It's a question of willpower. I would have fallen off the wagon regardless, but had I eaten a poverty bb-style diet, I likely would have lasted half as long. It takes way more willpower to eat what bodybuilders eat, and willpower is in short supply among the obese. Otherwise, they wouldn't be obese. MLYLT needs to spend her willpower wisely on the **** that matters most (such as eating less in general), while she builds long-term habits that will allow her to cultivate more of it. Then she can consider making more subtle improvements to what she eats.

You say you went clean for 8 months, but how long have you kept the weight off? IMO, 7 years or so is keeping the weight off. I've seen guys blow back up after 5 years, and 1-2 years is still a danger zone.

What's that defense mechanism where you convince yourself of something patently ridiculous in order to achieve a goal/survive trauma? Cognitive dissonance doesn't sound quite right but something like that. Anyway, since discovering that his head is almost all fat and he'll never be a natty under 10% body fat he has gone a little crazy.

I think you're projecting. I have no idea what will work for MLYLT, and agree she'll need to figure out what works for her, but to say that for most people "food is a pretty big part of what makes life worth living" is an overreach. For me variety is overrated; I have basically the same thing everyday for lunch and it doesn't bother me at all. Great tasting food is pleasurable but to me the difference between the best meal I ever had and one that is merely good is very small. While I am not at the extreme of "taste doesn't matter, it's only fuel just put it in your mouth" (I will not eat things I don't like) eating is mostly just something I do when I'm hungry.

The point is - everyone is different. It seems to me that MLYLT is the type of person that would benefit from a fairly rigid plan to start if she's serious (and make no mistake, she hasn't really started yet) and except for the very occasional treat (monthly?) not add anything in until she's dropped +100lbs. But again, she'll need to find her own way.

Changes to that diet that reduce the fast carbs, increase the protein, increase the micronutrients and fiber, etc., could then be applied gradually.
So you're saying do what I'm doing?

Lol everyone thinks they have the best way but who else besides me has the shredded glutes to back it up MLYLT learns to love herself and changes her life (for real this time!)

I don't follow the bet thread so I don't know what you do. But yeah, a flexible approach has a higher chance of success. It is possible to be too flexible, though.

You can check his log, but I think he's at least 4-5 yrs out from.

If you knew loco better, you'd know he's not getting fat again. It's about as much of a lock as can be.

MLYLT,

Looking forward to the last couple food logs! No lying please

Amazing food is amazing but what's amazing food? For obese, it's what comes out the drive through window at Popeye's.

Uh, Popeyes is great, you shut your whore mouth.
09-05-2016 , 01:33 PM
I think it's fair to say I was using Popeye's as a euphemism. Obv generalizing etc SHould have said many or a lot of obese not just Obese...

but yeah...I still think it stands...at least in the US...many obese people are eating a lot of super size, go large, whatever type food that tastes amazing to them. Look at what's served at most buffets....also throwing in chips, soda, ice cream, whatever...

All anecdotal of course.

As a euphemism for what?

Pretty sure she hasn't been logging anything, and we'll get a log of "to my best recollection" without that part being specifically stated.
