Holliday,

It was more a "we're fronting the money for a joint family expense" kind of thing and not a "I need $1300" kind of thing, so it was a bit unavoidable, other than maybe spreading out risk to the other siblings.

And he's doing this thing at his friend's house and his waiters are his friends, so there are no added expenses for staff or anything. Zero chance he could be profitable doing this if there were, and I doubt he's making more than a few bucks an hour as it is.

Oh, I didn't even see the edit; it likely presumes my brother-in-law processes and feels shame on the same way normal people do, which ime isn't usually the case.

So for a "family" opportunity he gladly takes your $1k.

But when "family" comes to enjoy this opportunity, it costs $70 a head still?

I'd be ordering a pizza and telling him to F off.

This is the easiest "lol no thanks" and/or just go and eat and deduct it from the money owed. You do not need his permission for that. If he is not ok with it then just don't go to the thing. Having boundaries, especially with family, is important and I think this is a very useful and reasonable one to draw (not draw in anger, just matter-of-factly).

It was more an obligation than an opportunity, but yeah. Basically a party we threw for my in-laws where we organized/paid and got reimbursed from the other siblings essentially instantly.

Eh, it's really k. I'm trying to walk a line between encouragement and enabling, and I pretty much immediately discounted getting money out of him, ever, despite everyone's protestations to the contrary.

Yeah, this isn't about money, it's about boundaries. I guess all I'm really trying to communicate is not that you are doing anything right or wrong, but you should feel very free to create such boundaries. You are not obligated to go to something like this in such a situation imo. Sometimes the most encouraging thing can be to draw these boundaries for family members.

Lol at 31. I assumed he was like 25 max with all this millennial hipster talk

Also if you ever decide you want to loan someone money and immediately discount getting it back again, I will be available.

This reads as BIL being 37 and Monte being 31. It's supposed to be the other way around, right?

Correct. Through four courses; pretty good so far. Already drunk.

1/28: 187.6

Walk: 3.06 miles at 4.1/5% incline (45:00)
HLR: 4x8
Pallofs: 4x12

Kind of a late start to the morning because I was pretty hungover; wine paired with every course last night got me kind of lit pretty quickly. Only had time for some quick ab stuff and then 45 minutes walking, plus I may have literally died had I tried to row for any reasonable pace/distance. #olds

Best dishes were the salmon, bone marrow, ravioli, pot de creme, and beignets. Shrimp was meh. He was cooking with a friend and I don't remember which dishes were "his", but I think most of the good ones were. Fun night.

That's a relief. Mind would have exploded if you were only 31.

1/30: 187.4

A
OHP (5/3/1): wu, 5x100, 3x115, 7x130, 4x10x85
Facepulls: 6x15x50
Seated Cable Row: 6x15x87.5

B
DB Incline Bench: 4x9x65, 1x8x65
DB Pullover: 4x12x65

C
Dips: 4x8x+45
DB Hammer: 4x12x35

D
Single Arm Cable Tricep Pressdown: 4x12
Lateral Cable Raise: 4x12

E
Lying DB Skullcrushers: 4x12
Single Arm Cable Curl: 4x13

Pretty good result weight-wise given the cluster Friday night turned out to be; was hoping for 8 on the AMRAP, but the 7th rep was a super grind and no chance for the 8th. Picked up the pace today in general; kept the time between sets down for OHP especially for dat work capacity. This weight is tough on incline. Dips improving a bit. Good pump from the end stuff. LIGWIM.

1/31: 184.6

A
5/3/1 Squat: 5x170, 3x190, 8x215, 4x5x125 (paused)
Pullups: 9x9xbw

B
Leg Press: 5x12x250
Calf Raise on Leg Press: 5x12x200
Parallel Grip Lat Pulldown: 6x15x92.5

C
Leg Ext: 4x15
Leg Curl: 4x12

D
Hypers: 4x12xbw
Spider Curls: 4x12
KB Swings: 4x15

Squat felt and looked alright, I think; some minor lower back movement on a few reps, but I think better than a few weeks ago? Video'd the paused squats too, and I'm able to keep the bar over mid foot much more effectively. Should I just move to pausing everything at this point, or just dial up the weight on the backoff sets gradually until the weight gets challenging?

Cut going well, in other news, just in time for Switzerland. Bought a few boxes of Quest Bars just before the sale so I should be able to keep things reasonable while I'm there. We shall see.

Nice squats. More lower back movement in the paused squats tho imo.

Switzerland for business or pleasure? You hitting the slopes?

With the paused squats, you are slightly pitching forward when you shove out of the hole. I sometimes do the same thing and have to remind myself to move the weight up and down, not forward and back.

Are you intentionally shoving your hips back before you begin each rep?

Are you doing paused squats in warmups? I think that's where you will see the greatest benefit if you are going to do them on the same day as a normal workset.

Is that 125lbs? JFC.

ETA: squeeze your ass, don't stick it out backwards for the brace. You should look straighter, not more hyper extended after doing it. Cut the depth sooner. Still need to work on getting your knees further forward earlier in the movement (though cutting depth will also stop them from shooting forward so much).
