but then you are discounting his ability to manipulate weight to make the weight class just ahead of a meet

You usually want to stay at or about 5 lbs over the weight class and then cut down. Tends to be a better practice than going below the weight class.

I was kidding about KC ending his cut. He seemed very motivated to get to 175 and the reevaluate.

Yes, I will end the cut when the cut ends. Please end this aids discussion. Fat people talking weight classes itt.

i haven't logged the previous couple days, or the vegas trip. I didn't eat perfectly Tuesday and Weds but my cals were somewhere ~2400-2500 imo. But I finally had time to cook yesterday so it's all good now.

7/18
sleep: not enough
cardio: none
food: 2350 cals

Training:
Bench:
155x3x5
175x1

Pullups: 5, 3
v-handle chins: 3

90s rest between benches, probably a little longer on the last 2 sets. Only had 30 minutes. Everything felt pretty decent.

Calf is still a bit problematic.

7/19
sleep: solid 7
cardio: swimming at the beach
food: 2016 cals

training: did some KB snatches and then 60 1-arm swings with the 24kg bell before heading to the beach.

wish i went to bed earlier today but oh well.

Might need to keep cals low tomorrow. Sunday we're having a clam boil. clam boils are the best.

7/20

sleep: 8-9ish
food: 1800 cals right now. need to eat MOAR. i'm starving. but clam boil tomorrow. gonna eat like 5k cals.

training:
Bench:
155x1
165x1
175x1
185x1x2
175x3

Decent. Hips were crazy tight though.

DB Incline, BB Style: 40x10x3

kept these light cuz i fooled around with elbows out and non-neutral grip. easy.

Pendlay Rows: 145x5x3

easy

Chins (neutral grip): 5, 4, 4
supersetted with:
1-arm cable rows: 60x10x3

Face pulls: 70x15x2

ezBB curl: 55x31

Started off feeling easy but bottom fell out 20 reps.

Went to the beach right after this. Tossed the disk around and took a swim.

What exactly is a clam boil?
Kidcolin's log: back to basics (plus neck harness) Quote

just google it. pretty standard summer new england dish, especially this part of new england. basically a big pot of boiled clams, corn, hot dogs, potatoes, onions, sausage (around here it's always chourico/linguicia).. maybe mussels, spices, etc. It's just awesome.

and my neighbor is making these chicken wings which are out of this world. i'm gonna eat so damn much and zero ****s will be given.

ate 2060 cals today, which is under my typical 2300-2400 on lifting days.

not logging the food. It was a lot. I skipped breakfast, haven't really eaten since.

Had 10-12 of those chicken wings (they're insane)
probably 10ish clams
2 hot dogs (hot dogs from the clam boil are awesome)
1 sausage
few pieces of chourico
6-7 pieces of the marinated pork (on the skewers in that 4th pick)
half a potato (fish move)
half a slice of some meat filled bread (fish move)
bunch of the onions from the boil (sooo sweet)
2 beers
1/3rd of a root beer
ice coffee with 1 sugar and cream (come at me)
1/2 a malasadas (that fried dough in the last pic)

got home and basically went into diabetic shock after eating the malasadas and passed out on my couch for 20 minutes while watching Valhalla Rising (weird ass movie that I don't get at all).

Looks amazing. A friend of mine has a burner and a huge pot. We are already planning a clam boil.

that was just pot #1. there was another pot in the kitchen. we had so much food it was ridiculous.

I highly endorse using chorizo for at least some of the sausage. Italian sausage would probably also be good.

i actually just finished off the 2nd half of the malasadas and had a few pieces of pork. bed time now.

i'd say the day is still under 3k cals. not a disaster, and life isn't worth living if you can't put off weight loss for a day to enjoy good food with good people.

to the food porn.

I've had the pleasure of participating a clam boil once.
One summer, w/ a group of ppl we rented a villa in a coastal town in Croatia. Got friendly w/ locals living in the next house and one night they invited us to this clam boil party.

