5/21 Swim:

I did 300m free and stopped the clock then did 150m of breaststroke.
Kids were in the pool all day and I tried to do a night swim.....water was way too cold.

I don't think that is the case these days.
I was looking into getting a masters and there were no requirements other than a certain undergrad gpa. If you got your bachelor's from the school I went to, they even waved the GMAT requirement.

The PE requires:
-EIT~ passing the fundamentals of Engineering exam
-At least 4 years Engineering work experience
-Application
-3 PE references
-A suplimentary experience report of every project you have ever worked on in your career
-Clean background check
-Submit fingerprints to FBI
-pass the Ethics exam
The board has to review and approve all that, then
-Pass the PE exam in your area of your engineering specialty

It's a doozy......I'm on the last step other than the board approving me and just have to pass the PE exam which is now computer based so I don't have to wait till October.
I now plan to take it at the end of July.

5/21 measurements: weight today is 261.6
I have a feeling my arms are about to start slimming up fast with swimming.
I wish I knew were I put my old measurements to see how many inches I gained in my stomach with the extra 60lbs put back on. I look like I'm pregnant now

You can't spot reduce fat.

Swimming isn't going to shrink your arms.

Re: H&F Advice Applied

I believe tracking the measurements provides motivation as does tracking weightloss. When I got to around 230lbs before the weight was slow to come off, but I was lifting weights a lot and saw a continuous decrease in my stomach and thigh fat. Seeing any measurable change is motivating for me.

Dodger,
I can already see the muscles coming back in my arms and they feel elongated with the decrease of the flabby fat underneath....my arms are gonna slim fo sho.

As a world famous psychologist, my assessment is that it doesn't, and the more numbers you have to look at the more distracting it becomes.

Re: H&F Advice Applied

Losing weight will cause your arms to slim. Working those specific muscles out won't, it will add muscle tho to make them look better.

Your body puts fat on as it does, you can't work out a certain area to make it slimmer (losing weight will do that eventually tho). You can add muscle to a specific area but can't make the fat go away primarily there.

The swimming does burn calories obv and will help with your whole body shrinking.

Re: H&F Advice Applied

Tennis players with a dominant hand have more muscle there, but the same amount of fat as their other arm.

Re: H&F Advice Applied

So this guy sent my resume to the owner of a local company and the owner called me.
It's not just to provide Engineering support, but to run the whole dang company. He would like me to do some contract work for the company and "trial" me. I feel a bit intimidated and scared lol.

The owner is going into retirement and his main guy is retiring in a year and he wants to be completely hands off and live off the company profits in retirement and his children have no interest in the business.

My good luck is starting to balance out my shitty bad luck.

My bicepts feel elongated rather than round and bulky when I was lifting weights. I can feel them from my elbow crease to the shoulder. Before I had a round bulge.

Sat 5/23 Swim:

1000m total

300m
60s rest
300m
60s rest
100m
30s rest
100m
30s rest
100m
30s rest
100m

I just can't believe my heart rate wasn't higher. I was sucking air after the 2nd 300m and my legs were getting fatigued.

Re: H&F Advice Applied

Slightly more than 15meters.
I am doing a little bit more than the actual values logged, but it's a negligible amount.

When I do my mile swim I'm going to get a trial pass at one of the gyms in Dallas with a 25meter pool so I can get an accurate time.

I think the extra distance is more than compensated for by the extra pushoffs. If you're good at flip turns, you can get away with actually swimming very little. Even open turns will reduce your effective distance significantly. There's a reason why short pool records are faster than long pool ones.

Re: H&F Advice Applied

That's true. I'm not flip turning and am being cautious of pushing off.

I'm wondering if I could build up to one of those sprint triathlons, I think it would be fun. I'm confident I could do the swim and bike, but I'm a slow ass runner.

And oh man my legs were so powerful in the pool when I was squatting and deadlifting. When I start lifting weights I'm only gonna get 3 strokes per pool length.
