Well she's lost about 25 lbs in 2 years so yeah, moderate success. Hmmm she's a salsa dancer - dances 1-2 times per week.

Foodwise, she tries to make better choices but frankly eats too much fast food in addition to good food choices, but she tries and doesn't give up. I think that's why long term she's lost weight. She does small stuff but long term.

Also! She (like me) stopped drinking diet soda. I think I'm having an effect on her choices/diet as well. She'll sometimes omit the bread/carbs.

MLY reminds me of her.

Re: Josie 2.0

Tuesday's food log:

Slight improvement over Monday. Cals were 1313, protein over 100g and carbs under 100g. I'll take it.

I know I'm eating calorie dense food. (Cashews, trail mix, cheese, maybe pb) but that's just as I wean off sugar/bad carbs. In the past couple weeks I've had birthday cake (twice) cheesecake, anniversary cake, corn muffin, and some cookies! Not a ton of each mind you, but once it's in my system I just say yes more often. So anyway, that's the goal for this week; not necessarily to limit fat or calories, but to eliminate sugar and bad carbs.

Below is an example of bad carbs that I baked last week. This is a dark chocolate s'mores cheesecake.

Good ole chocolate cake, dark chocolate frosting, toasted coconut crumbles on top.

Anyway! Below is what I've packed for today's consumption. No cake, but chicken, brussel sprouts, turkey, cheese, apple and cantaloupe. Plus I always have cashews at my desk.

#****sugar cuz sugar ****s w you and your body.

Cool cakes! I wonder how do you get the sides of the cakes so smooth with frosting. Every time I try this my edges get completely uneven.

Do you bake the cake base yourself or do you buy them and then decorate?

I bake them all myself.

Smooth frosting - I have a big spatula that I use, as well as a turn table so big swift movements. You could do a crumb coat first (a thin layer of frosting that holds the crumbs flat) and then do a layer of frosting, but I didn't do that here.

Wednesday food log:

Did well yesterday.

Protein 121g
Fat 56g
Carbs 88g

I went to the gym last night and busted out 50 min on the treadmill. 6.0 incline 3mph.

I'm going to the movies tonight to see It and I'm having some greasy salty movie popcorn. Josie 2.0 but no sugary candy.

Re: Josie 2.0

I just realized I didn't mention Wednesday's exercise.

Wednesday:
Treadmill; 50 min, 6.0 incline, 3mph
sweaty,sweaty, sweaty

Pushups, planks, warrior poses, suspended leg raises

Thursday:
Walked 20 min, twice

Thursday nutrition:
Protein 63g
Fat 51g
Carbs 89g

Yeah, I know. What happened was I went to the movies after work and had movie popcorn for dinner. It was glorious...until I started feeling sick from all the salt and butter, but that didn't stop me! I finished it like a champ.

We went to see It! I dunno, it was meh, I guess. I loved the book, which scared the crap out of me but it horror movies just aren't my thing. The Dark Tower was still playing at the theater and I wish I had gone to see that!

I went with my sister and her friend. It was the friend's bday (yeah another ****ing bday and no I did not make or eat cake) so she got to pick the movie. She LOVES scary movies. Specifically she loves to scream and talk to the screen during scary movies fml. It was 2 hours of "No, no, no!" "don't do that!" "Get out of there, don't be stupid!" Nooooo" "Ahhhhhh!!!!"

It was good, but it was so.....rote. Every kid had a near miss with Pennywise, rinse and repeat 6 times. However, the child actors were great, I'll give them that.

Cuz I went the movies there was no gym visit last night, sooooo I took a long walk this morning (which ended up at Dunkin, natch!) and I have 4,000 steps logged in for the day already, and I've been sitting on my ass for the last 2 hours. Yay me!

And because it's Friday, I'm on the usual horns of a dilemma - poker tonight, or be a big girl and work out, clean my house, etc.

Yeah, prolly poker.

PS You won't believe what happened at the movies last night! I have my bag of greasy salty carbs, plus a dunkin cold brew, plus a gift for the bday girl, plus a jacket, and my phone all in my hands. As soon as I start to walk up the steps to my seat, the iced coffee slips and I drop it, making a stupendous mess.

Previews are flashing, I have my salty popcorn that I've been fantasizing about all day and nothing to drink. I rush back to the long refreshment line and contemplate my options. No iced coffee. No HOT coffee. What the actual ****. Yes, they sell water but I am having a treat here folks and $5.00 water just doesn't look good to me at the moment.

I'll tell you what does. Diet-****ing-coke, in a cup with loads of ice. OMFG The drink of the Gods. Fine there's no science proving it's addictive. Fine. My body tells me otherwise. Haven't had a sip in 2 years yet it's still appealing, like that ex-lover who you know is incredible, but you aren't going there regardless. Tempting but no.

