Hi everyone, I'm starting to try to lose weight and thought it would be a good idea to start a log on 2p2 so people can give me hell if I start to slack or offer words of encouragement/advice/constructive criticism.

Backstory

In high school I was at an all time low of around 170lbs - 180lbs, with barely any muscle. I ended high school around 190lbs. I am 6 foot tall. When college started the weight pounded on. Too many Taco Bell runs, and too many beers. Long story short, at the end of my 4 years in college, I weighed about 262 lbs. Nearly all of this is/was pure fat. If you saw me, you would probably think I weighed close to 300 lbs. I've seen pictures of people on here who have a starting weight of around 290-300lbs and are the same height as me, and my belly looks bigger than theirs.

Why I want to lose weight

I'm starting graduate school now, and I am getting married in less than a year. A date has not been set yet, but a general time frame has. For the purpose of this thread, let's say that I have about 9 months to lose the weight - I want to look damn good in my tuxedo. Let's say my goal weight is 200 lbs. I would be happy with 200 lbs, but if I reach 200lbs before 9 months I am not going to stop.

Another reason is that I just want to be healthier and live a healthier life style. I believe if I eat right and exercise I will feel better about myself and live generally a happy and longer life.

My starting weight

My starting weight is 262lbs, with a body fat percentage of ~ 35.5%, 6'0". I started a week ago, Wednesday August 10th.

Exercise

I have a pair of adjustable dumb bells that can go up to 20lbs each, or 40lbs on one dumb bell. As of right now however, all of my exercise has been done on a "treadclimber" that I have, the Mobia by Nautilus.

I'll try to update this thread daily, but for now I will just post my a brief summary of my first week. I wanted to want to wait a week before I started this thread. Now that a week has passed I know I have the ability to continue on in my journey! I will not give up!

Week 1

Day 1: 262 pounds, 35.5% body fat - Mobia for 30 minutes, burned 350 calories
Day 2: 260.4 - Mobia for 30 minutes, burned 350 calories

Day 4: 258.6 - Mobia for 30 minutes, burned 350 calories
Day 5: 258 - Mobia for 30 minutes, burned 350 calories
Day 6: 255.8 - Mobia for 30 minutes, burned 350 calories
Day 7: 256.8, 32% - Mobia for 60 minutes, burned 700 calories

Here is what I ate on 2 select days of this past week, breaks in the food log indicate more than 2 hours between eating :

I felt excellent today after my normal 30 minutes on the mobia, and decided to go 30 more minutes. Although I gained a pound today even after a 'double' workout I know that weight fluctuates a lot and as long as my trend line keeps going down I am happy - big picture! Since I have been going a week now I will probably bump up the intensity of my normal 30 minutes, and try to slowly progress. This week I did everything at resistance 6 and speed 1.5mph, will probably do res 6, speed 1.7 mph for this next week.

I'm really enjoying this so far, and feel better right now than I have in 4 years. This is going to be an awesome ride.

Went 60 minutes on the Mobia again today. Watched True Blood S01E01 so maybe I can keep up the 60 minute workouts and just watch an episode per workout. Though I think I may start alternating 60 minute days and 30 minute days, and on the 30 minute days do dumb bell exercises at this link: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/rudy6.htm, all but the biceps and triceps ones.

Not the best day food wise. Fiancee's mom is in town and we ate "out" a lot, Chipotle and Applebees in the same day! Yikes! I tried my best to research best foods to eat at this places and minimize calories. The main problem is sodium. I ended up consuming 2.7g of sodium today which is not very good. Also I ran out of tuna and turkey so I had a less protein than normal.

Went with vegetarian bowl at Chipotle, no guac, no sour cream, no cheese. Went with the healthiest sauces and loaded up on veggies. For Applebees I ate off their "550 calories" or less menu. Apparently the steak dinner I got with roasted potatoes and broccoli was under 400 calories total. I had already had my yogurt and blueberries by time they wanted to go out so I ended up eating only the brocoli and about half the steak + a few potatoes. Saved the other half and will eat it tomorrow.

Going to the grocery store tomorrow to buy some more tuna and turkey, does anyone have any recommendations for some solid diet staples I could purchase tomorrow?

