was eating to feel full.

All of my BG reading have been awesome: Morning reading 122, before starting on Mounjaro my range was between 130-150 in the morning.

Subscribed.
Never hear of Mounjaro.
Please report your level of exercise as well. If you can estimate your daily calorie intake that would be helpful.

Mounjaro aka tirzepatide is the most powerful anti obesity drug known to man.

You should see it as a statin, you are on for life or else the problem just comes back. If I were obese and struggling with weight loss I would kill to get my paws on this stuff.

I mean, it might get fatties an extra 5-10 years of life plus significant increase in quality of life.

The question of the day is does it make food less tasty?

Food taste great I might even argue that is tastes almost better but this might just be that I'm eating much better food. Example: For breakfast I just had a half of an Orange.

Yesterday after work I stopped for Mongolian BBQ. I didn't realized that it was an all you can eat place. After my first plate about 5 minutes later I was checking out. The food was awesome I just didn't want a ton of it.

Weekly update:

Current weight: 222
Starting weight: 238
Amount Lost: 16 pounds

Starting week 3, I'll take my 3rd shot at some point today. Currently zero noticeable side effects

As amazing as the weight loss is the results for BG aka blood glucose has been pretty amazing so far. I have been getting BG reading in the 90's. This is a spot I haven't seen for over 5 years.

I can't remember if I said it or not in my OP. I didn't seek this drug out. I was just at a normal 6 month checkup at my urgent care doctor(Too tough for me to keep appointment so I have an Urgent care doctor are my regular doctor). The doctor asks me if I would like to lose some weight. I say sure and he wrote the script for Mounjaro. Currently it's a 25 dollar a month co-pay for me.

That's a damn good doctor. A lot of donk doctors. My cousin is 40 5'9 240 with 275 cholesterol and his doctor tells him to make lifestyle changes. Sigh.

It's true, if you make lifestyle changes a small percentage of folks won't need medication. But the percent success is way too low. I am ripped to the bone and still should be on a statin. Genes gonna gene.

I used to play a home game with a cardiologist bro who would say statins should just be in the water.

I'm starting to think that Metformin should be in the water as well. There are tons of stories out there that Metformin is the closest thing to a fountain of youth drug.

Metformin appears to have deleterious impacts if taken by healthy people, such as a decrease to VO2 max.

Interesting, my VO2 max sucks. I'm curious if this will get better if I shed 50 pounds.

One of these weeks I'm going to add in exercise to this weight loss journey.

One of these weeks I'm going to add in exercise to this weight loss journey.
I lost 45 pounds just over 4 years ago (going from around 185 to around 140 pounds) . I reversed borderline diabetes, borderline hypertension and borderline high cholesterol in the process, broadly without drugs (although I do take a statin).

I suspect my V02 max was terrible at the start of the process. I suspect it's now alright (Fitbit reckons 58 milli-litre/kg/min, which is probably a huge over-estimate. It would be pretty good if true, given that I'm in my 50s.,)
To what extent the improvement was down to weight loss and to what extent exercise (I now exercise a lot), I have no idea.

I have been at borderline diabetes for about 5 years now but the last year my BG numbers have been creeping up higher and higher. So far since I started on Mounjaro my BG numbers have be very close to perfect. 110 BG in the morning, If I can get this under 100 in the morning it would be awesome.

Of course, my insurance company is now trying not to cover this. They are making me jump through hoops now, but I was able to get another month filled for the time being.

I hit a plateau but all good. My BG numbers are really good, and this is a marathon not a sprint.

Might have run into a snag with my insurance. They are now asking for a prior auth which I'm not even sure if it has been approved yet or not. I was able to get my next month filled for 25 bucks. I currently have a 6-month script.

I'm going to attempt to add in some exercise this week. Weather finally going to start getting nice in Pennsylvania.

A friend of mine started on Mounjaro 2 weeks ago after I was telling him my success so far he asked his doctor about it.

His BG, aka blood glucose, in the morning before starting on Mounjaro was in the 250 range, in less than 2 weeks it's around 100 in the morning. Down 8 pounds in less than 2 weeks as well.

Down 1 pound for the week.

Still zero side effects. BG in a range between 100-120 in the morning.

Just finally started exercising 2 days ago. Starting out with at least a 10 minute walk 5 days a week and some trips on my Ebike.

Averaging around 40k steps per week. Going to try to increase this to at least 70k steps per week.

I seem to be eating better and better as time goes on and food still taste great, just less of it. Totally staying away from fast food and frozen foods. Really trying to focus more on totally low carb.

I bought some Ketone strips but have yet to get into Ketosis. (I blame my sweetened Iced tea which I only drink if I go out somewhere which is basically almost every night of the week.) I drink unsweetened tea at home

Changed injection site from stomach to thigh as a suggestion from a nurse. Started this last week. Still on the 2.5 Mounjaro

Still no noticeable side effects

BG levels have been really good, mostly in a fasting range of 100-120 but I'm starting to see some numbers under 100 from time to time.

Slightly increased exercise. Was able to get in 3-4 walks of at least 10 minutes, missed my goal of at least getting 5 days in a week but in my defense it got cold out all of a sudden.

I'm eating heathier than I can remember. Examples of my current snacks:

Celery sometimes with peanut butter
Coconut chunks
Sugar snap peas
Olives stuffed with Jalapeno
Pickles
Andy Cap Hot fries
Herr's Kettle Jalapeno Chips
Outshine Lime bars
Cottage Cheese

Drinks:
Unsweetened Coffee
Unsweetened Tea

Alcohol:
Cut back on Alcohol consumption but I'll have a drink probably at 1-2 days a week. Leaning towards shots of whiskey instead of beer been putting myself at a 4 max drinks any night I drink.

Still haven't been able to get into Ketosis. I'm at a point now where I really don't even care about this.

Totally not related to Mounjaro:

Current Fargo Rating:

406

Working on trying to increase my Fargo by at least 50 points. Currently shooting in pool leagues 4 days a week but totally cutting back for the Summer. It's almost Golf season

TL: 20 pounds
LTW: .7 pounds
Goal Weight: 195

Uneventful week but I may have found one side effect. Wedding are tough, too much food and too much drink. I ended up leaving earlier than I wanted because I probably ate a little too much.

Going to slightly increase exercise from a 10 minute per day walk up to 15-20 minutes per day. Hopefully add in some golfing as well but the weather isn't looking good for the next week.

Unrelated to weight loss:

Last weeks Fargo: 405
Current Fargo: 401

Yeah, I suck at pool but still working on it.

Pace has slowed down but I'm happy if I average a pound a week going forward. At this rate I should be under 200 in about 6 months. Mounjaro is making this pretty easy so far but it's a long slow ride. Continuing to ramp up more and more exercise but it's all low density stuff at this point.

I'm pretty sure I can talk my doctor into ramping up to the 5 mg if I hit a point where all weight loss has stopped but for now I'll stay on the 2.5 instead of messing around with getting another prior authorization.

Do you have diabetes, or did they just put you on it for weight loss? Sounds like I need to talk to my doctor, I'm at around the same starting weight but no diabetes.

My A1C has been in the pre-diabetes range for about 5 years now. So I guess officially yes. Much tougher to get approved without T2D.

I guess I'm starting to get the hang of this and I'm not going to lie, I'm a bit shocked losing 2.7 on the week. I started tracking calories a couple of weeks ago and most likely this is the reason for the good week. Still exercising but nothing serious. 10-20 minute walk almost everyday and added in a few push ups.

Still currently on the lowest dose of 2.5 and it looks like I'm staying here for another 2-3 months which is fine by me. Why mess with something that is working?