Ack, I look at the options. I know this may sound ****ing stupid to you (and it gets stupider) but it was important to me.

They have that vitamin water zero shiat, which isn't bad, but it's just too too sweet for me. I like it cut with water, like 50/50 at the most. I get the $5 water and the $5 vitamin water zero stuff, and then it gets wild and crazy.

I ask for a cup of ice.

There's no other way to get my 50/50 mix, without a cup. Plus the ice makes it so much better for me.

He hands me one of those micro small cups, literally about 1.5 inches high, with a couple ice cubes in it. I explain I need a big cup to make my mix.

Apparently, one can't get a cup without paying for it. Whatever biatches, I'll pay for the cup. How much? 50 cents? $1?

No.

I had to pay the same amount as though there was soda in it; $5.75.

So yeah, I had a $16 drink at the movies last night.

I'm like fine, ring it the **** up, I have a movie to see.

As I'm leaving the manager asks me if everything was fine. Really biatch?

I tell him my movie is starting but I feel a little ass-raped that I had to pay $5.75 for a cup.

Yes, those were my exact words. Thank you 2+2 and Howard Beale!

Manager is slightly taken aback by my response. I explain my 50/50 mixture dilemma but then reassure him, it's fine because I don't want to miss the beginning of IT.

Sooooo....I get back to the seats, loaded with my beverages, yes my frugal sister thinks I'm nuts. I get settled in just before the movie starts, with drink, with popcorn...it's all good.

And the manager finds me and hands me a gift card for the refreshments! Heh.

PPS - Sister thinks that every single man that meets me falls in love with me. Not true but she spouts this theory often enough. As soon as he leaves, she's like "Only you Josie."

I believe your sister is right. If you are half like you are here in RL you have very attractive personality.

I wonder, do you remember your first coke/diet coke?

My theory is that we all are hooked-up on food/drinks we tried as a child.

Ha, yes it's def the personality, which is quite the same, esp at the felt.

I completely agree with your theory about foods and childhood. I have many favorite foods that would fall into that category. When I was little (5-7 years old) every afternoon in the summer my mother would send me to the garden to deliver a coffee and cookies to my grandfather. (my grandfather would work the garden from dawn to dusk every summer day.) Anyway, the best part is Nonno would always share his cookies with me and Nonno's favorite cookies were a vanilla version of oreos. mmmmm nothing tasted better than sharing that snack with him under his grape trellis, in the shade.

I still love those cookies. The more that I think about it, Nonno would let me have a taste of his coffee too. You know how I feel about coffee.

But to your question!

I don't remember the FIRST time I had soda, but I do remember that growing up it was only for special occasions or Sunday dinner. Otherwise it was water, Kool-Aid or Tang.

That was around the time Nonno taught me to play Sette Mezzo; which means 7 1/2. Game was played with Italian cards, which go up to seven, plus the picture cards, which were worth 1/2. The game is similar to black jack with the goal being getting closest to 7 1/2 without going over.

We played for pennies and I mean it when I say I crushed that game! Repeatedly. Sister wasn't interested in playing much but I was. I was one of the younger grandchildren and I loved hauling home my pile of pennies.

Reading your post about the siren song of Diet Coke made me feel guilty about raving re: soda's blissfulness yesterday.

And of course he fell in love with you, you brought up anal the first time you ever spoke to him...

Nooooooo, I'm free from it's hold on me, though I always felt the same way as you did about soda's blissfulness. Truly all I wanted was my iced coffee but that was not to be.

Ha, very good point! Might have to work ass-rape into the conversation at the felt tonight.

If It disappointed you, you should be very glad you didn't see The Dark Tower. I haven't seen It yet, going tomorrow, but no way it can be as bad as TDT is. It's sad, that's my favorite series. I've read it countless times. You can tell King hates it too by the way he suddenly went silent on it in his twitter/facebook feeds.

The dark tower is hands down my fave SK series too. I think I didn't rush out to see it cuz I read that Susannah and Eddie (as well as that whole time) wasn't in it. I'm home doing nothing on a Saturday night. I should go see it.

It seemed like it was made for a teenage demographic, but let me know what u think.

Dunno if you watch the series Stranger Things. It's on NetFlix. It's set in the 80s, reminiscent of SK and really well done.

I liked It. It's not one of the rarities where you can say it lived up to the book, but it was enjoyable and I'll go see the next one. I went with my sister and her husband. He has never read the book so it was interesting to quiz him about it afterwards and confirm that it probably isn't a very good movie if you haven't read the book.

Yeah, they were my downfall after no sugar all week. Son home was just a dumb excuse. At least he took the rest of them back to school with him.

Speaking of dumb excuses I have a new gas range and I had to try out the oven!
