I was on mobile so I couldn't watch the video.

Yeah I've seen those smith machines that moved horizontal. I think rav did his squats on one in Thailand at the beginning of his log. The seat shifts a little at the start of the set so I assume it's a random bench someone dragged there.

On that one there is no seat, I just pulled a bench in there. A lot of the guys do their inclined bench and squats with it at my gym.

Wow, I have never seen such a machine. Is it just for hip thrusts? Makes sense as getting into position is probably the most challenging part.

I do hip thrusts and here are a few tips:
*You can go deeper
*You can add weight quickly--the proper weight will make you want to cry.
*Don't be afraid to add more padding like a rolled up yoga mat or towel to minimize bruising
*Refer to the muscle worked as "glutes" instead of "booty"
*Supersetting things like walking lunges and power cleans (light weight) help clear the burn and may help keep the glutes from turning into just a big wad of muscle that doesn't do anything
Thanks.

I watched some more videos online and this tiny 120lb girl was doing 285 and dropping her butt all the way to the ground and then holding and squeezing her butt at the top.

Lol at glutes vs booty

Wouldn't a big wad of muscle make my butt really rib and round?

I also watched some videos where the girls hyper round their backs holding a DB doing "back extensions" to use as less back muscles as possible and let the glutes do most of the work.

Correct. Weird apparatus. Would not recommend for squats. Could be ok for thrusts though.

I'm also going to do the seated squat thing using the same machine shown in this video at the 2:05 mark.

Yeah, you can just do that on the last rep of each set. When I was going to the college rec center, there was a hot track chick who did significant hip thrusts and the boys seemed unable to contain their enthusiasm.

Sigh...I guess so.

Not a fan in general, and gonna' especially advise against as someone still learning and internalizing proper squat form. Wait on these, imo.

I gotta imagine even a standard smith machine would be completely fine for hip thrusts, or any short-rom isolation movement for that matter (i.e. shrugs).

I'm getting epidural spine injections in my upper spine today and I'm terrified.

I even tried to do a natural birth to not have to get an epidural during labor because I was so scared. I ended up having to have one in the very end in case they had to do an emergency cesarean and I kept faking that my contractions were too bad for me to sit still and let them do it. It was so so scary.

I just called to verify that I would be sedated, but I'm still really nervous

One positive is that I haven't eaten for 13hrs, so today is forced fasting and I should be good on calories.

Why are you afraid of that? It's a pretty standard procedure.

Does your doctor know about your heavy lifting routines with poor form?

Never tried it, but I'd assume so.

Yeah, I've talked about my shoulder problem here and about my loving with the doctor. It's been burning since last January. All the MRIs and x-rays I got showed a very slight herniated disc, but a nerve being compressed is causing the pain. I got the steroid shots today to decrease the inflammation in the nerve. I'm going in January for more testing on the nerves in my shoulder to see if anything is damaged.

The lifting actually doesn't seem to aggravate it and face pulls seem to really help a lot. The pain is the worst when I'm just stagnant and sitting at my desk or driving.

And, there are lots of "Grow your Glutes!" Videos on YouTube with girls doing all kinds of things and having really nice round butts.

The girls just doing squats and deadlifts have really thick thighs and not so cute butts. And now I'm a little self conscious about my thighs and butt. I was showing some vids to Code3 and he made a comment about one of the girls having "thunder thighs" and that it wasn't attractive at all, then last month I gained " on my thighs instead of losing and with my thighs looking more muscular, my butt looks even flatter to me.

Sigh

Try to pay better attention to your posture at all times as well as your arm and elbow placement while sitting

I want gainz and a big round booty....why can't I have both

Probably your genes, Becky.

Hmm...I'm not really sure I can offer much insight here except; you're probably not going to re-shape your musculature significantly in the early stages of SS, and even if you do incorporating hip thrusts once per week should be plenty of glute development, and those other girls probably aren't even doing low-bar squats anyway (which already work your posterior chain much better).

What came first? The nice round butt or the stupid exercises?

You know what they have first and foremost? A consistent eating plan. Try that for about a year before adding in unnecessary exercises that will assuredly make little to no difference in your physique.

And yes, by consistent eating plan, I mean more than just hitting a calorie goal most days.

I don't think physique goals are very motivating for people early on in the iron game. Building muscle takes a LONG time, especially for a female, and most especially for a female that is trying to lose 100 pounds. Strength and bodyweight goals are way more motivating at your stage because they are short-term measurable and attainable.

I have calculated that I only gained 3.9lbs of lean mass over 21months from Jan 2016-Sep 2017. Believable and makes sense.

But, my bf % in Dec is now 37% which means a lean muscle gain of 19.35lbs from September 2017-December 2017.....there is just no way and I freaking gained an inch in my thighs and arms. Sept just happens to be when I started lifting heavy and started SS.

(I extrapolated my beginning fat% from my measured biometric fat % in October 2016 and Sept 2017.)
12-29-2017 , 03:39 PM
I want to go get one of those scans done so I can have an accurate bf%.
