what did you do to motivate yourself? can you be specific about what you ate? are you on the same diet? was it expensive
That’s really the thing, we all know WHAT to do, it’s just the doing that’s the hard part.
My typical daily diet:
No breakfast
Lunch at noon - Two cans of tuna with light mayonnaise and sriracha (I’ve heard hot sauce boosts metabolism. Not sure if true but either way, hot sauce is good)
Snack (if needed) - handful of peanuts or pistachios.
Dinner at 6-6:30 - Baked chicken breast. I usually cube it or shred it and mix it with salsa.
Dessert - 10-15 chocolate chips. I find the little taste of sweetness helped curb cravings for bigger dessert.
For dinner, I’ll sometimes have some lean pork tenderloin instead of chicken breasts or thighs. Sometimes a small salad or side of broccoli, too.
I brush my teeth as soon as I’m done with dinner. I know I’ll be less tempted to eat later at night if I already brushed my teeth as I don’t want to do it all over again.
Drink only water and an occasional diet soda. No alcohol, no juice, no regular soda, no milk, nothing like that.
That’s literally how I’ve been living for over a year now. Sucks at first but it gets easier after a week or two. When I go out, most places will offer just a side of meat even if it’s not on the menu but we really don’t go out to eat much. In and Out protein style burgers are good, too.
I do at least 100 push ups a day and bicep curl 50 lb dumbbells 4 sets of 10. Leg lunges and up and down multiple stairs several times as a sort of plyometric leg exercise, too. I do a timed heavy bag exercise found on YouTube 1-2x/week. Usually all of this is at night before bed.
My motivation was just not wanting to keep buying larger and larger clothes. I was sick of moving from XXL to XXXL and was starting to consider XXXXL. Enough was enough. There was a wedding about nine months out where I’d see family who hasn’t seen me in awhile and I wanted to surprise them with my weight loss. My aunt cried when she saw me and others literally didn’t recognize me, so that was well worth it. Also, I was motivated by the WSOP (cheesy, I know) and my desire to play without significant back pain and without wanting to be embarrassed by my size if I happen to end up on a featured table.
As a forensic psychologist, I work with criminals all day long. I used the potential danger of my job as another reason to get into better shape. If I look too soft and easy of a target, someone might try something stupid. But even if you don’t work in a similar environment, rising crime rates are a problem for all of us and looking less like an easy target is a good motivating factor.
I had to mentally tell myself I’m allergic to carbs. I am literally allergic to beans, eggs, and shellfish so I just added carbs to my “do not eat” list. I treated them the same as I do other foods I’m allergic to and it seemed to work. I wasn’t even tempted over the holidays to deviate from my diet.
Oh and no, it isn’t expensive at all. You end up eating a lot less and eating out a lot less so I think it saves money, actually. Canned tuna on Amazon can be pretty cheap, too.
Sorry for the tl;dr and I hope I wasn’t rambling too much.
