Ratio seems appropriate given that high rep fs is generally a bit harder than hbbs When I oly lifted, I could fs like 87-89% of hbbs if it was for 1-3 reps, but when it started going up the ratio falls a bit.

I guess I'll do a test run on Tuesday, and honestly I don't think I can beat fakeb yet.

How did you decide on 225?

I was high 80s as well. I use 80/75% for HBBS/LBBS which is a good conversion for LBBS proles as a conversion. Then again I couldn't HBBS without hurting myself to the point where I had to stop. So w/e.

Then again this is borderline cardio. I prob hit 2xBW before I do 10x10x82

I think there is a bit of variation based on training, injuries, and what you're naturally good at. For me I could never get above 50% on FS (but I barely trained it. I'm pretty sure even if I did 80% would have been a pipe dream). On the other hand, there's someone on here who was almost 1:1 (Dudd, I think).

Mike,

That reminds me that someone at the gym did 100 FS @100kg recently. There were no requirements that it was 10x10, just finish 100 reps, so mostly sets of 5 iirc. I think it took around an hour total and I'm guessing he weighs slightly more than me, i.e. 97-100.

Melk,

For people that FS regularly, I believe ~90% of their HBBS is what is considered "efficient".

Yeah, that seems reasonable.

I think a most of the inefficiency may be entirely due to not training FS. I mean how many H&Fers can, at this moment, FS a 5 rep set of 80% the weight of their best 5 rep low bar backsquat. I'm sure there are a handful, but I don't think it's that common. Not really sure, though. Just guessing.

Monte,

Are you still reading in the shower and if so what does wifecore think of this proclivity?

Sure do.

She's pretty much used to it by now, although when we first met she thought it was exceedingly weird.

AIOTT,

It probably never would have become a thing had waterproof bluetooth speakers and podcasts been a thing when I was a lad, but I was a child of the late 80s. I'm not going to apologize for liking long showers and disliking boredom.

You *read* in the shower.

I don't even.

Literally how.

Not sure how you've missed the discussion, considering it's been had approximately once every 18 months since I became a reg here.

I hold the book in front of me and I read. Not sure what's difficult to grasp.

I miss lots of things, Monte.

How about a ten-step guide I could follow?

Any reason you have not transitioned to the 21st century with said bluetooth speaker for audiobooks, podcasts...?

First he undoes the binding, then laminates every page, then rebinds the book and keeps it in the shower.

Then he holds the book in front of him and reads.

I respect it to be honest. I'd never do it because I'm in and out of the shower in 90-120 seconds, but if you're going to take a long one and luxuriate might as well dig in.

Rustly,

Congrats on surviving the Austin Bomb Scare of 2018.

I have a bluetooth speaker, of course, but I find I prefer reading, actually; probably a muscle memory thing, at this point.

There's not really much do it -- there's no real need for two hands while you're in there, as shampooing and body scrubbing can pretty easily be done with one hand. I have a two person shower with dual waterfall heads, so if for some reason I need to put it down for a second, I can just throw it on a shelf on the unused side. The books obviously get a little wet, but I'm not bringing first edition Shakespeares in there or anything so no big deal.

What is preferred reading whilst showering?

I was going to ask if you bathe yourself while reading or if you are just relaxing under the stream and reading, seems like the first but I guess it could still be both.

Length of typical shower when reading?

BGP,

It just depends on what's on the reading list; working my way through Expert Political Thinking by Tetlock at the moment (on a rec from Thremp), and have The Self Driven Child waiting in the wings. Popular Crime by Bill James is always on the back of the toilet in case I need something, or the most recent version of ESPN the Magazine.
Bathing's a few minutes, then hang out read for maybe 10 or so? I don't really keep track. I shower at home so infrequently these days, as I'm either on the road or showering at the gym a lot, that it's taking me longer to get through books. Luckily I have a few vacations coming up.

As an aside, it occurs to me that this would probably be a good thing to add to that "Things You Thought Were Normal" OOT thread.

I take it from Monte's response that this is not actually true. I would have honestly been impressed and subscribed to his newsletter.

I like doing arts and crafts with books. My own favorite thing to do is to get a bargain book that has the appropriate size but most of all the appropriate title. I use mod podge to seal the pages together, then I carefully carve out the middle so that the book is now a container for things that fit the theme of the book's title.

For example, The Odyssey contains mementos from my traveling adventures.

I did the rebinding thing for all of the Wheel of Time mass market paperbacks I had, but that was because there was a huge printing malfunction where literally every MM edition had a binding error that caused the books to fall apart after a few months. YOU HAD ONE JOB.

Most definitely. Thanks for the answer

I love showers, they are the greatest thing ever. I believe in Planet Earth there's a bit on tiger cubs and when they get bathed for the first time the water relaxes them so much and releases so many endorphins that they go completely limp and can't move. That's me in the shower. I might have to add a podcast or reading a book to my showering.
