I find counting calories and filling up on veggies and keeping protein intake fairly high works well when I do try to lose weight.
I'm pretty sure that the important thing is finding something that is easy for the individual to stick with. Glad your experiment went well
Right now, I'm just focusing on exercising and don't really care much about my weight.
