Got out and finished my lifting for the week. Not sure all the exact science and methodology when doing a de-load but from my research I did pretty close to recommendations and it def felt like it was heavy enough to get a decent workout in but light enough where it was essentially just active recovery. So I should be in a good spot to push forward with heavy stuff to finish out the year. Here is what my workout today looked like:

Squat 245x8
Squat 225x8
Squat 205x8
Squat 185x8
HBBS 185x8
FS 135x8

Bench 155x8

And now for the 2nd round. There were 6 (yikes) people on my card total, and I had a 3 stroke lead over 2nd place. My buddy shot a 2 over and said he was confident based on talking to other players he would be on the lead card with me. He was right, despite being 5 strokes behind me. And actually he had the biggest chance to come back and tie/beat me out of the players on the card so I was glad he was so far behind.

Front 9:

11. There’s actually 2 different tee-pads on this hole and we only play the tougher one, this round they it was set up to play the easier tee-pad although the basket was in a really tough spot. The best play here to look at a 2 is just to throw a flex forehand shot down the middle and then have it skip back toward the basket. But I wasn’t feeling any confidence in it so I threw my under-stable mid-range on a pretty similar line that I threw on the first round. The shot was very average, but it ended up being the best on the card and it was an easy pitch-up and tap-in. My buddy hit a crazy putt to save par and a few others hit bogey so I felt alright.

12. This hole I used to own by throwing a straight flying fairway driver on a frozen rope right at the basket. It’s not exactly a tunnel shot, but it plays like it and any other lines can work but really have to get lucky to avoid any trees. But I’ve gotten away from the fairway driver and I can certainly reach it with a mid range if I execute it correctly. But I rolled it over a bit, it checked up short and I had to make another half run, half lay up to tap in par. Everyone else hit par or worse on the hole.

13. This is a tough pin location to birdie with an extremely well protected basket. The play I think is to throw it long and wide and have a nice skip and avoid the trees to have any look. The most important thing is to just hit the gap off the pad which someone invariably does not. I threw my shot and the leaves and glass just completely ate up any kind of skip it might have had. It was pin high but pretty far out of position. My only real shot up was to lightly flick a fast over-stable driver on a flex and I didn’t do it very well and left myself a little bit further than a tap in par but I made the putt anyway and I think everyone on the card took a 3 as well.

14. I kind of screwed this one up. I still had the honors and was sort of chatting while the card in front of us was finishing up. I was holding the disc I was planning on throwing but as I was getting ready to throw I realized that the pin was, obviously, in a different place. Totally forgot. So I rushed back and swapped discs. Instead of a straight tunnel shot, it’s flex forehand shot with a stable disc or a hyzer flip with a slower disc that fades right at the end. The later is probably the better play but I don’t have that dialed in yet. I screwed it up anyway, rolled my wrist over, and threw it left into the bushes. Luckily I’ve practiced so many of these rescue shots I pitched up my over-stable mid-range on a flex, weaved it through the trees and parked it for a tap in par. My buddy ended up hitting a crazy laser beam putt through the bushes to birdie so I lost honors finally.

15. This hole is really interesting when the pin location in this particular spot. I’m a big fan of this hole in theory because there is a very nice risk/reward combo that comes into play and you can still take the safe play as long as your short game is good. It’s a pretty simple hyzer tee shot that can be reached off the tee with an average mid-range drive. However, there is a big square that surrounds the basket that is OB inside, and then a small square inside the big square where the basket is that is safe. So off the tee you can make a run and try to spike it in the safe square. If you pull that off you will have a tap in birdie. If you miss, there is a drop zone that sets up for a very tough putt because of all the OB. In my opinion the best play is to lay it up short and safe and do a drop putt from the outside and make a half run at birdie. I ended up doing that, my half run was super weak but it was safe. 1 player made his putt, 2 others bogey’d and we moved to the next hole.

16. Another hole I wish I had my straight fairway driver dialed in. There’s all sorts of ways to get the disc down here for this shot but the best is just a straight line at it and take all the trees out of play. I ended up throwing my thunderbird pretty hard on a slight any-hyzer but it went a little deep and a little to the left and I missed the tricky comeback putt. This was actually a movement where the closest opponent to my score had a relatively easy putt and bricked it off the basket. I think he felt like he could get a stroke and just left it short.

