Pescatarians consume dairy and eggs.

A vegan diet is really not as hard most think it is.

Let's maybe work on not mainlining fried dough before we attempt the monumental task of becoming a vegan.

It's called mania. "I'm going to dramatically change my life next week, again, because of this thing I just read/saw/heard" is a symptom of serious mental issues that are being ignored. Being misinformed/conspired against is a lot more palatable than processing that you're failing at something. She'll be vegan for as long as she stopped smoking from that cessation guru.

I am, but I want to try something different diet wise that might help with my mental health. I've also read a few studies on gut bacteria and how it affects mental disorders. When I was young and eating really healthy with lots of fruits and vegetables, I didn't have bipolar episodes, wasn't suicidal, and didn't need medicine. Then, I ate processed **** for years and had a complete mental breakdown.

Sounds like a case of conflating correlation and causation. That's not to say you shouldn't alter your food habits.

MLYLT, find a new job immediately. Never talk to your new employers about your personal life unless it is necessary to apply for a reasonable accommodation, FMLA, etc.

What the Health is widely criticized even among vegans for some of its claims and pseudoscience.

That said, going vegan is great for the animals, the planet, and can be great for you too. I say "can be" because it's entirely possible to eat a lot of processed **** as a vegan, too. A steady diet of faux meats and non-dairy Ben and Jerry's isn't going to help with weight loss or mental health.

I'm not saying that you can't ever eat mock meats or ice cream, I occasionally do, but you'll feel better and be healther if you build your diet mainly around whole foods. Same principal as eating a diet that includes meat and dairy: if you eat things your grandmother would have recognized as food, you'll by and large be better off.

Feel free to pm me.

Also, cosign what everyone else said about talking to your boss about gambling. Please NEVER do this again.

You mean your grandma didn't subsist on pizza rolls and Wonder Bread fried bologna sandwiches?

I know you're joking, but I do have a sickening amount of privilege at the moment: I'm not working. So it's easy for me to cook things that take a little more time, like dried beans, etc.

What I don't have is money...so whole foods are time intensive, but cheaper. I applied for a job Wednesday, so I may eat a few more convenience foods if I get hired...

Also I'm older than a lot of posters here and my mother started having kids at 30...my grandmother was from the pre-pre-pizza roll era...

I am very pro vegan (despite eating a pound of meat a day) but it seems like a disastrous idea for an obese person attempting to lose weight. An absolute ****load of junk food is technically vegan, and I'd imagine being restricted to a tiny slice of the available food options isn't great for diet compliance. Add in the fact that most vegan diets have very poor macros.
09-15-2017 , 11:18 AM
I imagine most junk food contains at least one of: eggs, dairy, meat, gelatin. No?

List these vegan diets that have very poor macros.

It's hard to get enough protein and fats without really going out of your way, i.e. eating a ton of tofu and avocado. If you don't lift and are going for the RDA of protein it's not too bad, but I think someone like OP would eat like 400g carbs a day.
09-15-2017 , 12:04 PM
Nah, I asked for you to list these vegan diets that lack macros, not to list commonly held myths about vegan diets.
09-15-2017 , 12:05 PM
Vegan diets don't have enough tuna.

Cap’n Crunch with rice milk, toast with Becel vegan margarine and Smuckers Strawberry *Squeeze* jelly, chips and salsa, french fries, potatoe chips, Tofutti Cuties, and all the breads.

Super Fake Bacon Tofu Burger

Vegan mac & cheese.

I just googled it for ****s and giggles. I found a homemade one. One portion has 523 kcals, 23g fat, 13 protein and 67g carbs. Not a lot of protein for over 500 kcals.

I'm not going to go through the trouble of listing entire diets that vegans eat that have bad macros. I have a vegan friend who lifts and he struggles to get 2g/kg bw of protein without supplementation, especially if he wants to cut. I don't think it's a controversial opinion that vegan diets tend to be very high in carbohydrates and low in proteins and fats. Now it's a completely valid opinion that high carb diets are healthy and that none of what I'm saying is a big deal, especially for a non-lifter.

5000g of broccoli cooked in 1oz of olive oil:

Calories: 1950
Carb: 332g (oh noes...)
Fat: 47g
Protein: 141g
Fiber: 130g

Now a bloke with a shred of common sense can easily vary their diet and still hit their macros.

BTW, tell your vegan friend to stop getting his protein requirements from bodybuilding magazines from the 80's, pushing supplements.

Not sure what your point is exactly, but if you're not doing 100% broccoli and substituting some with other stuff that has similar ratios, you're still looking at 5kgs of food for 141g of protein. Eating 5kgs of anything in a day is hard.

lol QED.

Discussion of this is moot because mly is not really interested in becoming a vegan. She is impulsive and had this thought probably moments after watching a Netflix documentary filled with pseudoscience. She never follows through with anything.
09-15-2017 , 02:07 PM
Um, that's 11 lbs of broccoli.

I hope Beano is vegan.