Huge-ass pot.
Clams, potatoes, onions, oil.
Mighta been some other ingredients as well.
My recollection isn't too vivid as it was a loooong time ago and copious amounts of alcohol beverages were consumed that night.
Good times.

That is something I miss about NE. I haven't had a good clam boil since I moved up here. Might have to look around for some clams up here, but it won't be the same. For sausage, pepperoni is pretty good in there too.

I disagree. Everyone I've ever talked to who has had to cut before competing says they feel weaker. I talked to my chiropractor about this as well. He used to be a world class wrestler. He won medals in two different Olympics as a light-heavyweight. He said he tried to stay very close to, or a little under his weight limit all the time and basically agrees with me, but he has a lot more experience and success with it.

KC - bench form looks pretty solid from what I can see in that last video.

I'm pretty sure your chiro is a huge exception, seems like virtually every other weight class athlete cuts water weight if they can get away with it. Unless you're Mayweather or Pacquiao fighting up a few weight classes, every boxer enters the ring significantly heavier than they weighed in at. Better to be fighting two weight classes lower even if it means you're at 95% strength levels instead of 100.

I was not aware of that. Interesting.

Professional boxers might be an extreme example, they weigh in the day before so they have plenty of time to rehydrate. Amateur athletes might be different, they fight a tournament so they probably have to weigh in the day of every fight, making it more taxing to cut. I know wrestlers in high school still cut even though they weighed in the afternoon of their meets, but I'm sure it wasn't anywhere near as aggressive as boxers, pretty much just fasted and maybe sweated a little after school to drop the final few pounds, not the 10-20 that boxers can take off and put on over the course of a few days.

I would say 5lbs would be the max to cut without feeling weaker for a 2 hour weigh in, at least for me. It definitely depends on the person.

I think we should be bringing this discussion back to beer, clams, linguica and other good Portuguese food so KC doesn't ban us all.

meh. Between vegas, not getting in good meals until weds, then the clam boil, not awful. But this is basically 3 weeks of stagnation. if this week doesn't show any progress we'll have to drop cals and I'll hate life even more.

Came home today ravenously hungry and tired. BETUS imo. took a nap instead. Didn't do any training.

Food: 1900 cals

I really need to focus on the mobbin'. My whole left side of my body is just a mess. especially my left leg. I'm lacking that INTERNAL ROTATION (I think it stems from when I pulled my groin way back when). tight hip flexz0rz. tight calf. foot issues. it's all connected. Need to make it a priority. brb playing fifa instead.

you know what, i did a little bike tire hip floss pre-workout tonight, and it felt pretty awesome. I didn't do all the wild stretches cuz I don't have anything in my swagpad to hook a band up to, but I just did some air squats, hip flexz0r stretches, leg swings. Hip felt awesome. I'll do this 2-3x a week.

7/23
Sleep: oddly woke up a bunch. 5 hours? But yet wasn't tired all day. weird.
cardio: lol
food: haven't added it up yet. Probably ~1900 now, I'll have some protein and fat before bed.

training:
Squat: 225x5x5 (9:47)
Bench: 140x3x8 (11:44)
Chins: 8 solid ass reps

That's all I had time for. Got to the gym 45 mins til close. Squats felt like squats tend to feel when you haven't squatted in a while. 5th set was pretty money. I tried breaking at the knees first and keeping the hip flexors engaged throughout for a couple sets. It was awkward. Kinda weird squatting when you've lost a ton of weight. I feel like I'm learning it all over again.

Bench felt pretty good but my left shoulder got a little fatigued. Didn't have time to do the internal rotation mobbing i usually do pre-bench workouts.

5x5 in under 10 minutes. How sick is that?

Weight was 187.2 pre-workout, so there's that. Got a shot at 185 by August, which puts sub-180 by labor day in the realm of possibilities. I don't have too many plans that should screw that up. We'll see.

By the way, I've decided fat re-feeds is a real thing. If you follow my type of diet (high protein, low fat), screw carb refeeds. Stick to fats. Ever since the clam boil, where I consumed copious amounts of fat, my body is hummin'. Getting very hungry before each meal. Metabolism is like EPOCx2.