Great job so far, keep at it! Would be a good idea to drop the cereals at breakfast and a some protein for example eggs, Greek yogurt, and Cottage cheese. Also dinner time suggestions. Chicken breast, (You can buy these in bulk in the frozen section) Turkey, sirloin, Green and red peppers go great with the chicken and steak, spinach, cucumbers, apples, blueberries. And on the supplement side I would get some Fishoil, decent multi, and maybe some whey protein if your having problems getting your protein just from food.

^^^ Thanks! When I was at the store today I picked up some eggs, cottage cheese, low fat yogurt, frozen chicken breast and tilapia. I have some granny smith apples I justs need to eat them more often. Now that I start classes tomorrow I think I will be eating them a lot more frequently as a between class snack, probably with some carrots or some other veggie. Oops on the cereal though, just picked up a bunch of boxes of Kashi. Picked up some more frozen blueberries too, really liking them with yogurt - probably one of my favorite foods on the diet so far.

Would Amazon be an ok site to purchase fish oil and a multi vitamin for cheap?

Made some burgers tonight, was really hard to log on livestrong but I did my best. Basically just mixed about 4 oz. of 83/17 beef with black beans and mushrooms and made them into a patty. Added lettuce, tomato, pickle (may have to ditch the pickle in the future - damn those have a lot more sodium then I thought), and mustard. Ate it on a whole wheat sandwich thin that I got from the store - 100 calories for both pieces of the bread and 5g protein and like 6g fiber. Probably not the healthiest thing in the world but I tried my best to make it on the healthy side.

http://www.amazon.com/Coromega-Omega...3976853&sr=1-1

or maybe this?

And this for a multi?

I also saw that this was the #1 best selling "Vitamins & Supplements" on Amazon:

It looks like it is some sort of weight loss pill, should I avoid these things?

Hi imjoshsizemore, gl with your weightloss journey. I recently lost over 85 lbs myself and if there's one tip I can offer you is don't micromanage your diet. Micromanaging anything will become extremely boring real quick and you'll quit. If you can afford $7, I would buy the TnT Diet book. That is what I did and the science behind it is so simple to understand.
GL man!

GL OP

Add a few eggs to your diet. I usually have 3 hard boiled eggs and
throw away two of the yolks. (after any exercise with weights)
1 hard boiled egg 90 cal
1 hard boiled egg without the yolk = 10 cal.

good protein, makes you feel full, 1 yolk for taste, 110 cals.

when I was on my diet, I weighed myself every morning before brekfast.
from your posts it looks like you lost 13-14 lbs of water and 1-2lb of fat so far.
Keep it up. 3500 cals = 1 lb. a 500 cal deficit will lose you 1 lb per week.
its not exciting, but 4 lbs per month, 40 lbs in 10 months is a solid, healthy weigh loss.

I would go with the second fishoil, more servings for less money. The multi looks fine just make sure it is iron free, and you don't need the diet pills.

Grilled some chicken breast on the Foreman Grill for dinner, I'm not sure how big it was but I would guess 4-6oz. Chopped it up and put it in a big fresh made salad with carrots and celery. Topped with raspberry vinaigrette dressing.

Weight finally changed from 255.0 today, after a 3 day stalemate, so that was a relief.

Fish Oil should be here Wednesday, Multi not until Friday or as late as Tuesday next week. I've read different things all over the web about how much of the fish oil tablets to actually take, I think I am going to go with one at each meal, so probably about 4 a day.

Got the multi in the mail today, 180 tablets. You are supposed to take 3 a day with meals. That surprised me, the last time I took multis (~6 years ago) I thought they were one a day. Never heard of 3 a day multivitamins. But anyway, I will adhere to the 3 a day policy with those and try to extend the fish oil frequency from the recommended 3 to 4 or 5, depending on how many times I eat a day, and take the 3 multis with my 3 largest meals.

Had 4 total meals, took 4 fish oil and 3 multivitamin. Dinner was great - homemade salad that included chicken breast from the foreman grill, 3 hard boiled eggs (only 1 with yolk per the recommendation in this thread, thanks!), and 1/4 cup of black beans, topped with 2tbsp of low fat honey mustard dressing. According to livestrong I crossed my daily recommended amount of cholesterol today for the first time in my diet, all from that one egg yolk, lol!

I think my face looks like it is slimming down.

ffs, I just posted on another guy's weight loss story...

Get rid of the sugar drinks
potatoes
chips
cheese
creamy, honey bullsh**

3 simple rules, don't eat anything white, sugar or fatty.

that leaves, vegetables, fruit, brown grains and lean meats. get rid of all this processed crap from your diet.
