57,

That Heath looks beautiful.

My city actually just finished some walking trails that go across town through the woods and will be good for my daughter and I to go to after work and school.

I'm actually in an area of mostly woods and lakes/ponds and not a concrete jungle. It's hard to walk anywhere in town in my area because stores are so spread out and miles apart, so deliberate walking on the trails is the only option. In Dallas, I can walk to the store or various places.
I don't think people getting picked up for walking is a thing, I dunno though.

Johnny/57,

I'm having a sardine sandwich now....yum

For anyone who hasn't tried them, they are a meaty fish flavor and great with buffalo sauce.

I'm cooking pork ribs for the first time today. All the instructions I read said to remove the membrane on the back. That **** was hard, so I just did a cross hatch pattern and hope I still get the "fall of the bone" effect.
Does anyone have a good technique for removing the membrane?

Got em sauced up and in the oven now. I'll have to try not adding sauce until they cook next time to see which way is better/juicier.

Wat?

But the body is designed and evolved for walking, and trying to make up for a sedentary lifestyle in the gym doesn't really work. And you can't compensate by fiddle-faddling with your food intake

9/23 vitamins:
Went to the doctor last month and I have a vitamin D deficiency. I forget to take pill vitamins, so I need to eat more foods to help me absorb vitamin D.

Increasing your vitamins through food is a good strategy, but if you are going to supplement with pills or have to take meds, getting one of those pill boxes that have the days of the week marked was a huge help for me. Also great for when I have to travel and I almost never miss a day now. Also helps you keep track if you are getting low on anything to re-up. Makes me feel old but still highly recommend.

Hahaha...not a bad idea, I'll definitely feel like an old as well with a pill box.

Today was a really lazy day. I've only been sleeping about 5hrs a night for the past few weeks and slept 9 last night and layed in bed reading all day. I have vacation tomorrow and plan to do the same thing.
I'm reading the first book of Dune and want to finish it tomorrow.

Also, I haven't really been just playing clash with all my free time away from 2+2. I've been taking my daughter to the park, dance camp, gymnastics, fashion shows...just spending more time with her in general. I'm also doing more art work and reading more. I plan to keep doing all these things and more.
This weekends posting won't be the norm and I plan to only post here once or twice a day when I get back home in the normal routine.

You aren't half way there. Weigh loss gets harder the more you've already lost. Maybe realistically about 15-20% of the way there.
09-24-2018 , 02:16 PM
I'd give it 30%. The first part was even more important anyhow. And half way to happiness. How do you measure that?

I've got family members who were literally questioned by police just for going out for a walk in the US. On one occasion my stepfather, on a business trip, went for a walk, got stopped by a motorcycle cop, wandered back to the hotel and then, in the coffee shop, saw the motorcycle cop who'd questioned him and went hello and the guy just ignored him and sulked.

If you've got walking trails nearby, and they're attractive and interesting, that's good. And one upside of carrying a bit of weight is you burn a lot of calories just moving about. Your weight compared to mine, even after the excellent amount you've lost, is as if I were carrying an infantryman's pack, rations, spare clothes, body armour, helmet, radio, ammunition, grenades, sidearm and rifle. I could hike ten miles like that, but I'd be a bit puffed. You're going to burn a lot of calories anyway, so you just need to eat things that are interesting, but contribute fewer calories than you're burning.

Dunno. Lamb cutlets and green beans or mange-touts and boiled new potatoes with some herbs sprinked over. Pasta ribbons (tagliatelle) with some prawns and strips of smoked salmon stirred in, and maybe broccoli florets. Even a small steak with peas and oven fries. And maybe an avocado vinaigrette for starters and fill up with an orange, an apple or grapes afterwards. Aim for a lot of fresh stuff, a lot of fruit and veg and a lot of fish, and lean meat two or three nights a week.

I've already messed up for the day....it's hard getting back into calorie cutting mode. :/
I would have been fine without the smoothie. I slept 10hrs last night and woke up to eat a huge brunch.

Breakfast seems like a lot to eat, were you seriously still hungry after 4 eggs and the flatbread? Maybe mix in some vegetables as well, you can eat like unlimited amounts of those. I can't imagine not eating dinner after having a day like that, I'd probably feel hungry due to the sheer amount of food I already consumed.
09-24-2018 , 07:37 PM
Yak that doesn't make any sense.

I mixed the salmon+eggs+spinach together on top of the flat bread and then ate 4 hrs later.

MLY,

I’ve walked this journey and it’s not easy. You will get the results you want w long term stick-to-it-iveness. What u do for a week or 2 doesn’t matter. What u do for 2-6 months matters very much, for success.

Also imho at your size your focus should be FOOD and walking. Weight loss is 90% diet, for realz. Walking burns calories and gets u healthy. Keep your eye on these items. Do you have a step counter/Fitbit/jawbone? They really help motivate for more steps.

And you know...maybe limit each meal to 500 calories, like a budget!

Thanks Josie. I've been looking for a Fitbit that I can securely wear around my ankle. I can't wear anything on my arms or neck at work for safety, even my ankle might pose a small risk. I'll need to find a Velcro one or something that breaks away easy.

Logging calories today might be pointless as most would be guesses.

-I had a banana for breakfast
- a blueberry beagle+ cream cheese a lil later
-Chicken quasidilla for lunch
-Turkey sandwich+ about 8oz salmon and a peach smoothie for dinner

M,
I know this came up quite some time ago in your prior log, but did you ever invest in a food scale? A decent one is a cheap purchase and would more than pay for itself if you committed to using it consistently so that you weren't guessing nearly as often.
09-25-2018 , 10:58 PM
Yes, think having that scale and even just test it is beneficial. Makes you really take in there really are calories, oz times cal/oz, going down and straight out to the body. Me just having that scale and using it earlier helped.

A can of sardines every morning is a good way to get omega 3s, protein and fat and if you have never tried them you will be surprised how good they are. It will set up your head in the right frame of mind, be a quick win toward your goal first thing, and is easy.

If you can’t hack sardines (try them before you decide!) find something else that is high protein with some fat, very low carb and easy to prepare to start your day. Just doing this, deleting any sugary drinks at all, and cutting down booze will help get you most of the way toward sustainable habits that are individual step—not whole cloth drastic change where a slip means you fall back to square one all at once.
Plus one for the food scale, but let me ask....can you commit to the bolded for a month? No smoothies? Just getting in the practice of saying no to things you indulge in is like working a muscle...your will power. The more reps you get in, the more practice you have, the easier it becomes and you can add more nos to your life.

****, no joke, when donuts came to the office I used to work in I would go and walk by them on purpose JUST to practice not having one.

Pick one thing, I nominate the calorie bomb smoothies and any other sugary drinks---even ones that pretend to be healthy and cut them the **** out. Eliminate them. Not for a treat, not because you feel good about a good week of eating, not because you feel bad about a bad week of eating...just no. For a month, then next month add a challenge.
09-26-2018 , 12:45 AM
I could cut out the smoothies. I've had maybe 5 in the past 4 months, so they aren't an addiction.

The food scale: I'm out of town for work this week, but could have easily brought it.
I'm trapped at a building complex for the entire day all week, so I have to eat the food at the available restaurant due to short breaks.

There is salmon and veggies on the menu, but it goes over my meal allowance amount. The other options are pasta, sandwiches, quesadillas, hot wings, soups....from what I can remember.

I tried using the Flow pedometer, but I lose signal in the plant during the day.

This talk about pedometers and fitbits etc is focusing 90% of your energy on something that should take up 3% of your energy.
