Sigh at maintenance. 145 pounder maintenance?? Sure, sure I am on board. Maintenance at 193? Lol.
I think this is correct. Also, weight loss surgery has a finite period where it is most effective. It makes sense to make the most of it.

Re: H&F Advice Applepied

Thanks Dodger. Since I've lost weight no one recognized me and didn't realize I had won it the last time we played in 2019. I was able to do a lot of trapping with the good players....they just kept betting into me H&F Advice Applepied.

188.1lbs Today

I have been at around maintenance for 7weeks now, which is the exact amount of time since I moved. The adjustment period is over and I need to make some changes to continue losing weight.

I'm now 10months out from surgery with probably a couple months left of limited capacity in my stomach before it's back to almost normal. I really need to ramp up my exercise the next couple of months and count calories......easy street is over.
There is still something wrong with my left quad. It's been locking up again since I played volleyball last Tuesday. The last time it locked up was when I played softball a couple of years ago. It locks up and feels like a pulled muscle when I walk.

I'm getting used to the routine of cooking every night. Protein shakes for breakfast, home cooked meals for lunch+dinner, maybe a spinach/fruit smoothie at night and no more dang fast food and pizza.

I've lurked here for a long time and don't think I've ever posted, but I want to point out how significant this is -- in one year you've made yourself unrecognizable to people who should have a reason to remember you. You're now a different person. You should celebrate that.

It should also be your motivation to keep working. Set a goal that they don't recognize you again next year...

Lol

I want to be at a 1k deficit, so 1200-1600

I don't trust TDEE cals anymore and think my metabolism slowed significantly after the first weight loss or something is jacking with it. Maybe hormones.....I have straggly hairs growing on my chin now and am starting to cross over to old lady territory.

What's your current weight?

Yah I need to recharge my metabolism too. Way too sedentary still. I'm in the 220's but grinding 3-4 pounds a week.

Re: H&F Advice Applepied

How do you not believe in TDEE? You’re literally seeing how it works. You lost a lot of weight which your body does not have to burn calories to support and as such your TDEE is much lower. You either up your output via physical activity or you lower your consumption via eating less calories.

Recharging your metabolism is not possible either. It doesn’t get damaged if that’s what you’re implying by saying you need to recharge something. You either increase your NEAT or you decrease your calories. Full stop.

Morbid obese can permanently damage the metabolism. She's also a recipient of an extremely invasive bariatric surgery that fundamentally alters your hormonal milieu.

Im not sure the study found what you’re claiming

“RMR declined out of proportion to the decrease in body mass, demonstrating a substantial metabolic adaptation”

That’s not damage that’s adaptation. It’s not damage to burn less due to weighing a lot less. Damage to me would be returning to the same weight/composition/activity while burning fewer calories.

To me the study linked “proved” that total body mass matters more for TDEE than body fat % in same sized individuals. I skimmed and you’re super good at arguing on the interwebs so feel free to poke holes in my analysis there.

It doesn't really matter* either way.. TDEE calculators just a starting point for everyone. If you aren't losing weight (and want to), then you cut calories more and/or increase movement more.

*Unless someone has a time machine so we can travel back and smack the cheese danish out of the younger version of the current fatty's hand.

I don't really care to actually. It seems you may have been responding to 27off instead of MLY, which is my error.

Thank you, NotThremp.

I also have some issues with that study, but meh I don't feel like arguing.

Others are right in that what causes lower TDEE is irrelevant, the solution of eat less/move more is still the solution.

Re: H&F Advice Applepied

Been playing poker for several hours per day the last 4 days; ate pizza everyday but my total cals had to have been less than 1k per day...weight is going down this week.

Back to normal cooking/prepping schedule now. Going to have a house full of kids for a week, so I'll see how it goes with not eating anymore pizza. My sister's kids won't eat anything but pizza+chips and code3 is going to give in and order them pizza everyday.

You sure it's code that's going to give in?

So three regular-sized pieces of pizza? Because as we all know by now, a slice of pizza is 300 cals.

Re: H&F Advice Applepied

I had one slice per day.

Yesterday was 1 slice of pizza, a Snickers bar, 4" of a 6" Spicy Italian sandwich, and a pork taco.

I can't remember eating anything but 1 slice of pizza on Sunday, had 24oz of coke and a sugar free redbull. (I played from 10am to 12:30am in the women's tourny)

Today was a pork taco, 1oz of brisket, 17 white cheddar Cheetos, 2 cups white cheddar popcorn, and 6 mushroom ravioli+sauce....I cooked dinner tonight.

Re: H&F Advice Applepied

My brain is healing!

I looked at my sleep patterns for 2020-2021 and before/after losing weight. Sleep patterns are an indicator of when I'm manic high or manic low.

In 2020 before surgery I was swinging 24% of the time; 7%high, 17%low.

After the surgery it has been 19%; 5%H, 14%L

Highs are 7 or more days in a month without sleep and lows are 8 or more days with 9+hrs of sleep. My normal sleep is 6hr45min to 7hr20min.

That's a 5% decrease since starting to lose weight. Not sure if this decrease is due to weightloss, more movement, or the mindfulness/meditation I've been practicing.

I had a manic high episode in May 2021 and the last one was April 2020. A full year! Before 2020 it was every single month.

From 2014-2019 I would say that I was swinging 75%+ of the time(I was also losing weight during this time). Changing my environment and external triggers and having a break from work has obviously contributed the most. Environment has been in flux the last 6months and to still have a decrease means weightloss and/or meditation is contributing at least a little.
