Help!!!! Help!!!!

I need someone who can tell me something or assist me in someway in this serious problem that I have. I really can only work out before work. After work I'll never make it, plus the gym is so busy by then it's a waste of time anyway. My problem is, I set my alarm, wake up when it goes off, but can't get myself out of the bed and go to the gym. I just end up resetting it for a couple hours later, and then showering and going to work and never getting exercise and end up looking like Jabba the Hut. How can I stop this vicious cycle????

stop being such a lazy bastard!

seriously though, spend ten minutes before going to sleep the night before thinking about what you're trying to achieve and remind yourself that it takes some effort and a little pain to get there. also try putting your alarm clock somewhere not within reach of your bed, or even better hook up two alarm clocks on opposite sides of the room. if its really serious maybe get some topless photos of yourself, then get some photos of a guy(s) that you would like to look like, put them together and stick them to your alarm clock, possibly along with a motivational message about how not sleeping in is the first step towards change.

ive never been as extreme as you in terms of laziness to get up, but ive had problems with it sometimes. i think these would be the types of things i would do if i was in your predicament, good luck!

You just gotta do it, there is no trick etc that will help. Either you want to or you don't.

You can start watching shows like "One Ton Mom" and the "750lb Man" and starting learning how your life is gonna be eventually.

I guess also what I'm asking is...because I believe only one of the posts here was helpful...what do you guys do to motivate yourselves? Let's say the gym is the last place you want to go to...how do you still get yourselves in there? What do you think about, what do you tell yourselves, what gets you motivated to get in there and pound the plates, or run a couple miles?

Let's see.

Do you want to be healthy?

Do you want to not be lazy?

Do you want the satisfaction of working towards a goal, of feeling better throughout the entire day?

Do you want a better body?

Do you want to get bitches (or whatever floats your boat)?

Do you want to continue upping the weight, using whatever program your on to it's fullest?

Honestly, what gets me going, is my love for doing weights. But, some days you really don't feel up to it, but you think about the goals you want to achieve and you go. To be the best you gotta work hard.

I think most of the reg posters here workout b/c they enjoy it, whether it's lifting weights, training for a marathon or whatever, etc. I can't honestly say I'd lift weights if I didn't like lifting weights--I enjoy the solitude and zen-ness of weightlifting and testing myself in such an elemental way. I also enjoy running and the runner's high afterward.

I guess what I would say is that maybe you need to figure out what's so hateful about getting up and going to the gym for you, and what exercise regimen you could get on that you'd actually look forward to. B/c that's the one you'll stick with in the long run.

These last two posts plus the one initial one are excellent. Thank you both.

i think that most of us get to a groove where we don't feel right when we're not on schedule with a lifting/training program.

as you ease out of it, it gets easier and easier to slack off so it's important to stay on top of yourself.

Personally i have too much energy mentally (not necessarily positive, like mind racing psychotic shat) if i don't lift. I lift to keep myself regular. I'm also inspired by a cousin who passed from muscular dystrophy- i have an amazing body in that it functions as designed. I always felt bad for him because i was constantly taking for granted what really is a gift- health.

I also am driven to look better each time i look in the mirror. I work out with a high percentage of my goals being asthetic- it may be vain but i want my body to look the way that i want it to look. Strength is well and all but i want to have perfect form, be moderately strong, and look solid- it's as simple as that.

the drive to carry on comes from within, no one is going to kick your ass when it's 0 degrees if you want to lay in bed and skip the iron, but if you love it- you'll be there grinding while other slobs sleep an extra few hours.

Keep your eyes closed and get out of bed to start doing your normal routine. Makes it easier.

lol bump?

But the answer to OP is to watch this every night before going to bed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMy3uuZResw

And changing your alarm clock to say 'AINT NUTTIN' TO IT BUT TO DO IT!'

Depending on how much space you have and what your budget is like, getting some equipment for home can be a great idea. I have a Concept II rowing machine which cost me $900 (a lot less if its used) and these things last a lifetime. Powerblock adjustable dumbbells plus adjustable bench was another $1k or so... these will also last forever. I have a gym membership but sometimes I just can't or don't want to drive 30 minutes roundtrip.

Seems like a big $ investment but when you amortize it over many years it's not at all. And it's a ridiculously convenient time-saver. Use it after work, before work, whatever.
