As a trainer myself, I can sadly confirm this is pretty true, especially if looking at commercial gyms. Your best bet may be looking for a trainer that has a CSCS certification (certified strength and conditioning specialist). They generally know their stuff much better than an average trainer. I'm studying for this exam right now and the material is much more in-depth and difficult than a PT exam. It might be difficult to find one however, i think there are only 20k people that have a CSCS while there are millions of trainers.

Great work on the weight loss btw, amazing consistency so far

Thanks Bees! If you don't mind, could you check out coachup.com and let me know what you think of the trainers that post there? I will look for someone with a CSCS certification. Had no idea that this existed, thank you.

I was talking to a woman at the gym last night who was disgruntled about her trainer experience. She said a great trainer took her through the free session and when she signed up she got a luddite that knew shiat. She was not happy. They wouldn't let her change trainers.

If you can get to Brookline, I'd recommend Tony Gentilcore. He's one of the best trainers in the country. http://tonygentilcore.com/products/p...coaching-core/

Wow quite a recommendation!

I'm having a little anxiety, assuming he'll think I look too non-muscly to be worthy of his time/expertise. Yes I know that's irrational. I'm going to ignore those thoughts.

Josie well done on your progress so far, it is very impressive! Would you be willing to post a before photo? I would understand if you don't want to.

Thanks Rexx!! I did post some body shots here (pg2) which were in Feb, before starting this log/joining the gym. So that's where this 2.0 version is starting.

Prior to that....yeah I could post a couple before shots. I haven't because people here can be unkind and they're um, drastic and sad.

But **** it, I will. If I get ridiculed for how I looked, I'll survive.

At the gym now but will post a before shot later.

Thanks for commenting!

Re: Josie 2.0

Long night. I left work a little early to visit my sister's bf who's been in the hospital for over a month and it's not looking good. She's with him daily but had to be elsewhere so I offered to stay w him, make sure he had dinner, was settled in for the night. By the time I got to the gym it was 9pm but I still got the full workout in, sans cardio. Place is open until 11pm and I closed that mother****er down!

Calories are low cuz I just didn't have time for a good dinner.

Calories 1012
Protein 84g
Fat 50g
Carbs 55g

I think I said that same thing a day or two ago in this log. I guess its good for OP to hear it from multiple sources.

These guys probably cost a ton. I would only pay top dollar if they are knowledgeable about OP's extremely arthritic knees.

I did not realize this! I looked back and you are correct. At the time, I did not click on Tony's personal link but the main one. Tony IS accessible.

Tony costs $150 per session, a la carte, which is not something I'd do long term.

You make a great point about being knowledgeable about arthritic knees. 2 years ago my orthopedic doctor said he was amazed that I was able to walk. That being said, I've been able to do every exercise in my notes without pain. This is really shocking to me. I keep expecting to wake up the next day hobbled but so far so ****ing good.

Makes me wonder if I can do a squat and whether or not doing squats, even if I'm able to, will do further damage.