17. This hole was sort of a disaster. I’ve birdied this pin location one time in my life and it was a pretty lucky shot that just got through all the trees. Other than that it’s extremely tough and one that I didn’t practice for and when I walked up to it didn’t even know what shot to throw, all I knew is that I needed to play the hole for 3. Trying to figure out what to throw, I knew that I needed to hit the gap about 150’ off the tee. If I could get past the trees there, I would have an upshot that would be manageable in most spots, although still tough depending on the lie. I debated throwing a tomahawk for a while just to get up and over the tress but I chickened out and decided to try and throw a turnover putter shot. Well I didn’t commit to the shot and sawed it off. It left me in a terrible spot. My best play was probably a forehand roller out and up the hill but leaving a shot to the bumps of the ground wasn’t really what I wanted. I tried to throw my over-stable midrange hard on a skip shot but my position was so terrible is checked up short and I left myself a long weird low flex ceiling spin putt to save par. I almost made it but didn’t quite get the line right and left myself a tap in 4. The reason it wasn’t a disaster was because everyone else on the card took a 4 as well so as long as someone on another card wasn’t making some crazy giant comeback I didn’t lose any strokes.

18. This pin location this time was a little bit easier than the last round, but not by much. It’s probably 20’ closer to the pad with essentially identical tee shots and makes most upshots a bit easier. I ended up taking my mid-range and throwing it on an anhyzer but didn’t throw it hard enough and nearly went out of bounds on the left. I actually thought there was a reasonable chance I had gone out but my card mates assured me it was safe and sure enough it actually ended up being a pretty nice shot from the perspective of playing the hole for 3. I could have really thrown it hard and left myself a long uphill tunnel shot putt for an outside chance at 2 but I played within myself, used my Firebird to forehand it up and in for a tap in 3.

1. This basket was moved to the easiest pin location available, at least for my skill set. The important thing here, as always, is to hit the gap off the pad. I walked up, lined up my Harp and laced right to the basket and hit the bottom of the pole for a tap in 2. A couple other card mates took 2 as well and we rolled on to the next hole.

I used on of my 2 free days yesterday. But yuck yesterday was the most miserable day in a while. Oh well. I'll finish the year strong.

Here's my final 9 right up.

2. This pin location is actually a pin location that tortured me for a while and a few months ago I came out determined to figure out how to birdie it. There’s a pretty tight gap right off the tee, then a bunch of trees and then the basket is down the hill to the left behind a big tree. In theory, the best play is to throw something over-stable on a low flat line, hit the gap, get past on the trees and get a big skip down the hill, but I really couldn’t get it to ever do that in practice. I’ve gotten a little bit better on those shots lately but back then I just couldn’t do it. I did figure out tho that there is a pretty good forehand roller line and if executed properly will hit the gap, get past the trees and roll down the hill. I was able to so it about 1/2 the time in practice. So I tried that shot, thought I threw it pretty well but it got snagged on a tree pretty early. I had a tiny window for an anyhyzer putt and almost drained it but surprising to me, half the card shot a 2 and I didn’t. But the guy closest to my score shot a 3 so I wasn’t too worried.

3. This is actually a pretty new pin location for the course, but it’s the pin that has been there for quite a while so I’ve had lots of practice. The only downside is that its forehand drive and like I’ve mentioned, I just didn’t have it dialed it. I’ve reached this with a turnover putter in practice but it’s super touchy and with lots of OB right and long I didn’t want to even try it. My goal was to throw it safe, leave myself at least some putt and chance of a 2. Well I nailed the drive, basically put it under the basket for a pretty easy 2. I should mention that my buddy who I thought was the biggest threat to beat me tapped in his 2 for his third birdie in a row.

4. This hole is crazy. I’ve actually never birdied this pin location in a round or in practice, although I’ve had plenty of looks. It’s all OB right of the pad. Then the basket is about 430’ away with an OB road about 380’ off the tee. I can get over the road, and when the basket is here I always go for it when playing competitive rounds with friend. It’s actually kind of hard to end up in the road because if you throw far enough to reach it and land on it you can usually get a nice skip off of it and go farther. The biggest danger really is just crushing a shot and having it go OB right because with the drop zone it takes a nice upshot to save a 4. If I was needing strokes I would probably gamble and try and get the 2 but with a lead and the knowledge that proabably nobody else on my card had a shot at a 2 I decide to play it safely. I crushed my PD2 hard down the right side, it carried over the OB most of the flight and spiked in bound about 100’ short of the basket. I did a little nose up flex shot with my buzzz OS and left myself a nice easy putt for 3. I think 3 of my card mates went OB on the hole, including my buddy who actually had the misfortune of landing on the OB road.

