Didn't really feel it today, so just got in what I felt like. I think this is 14 straight days, so hopefully I'm back in the habit.

Probably dont really feel like it because you training like a donk. Eat like a donk, train like a donk equals donk.

Your sweet spot easy training heart rate is 145-155. And yet look at these act hard, fatty heart rates you keep posting. Fail.

All UT3 will be feet out from now on; kept this one a bit lighter and it felt pretty good. Slept 10+ hours last night, so I'm sure that helped.

what does “feet out” mean?
Monte's Log, Featuring a Debate About Dotard Genetic Potential with an Ant Quote

No straps on the foot stretchers; helps keep you connected to the machine because you can't use your toes and the straps to help you change direction at the finish as you go into the recovery.

I'm supposed to do 15' of UT1 tomorrow, getting up to 24 spm, with a warmup and cool down. The variety will be nice.

oh god I hate that

I have to do it a lot because the straps at the gym are always garbage and it's the worst

In a shocking development after school started, I have the sniffles; not sure if it affected me today or not. Hopefully it's not the ultimate poz, but if it is, I have faith in PLOVKJ to protect me.

UT1 - 13'
3359m/1:56.2/23.4 spm/178 HR/186 MHR
r4591m (10' warmup + 10' cooldown)

Went out a bit hot on this one, but TG wanted me at 24 spm for 15' so I gave it the ol' college try (and fail). In the past, I had a fair bit of trouble getting my UT1 stroke tappy enough so I didn't blow out my legs in five minutes, so I'm actually not that unhappy with this. I "could" have completed the last two minutes, but redlining on UT1 probably isn't optimal.

PLOVKJ protects his adherents and generally only smites nonbelievers. I share your faith.

I actually got tested a couple of wks ago because I had contact with someone who was later determined to be pozzed. I tested negative, but I was genuinely a bit disappointed. I was feeling fine and it was several days after, so I would likely have been a more or less asymptomatic case.

However if I had a COVID infection and I got vaccinated, I'd feel pretty invincible for the future. I was out of town, so the only downside is that I'd have to stay away from the family for a few extra days. But overall, probably +EV.

UT2 - 40'
9462m/2:06.8/16.2 spm/176 HR/190 MHR
r2248m (10' warmup)

HR was high today during warmup and stayed that way throughout the row; it didn't feel like it was that high, so I think I'm just going to keep UT2 around this pace moving forward and wait for my HR to come down to where it used to be. Probably not the optimal solution, but definitely less boring them slogging along at 2:15 for an hour.

No idea what's up with my HR lately, but I don't feel fatigued so I'm just going to keep going.

maybe you are just out of shape?

No doubt, but running a 180 HR at the end of an easy UT3 session is pretty unusual. Sleep hasn't been great, still a little sick, and fat/old/out of shape is probably most of it, but it's just annoying having to grind back the gains.

Two thoughts because that HR has been pretty high compared to your norm and your fitness can’t be that much worse given you’ve had 3 weeks + back

1. Is it possible that your HRM isn’t working well?
2. Are you boozing more? My RHR will drop by 5/6 bpm over the course of the work week while I don’t drink and then be up again by Mon if I’m drinking Fri to Sun

I’m still learning how to understand my HR but I reckon my max must be a lot lower than yours - I rarely see 170

I've actually only been back 2.5 weeks, and the first week 15 minutes felt like a slog, so it's only really been 10 days of actual work. No booze since I started.

I just put a fresh battery in the HRM, so I don't think it's that. I'll just chalk it up to calorie deficit/poor sleep/out of shape and just keep going until things calm back down.

Come on Monte, you know what's up after all your rowing. Your HR is high because you're rowing too fast. You think it's easy, but you quit a session! This is back to your pre-PP days when you were rowing your "steady state" at 2:00 and your HR was 180 or whatever. Do it if that's what motivates you to get back on the horse, though.

there's no way that 2.14.7/500 for 30 mins is too fast for him. it's difficult to row that slow

That session does seem to be an outlier, but I was talking about his training in general. I have seen UT2 sessions ending at 180 and UT3 sessions ending at 170. He needs to slow it down if he wants to hit the right zones, or not if he doesn't care.

that's funny

I must be awful at rowing

even when I was fairly into rowing I was never going much faster than 2:15

Today felt much better; felt a bit smoother on the erg. HR still high but approaching halfway decent; I'll probably just try to stick around this pace/distance for another week or two, unless I receive other instructions.

sorry if I came off like a dick.

It was just my way of saying that for Monte with his length and background in rowing, there's no way that that pace is too fast for him.

Not much difference I don't think - maybe slightly easier? I'll see what TG has to say about it. Continuing to feel better every session regardless.

Did this at 85 drag and it was significantly easier than 70-75, both in perceived effort and HR. Hopefully this isn't just a one off.
