Wow just noticed my sodium for today. Had two smoked chicken Andouille sausages and they had 1000 mg each. I don't eat too much processed food, but it's immediately noticeable in the sodium numbers when I do.

Exercise

Walked 3.7 miles of easy trail in about 60 minutes.

I'm halfway through the first planned 12 week period and things are going along about as expected. I need to average 1.4 pounds per week loss over the next 6 weeks to end this part of my plan on target. Still slacking on kettlebell training.

My ski season is done until they open the auto road on Mount Washington because I'm not fit enough to skin/hike all the way up there under my own power and actually enjoy it.

Awesome thread, man!

Read the entire thread and its very motivational. Was gonna give you feedback about needing more veggies, especially the dark greens, but you seem to be making that adjustment. The smoothies can also help when your schedule gets crazy again and maybe help with how you plan your evening meals.

I'm 41 and about 40lbs heavier than I need to be. Gonna start with your basic plan and go from there. Won't have any skiing as I am in south Texas and that ain't an option. Might try the kettle balls too. When I've lifted regularly in the past I have always included cleans, jerks, and presses and its definitely the most bang for your buck.

Also, don't drink american beers! Lol. Also, don't beat yourself up when you have a few extras. With more opportunities to hike you will be able to offset the difference in calories. You also deserve some psychological rewards for being so disciplined.

Keep up the good work! Will keep checking in and let you know if I stumble on anything to help.

Thanks man!

Why not drink American beers? The U.S. probably has more great beer available than anywhere in the world right now. U.S. micro and nano brewers have even inspired the resurgence of nearly lost styles (Gose, Saison, Vienna lager, etc.) and also created a bunch of new styles.

Unless you meant don't drink Budweiser and the like. Which I don't usually unless it's the only thing available. And even those beers are very well brewed for what they are, they are just rather boring to me.

Oh also a note about the smoothies: They are really helping a lot. I usually have 2 per day now.

I usually do something like this:

- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk or coconut water
- 2 oz kale, spinach, or romaine lettuce
- 3 oz frozen pineapple or mango
- 2 oz frozen raspberries, blackberries, or blueberries
- Half a banana or half an avocado (unless my calories are already too high for the day)
- 1 scoop protein powder or 186 grams egg whites or 100 grams Greek yogurt (unless I don't need the protein that day)
- 4 grams fiber supplement (unless I don't need the fiber that day)

What I've found is now for lunch and dinner I can usually simplify with some kind of protein source and one veggie and still have a balanced diet. And I have the shakes between breakfast and lunch, and then between lunch and dinner. They keep me from getting hungry between meals.

CactusJack I just realized you were probably talking about my comments prior to Saint P's day that I might drink light American beers instead of microbrews. I couldn't do it and went for the good stuff!

Kind of low on the calories today but with a late dinner I'm just going to roll with it instead of trying to eat more. Plus I've been over my target all week anyway.

This week is going to be tough as I start my hardest term with 3 classes (supposed to be 60 hour/week commitment) and have my daughter home for April vacation all week. My only goals are to maintain logging and hit my calorie and protein targets. If I get any exercise it will be a bonus.

Ok, today I will eat.

Took my daughter to Fenway for her first game last night and had saved enough calories for a footlong hotdog and a couple of beers. Guess I haven't been for a while, but when I saw the crappy beers were $9 I decided to skip them. Not sure why I didn't get the hotdog, but wasn't hungry until late at night.