5. Yuck, this hole. Pretty much identical to the first round the basket was moved maybe 10’ to the right and it plays the same. Tough island hole and you have to commit to the putter shot. I was back to first on the pad and just botched my drive pretty bad. It went OB long and I was forced to go to the drop zone. I didn’t even practice this shot, I figured it would be easy or I wouldn’t need to do it, that was a bad idea. I took my Sinus and tried to flex it toward the basket but botched that too and almost went OB long again. Thankfully it checked up shot and I saved my 4, but it was a pretty bad hole.

6. This hole is pretty easy for someone who can throw about 330’ with a forehand reliably. Unfortunately, that isn’t me. I honestly should have just throw a midrange backhand nice and hard but that’s essentially 0% chance at getting a 2. I’ve reached this plenty of times for a look at 2 when I had my forehand dialed in, and if I throw it correctly it should be a chance at 2 or an easy 3. But I really wiffed this one. I think I figured out what happened. The entire right side of the hole is thick dense shrubs and essentially OB if you go in so I wanted to make sure to keep it wide left. Instead of trying to hyper flip a forehand shot which takes more finesse, I decided to forehand flex an avertable disc, which is what I usually do anyway. But I rolled my wrist way too much, which I’ve been prone to do lately and just threw it right into the ground. This left me a standstill forehand up shot which I actually am a lot better at. But I over-shot it by a lot and missed the comeback putt and carded a 4. My buddy had a decent look for 2 off his drive but missed so i only lost 1 stroke to him and the guy in 2nd actually threw his drive into the shrubs and took a 5 so managed to actually gain a stroke on him.

7. One of the harder holes out here, I’ve only birdied it one time in practice and it was on a nice lucky backhand roller. About 350’ off the tee there is a mando and the whole left side of the hole is OB. The play for me is just get it down as far as I can without being out of position. The mando really makes the drive placement important because if you’re too far back to the right you’ll have no chance at making the mando or saving par. But I executed my drive well enough, although leaving it a little short. Left myself another standstill forehand upshot and actually nailed it this time and left myself a tap in par. My buddy also had a tap in 3 and everyone else took a 4 or worse.

8. This is where the darkness started to overtake the course. There was a backup on this hole and by the time it was my turn to throw the sun was all the way down and it was peak darkness. What a crazy hole for this to happen on, too. There is a huge tree right off the tee pad with a mando left this time. There is an OB pit right behind it and then the basket is straight ahead past all that about 250’. We had enough light with our cell phone flashlights to see the tree and I knew where the pin was so for me it was just about getting my body lined up and executed the shot with a Buzzz SS and committing to it. And man I crushed it. Straight line through the mando, over the pit down by the basket. I’m pretty confident I would have birdied if it was light out but putting in that much darkness is so tough and I didn’t make it. Nobody else got close to shooting a 2 so I was pretty happy with the outcome.

9. This hole was so close to being a complete disaster. It’s pretty straight-forward, you just have to throw a big hyzer, execute the shot to leave yourself a forehand upshot and then make the par. Well I got the drive right and then threw the disc a little too far on the upshot. It dove right into a bush and there were 8 of us looking for it. I don’t even know how somebody found it it was extremely lucky. Losing a disc and taking a lost disc penalty would have been crushing this late in the tournament. But we found it, I might have made the put in the light but no chance in the dark so I ended up taking a 4 like most everyone else. My buddy actually took a 6 after 3 frustrating shots to get clear of the mando. Just darkness is so brutal.

10. Final hole. With the way this works theres a few options. I think the safest play is to throw a monster hyzer forehand up and clear the tree and hope it flies far enough and fades enough to get a look at 2. The high risk/high reward play is a low flex forehand through the trees. It’s a tiny gap but if you hit it you’ll likely have a nice look at a 2. If you miss it’s a pretty tough spot to be in, especially in the dark. I actually crushes my forehand shot as well as I could, but I missed the putt, probably was about 40. To my surprise, 3 other card mates took a 2 in a great finish. But it wasn’t enough to knock me off the lead so I finished 1st.

Strange. I never got on board with the Tapatalk I'm still doing it through mobile browser.

Got out and lifted today. Pretty solid session after the de-load. Although I realized I was perfectly on pace to run this 9 week program I have been borrowing from. I can still kinda do it, I just started out a little heavy for it to be the first week. Anyway, here is what today looked like:

Squat 295x8
Squat 265x8 (x2)
Squat 225x8

Bench 170x8
Bench 155x8 (x2)
Bench 135x8 (paused)

Dumbbell flyes 40x8
Barbell rows 115x8
Dumbbell curls 40x8

I really want to fix my imbalance and asymmetry with my squats so I took a video of my heavy set, it will be uploaded shortly. There is some improvement from my last one but it's still pretty bad. The rest was pretty easy.

