I'm guessing most 18 year old girls will find the SS style of lifting and points of emphasis even more un-appealing than most 18 year old boys. I mean not commenting on skeledaughter who I am quite sure is far from an ordinary 18 year old girl, but can you imagine trying to sell 5s only on lbbs, bench, dl with ultra limited assistance to most 18 year old girls? ****ing impossible. 99% who enter the gym want to either literally just have fun and get their HR up or look more sexy, (or just be the focus of attention and admiration which happens by just showing up in yoga pants); SS does basically neither.

You might be able to successfully explain the relationship between strength and size and why it's great to develop the neural pathways for big compound movements via emphasizing them more heavily for one's first 3-9 months of training to an 18 year old boy who exhibits signs of a relatively fast developing pre-frontal cortex, but can you imagine arguing this to an average 18 year old girl? lmao, good luck. Gonna be all cable glute kickbacks and tricep toning for days.

I've got an 18 year old girl who's expressed interest in lifting with football team and I had to tell her no b/c I already have 10-15 over-energetic boys at a time with 4 squat racks in there and they're already extreme easily distracted. They would lose their minds over a girl showing up. Might motivate them to be less ******ed in the weight room though. Had a kid literally fail a squat from laughing mid-set. And then if I make them somewhat accountable to where they're actually tired resting between sets because it's an appropriate RPE7 they fake an injury or come up with some horse**** excuse why they can't come. I've got one little 15 year old, a really big 16 year old who is repeating his freshmen year, 2 16 year old ultranerds, and one 17 year old obvious genetic chad who take it very seriously and it's super rewarding to see them progress and more than offsets any complaints about the ExpectedVaginas of the team.

btw thank god I ended up not having to do any real football coaching. Got a squad of interns for the whole year.

no pics

anyway hope skelebro's influence counteracts broscience teacher giving a serious Jim Antipasto recommendation.

I would have her limit the accessories to some cardio stuff, ab workouts (she demanded them), and light other work. She did well with lifting while she was interested. She stopped pretty much when she had her head injury (January 2015) and has focused on cardio stuff since.

My middle daughter would do exactly what was planned out. Every once in a while she would want to do extra work, mainly to try and not have "flabby arms". Her arms weren't flabby, it was just a body image she had. Her arms were not strong, but not fat either and the flab was just her meat she could move around when not flexing. She is a very bright and driven young lady (graduated high school with her associates degree). I think she will work her way through books/programs to see what she likes. I don't really care what plan she uses, as long as she is using good form because it is better than the alternative: doing nothing.

I got "your dog has cancer" as the four most depressing words in the english language.

Thanks. You know how it is--more tests for a prognosis. They are thinking it's aggressive and advanced. Just picked her up last night from boarding for a week full of wife appointments and she looked emaciated and skeletal. Like she lost half her weight in a week. Went from wondering if they just forgot to feed her and needed a good ass kicking to knowing we were taking her in to hear "cancer". Seemingly every lymph node is swollen.

Thanks. This is...not doing wonders for my depression. I almost never go to the gym on college football Saturdays but think I have to make an exception. I wonder how many ipads would look weird?

Who cares. Just wear your kitty shirt and they'll all be distracted by that.

**** man, sorry Holliday. One of our dogs had cancer, was really tough to watch this awful disease take it's course. Hoping for the best for your pup.

Stumbled across this after our's died. Amazing, but a tear jerker.

I have no words about your dog's cancer. I've tried to post a couple of times. I'm not very good at these things. I hope it comes out well for you and your dog.

Appreciate it, guys. Seemingly impossibly, that video is actually cheering me up. The dog is not in pain and did have an easier overnight last night but she's at maybe 1/10th her usual energy level and sleeping a lot more. Still has appetite and on hi-cal and frequency diet to try to add any weight we can. She's been eating the whole time, just evidently hasn't been absorbing much. Took her and the wife out for a long wheelchair walk and some sun with the Decatur Craft Beer Festival (tm) going on; they both love crowds and everyone's always so nice to us at these things around here, especially when they realize it's not just an elaborate ruse to cut in line for beer.

Ultrasound tomorrow which might tell us all we really need to know. She's 16.5, which is young for her family history, but I know we've already been lucky to have this much time. I have been somewhat impressed with my wife's ability to work through her feelings on this; a few months ago I would've just expected to be cast as the enemy and get attacked a lot and that would...*never* change. After the first night, though, she's settled in to just wanting to lavish attention on the dog while we still have her and worrying about me being overwhelmed. I didn't even have to chloroform her the first night.

Gosh. I'm glad that turned out like it has with her. Kind of crazy to discover how you and another respond to crisis and grief.

Yeah it's been a big focus of both our therapies; I've known for years she gets carried away by anxiety and to be patient, but we're now told more specifically it's called "perseveration" and that really her lizard brain cuts off all communication with the prefrontal cortex (meaning logic) and just "wings it" in an extreme emotional echo chamber. Me trying to talk her out of things logically (in the moment) gets a reaction roughly similar to a bunny seeing a lion charging at it. Give her time and let that chain reaction process clear out (and *then* discuss it rationally) is the way to go, but...it doesn't come naturally to me being a spergnit. I do think her therapy and medication has shrunk that process from several months to several hours, which obviously helps.

Sorry Holliday. I just came home to find two of my cats were all cut up. Looks like a stray came in through the balcony and they all had it out. Just hand-bathed them myself at 1am and keeping fingers crossed that they don't get infected. People without pets just don't get it.

Hugs Holliday, sucks so much. I hope your cats are ok Renton. My cat was always getting into scraps as she would guard her territory ferociously even though she was a tiny little thing. She once had scared a cat twice her size up a tree and I had to pick her up spitting and hissing and take her inside so the poor bugger could climb down and escape. She was a great cat.

Man that sucks. They let you hand-bathe them, or do you look worse than them now? I used to have a cat that *liked* to take hot baths, so a friend tried it with his and nearly got killed.