Off to practice some disc golf, Gotta get better from.

Another day of lifting today. Was weird. Here is what I did:

DL 315x8
RDL 225x8
Speed DL 225x8
Right leg DL 135x8
Left leg DL 135x8

Bench 165x8
Bench 145x8
Narrow grip bench 145x8
Wide grip bench 145x8

Skull crushers 50x8
Hammer curls 35x8
Forearm curls 35x8

I tried to do a pretty easy set to start the DL session but 315x8 felt almost like a max. I'm probably training this too hard and will back off a bunch over the next couple months to hopefully pull a monster in February. Bench was ok but my right arm is flared up a little again. Hopefully I didn't make it worse.

Off to practice some disc golf.

Didn't sleep well last night, pretty restless. Got up and played some disc golf, made a bunch of really nice long putts in an otherwise forgettable round and won some money winning by 1 stroke. Usually I would come home and go back to bed but I have to get the lifting done. Really unmotivated so I took some caffeine and decided to power through everything and superset all my sets and see how fast I could finish it. Took me right about 45 minutes to do all this:

Squat 275x8
Incline dumbbell 35x8
Squat 275x8
Incline dumbbell bench 40x8
Squat 275x8
Incline dumbbell bench 45x8
Squat 225x8

Bleh, last week ended up being pretty tough week. This week is going to be weird, too so I'm just doing some 'get back after it' type stuff. I'm switching to HBBS for a few reasons so that's all I did today:

HBBS 245x5x5

A couple more workouts tomorrow and then next week I'll be starting a program that'll last around 2 months. Life is good, WIM

I did more boring workout stuff just to keep off the DOMS and hit my requirements, forgot to update. Started a 6 week program that I hope to be able to stick to, health willing. Pretty simple, here is what I did today:

HBBS 275x5
HBBS 260x5
HBBS 245x5

Bench 175x5
Bench 170x5
Bench 160x5

Gonna run this as long as I stay healthy. I have a chiropractor apt on Thursday so hopefully I can get my back in alignment and get some symmetry back into my lifting. Although I think it’ll take a few sessions and some massages to get back to the healthy level I need to be at.

Another workout today. Still trying to figure out the the best order of lifting each week to get the most out of it, I think I'm getting it dialed. Here is what today looked like:

DL 315x5
DL 345x2

Bench 157.5x5x5

The set of 2 DL was actually easier than the set of 5. I guess that could make sense. And of course the bench was easy.

Well I'm starting my cut early. Since my back isn't 100% and I'll be lifting a bit lighter until I get back healthy, there's not point in the calorie surplus. Here was my workout today:

Squat 235 for 3 sets of 5 reps (1.25xBW)
Bench 187.5 for 3 sets of 5 reps (1xBW)
Hang Clean 140 for 3 sets of 3 reps (0.75xBW)

Box Jumps BWx10
Shock Jumps BWx10

Getting better form. It's a lot better than it used to be but still needs improvement. It'll come as my back gets healthier.

Ate a can of chicken breast post workout.

Trying a new preworkout it's good so far. Didn't make me as crazy as I thought but my hunger is non existent.

Hahahaha. No but I love it.

Another solid workout today. Here is what I did:

Deadlift 325 for 1 set of 5 reps (1.75xBW)
DB Bench 50 for 3 sets of 10 reps
Hang Snatch 95 for 3 sets of 3 reps (0.5xBW)
Squat jumps BW for 2 sets of 5 reps

Pretty good stuff. The hang snatches are weird. Not sure if I've ever done more than a handful of these ever. Just gotta commit to it. It's super light so that helps. Maybe I'll upload a form check next week. The DL felt kinda heavy but watching the tape back it looked easy. Shrug.

BW 185.2 today.

Forgot to update the rest of my lifting. Here is what I did to finish it off:

FS 140 for 3 sets of 3 reps (0.75xBW)
Bench Press 185 For 3 sets of 5 reps (BW)
Hang Clean 140 for 3 sets of 3 reps (0.75xBW)
Frog Jumps BWx10
1 step Max Jumps BWx10

Getting better at racking the FS. If I can really figure out how to FS without hurting my wrists/shoulders I should be able to up this weight quite a bit going forward.

Today's BW: 182.3

Missed my goal by 0.3 but I'm ok with it. I'm hoping to lose 5/5/4/3 these 4 weeks. Should be doable if I cut out the extra sodium the final week. Well the final week is sort of a half week so it might be close.

Now I'm off to lift again today.
