Re: H&F Advice Applepied

Dunno, I disabled all of the restrictions I have in place and it seems pretty diverse.
For example this (everything also includes a recipe)

Hmmmm.....this seems too structured for me, but it is tempting as I really want to learn new recipes and just have them picked out for me without having to think.

I'll be back to work soon and I will have to figure out really fast breakfast, prepped meals for lunch, and dinners that can be eaten in the car while driving. Now I'm trying to build habits that will be easily carried over when I'm working. Having three different meals every single day that are cooked and eaten at home wouldn't work for me long term.

Do you know of any good food prep apps for busy working mom's that leave the house at 7AM and get home at 9PM most days?

Re: H&F Advice Applepied

Thur Aug 6th and Fri Aug 7th food:

I did a 24hr fast starting Fri night and ending Saturday night for a little mental and feeling real hunger pain reset.

I have been consistently doing yoga everyday as part of my morning routine. I am beggining to be completely disgusted with my fat belly. I have to move my belly or can't do a lot of the poses because of it. My last fast food meal was yesterday and there will be no more until this belly is gone.

While I don't know any actual apps for that purpose per se, the site I linked before allows to filter foods for their preparation time and complexity.
Another sensible approach would simply be to utilize some kind of meal preparation system by cooking once every 24 hours (e.g. in the evenings after work). Then you can also bring your meal(s) to work and just nuke them.

Structure makes things much easier. By easier, I mean that it is virtually impossible to be consistent without it, and consistency is only thing that works.

There is a reason why most of the non-fatties here eat basically the same meals over and over and over - It keeps them from gorging on cake after being all proud of themselves for having one or two or five low calorie meals.

Re: H&F Advice Applepied

1. More structure is good. Get more structure. You yourself have said that more structure is good for you. Use more structure. Accepting a structure makes it harder to **** up.

2. While developing more good habits generally is good, there's no reason for you to pre-plan that the thing you create now will support a future state in which you are back at work and you are working from an office and you have full childcare and your child is in school all day. Saying you have to plan fast dinners that can be eaten while driving (wtf is this? see next point?) because you'll be back at work soon is both ridiculous and simply an excuse.

3. Fast breakfasts are good and easy to come by. Eggs. Oats. Etc. Pre-prepped lunches are good, particularly for you. Good job recognizing that these are good things for you to plan.

4. What on earth are you talking about with the need for dinners that can be eaten in the car while driving? Don't you prepare dinner for your child for whom you have sole custody most nights during the year? Why should you have to eat while driving? You're not working 2 jobs and squeezing in dinner between shifts. You're working a 9-5 or 8-6 or whatever and then going home to your house with your kid, who also needs to eat dinner. Just cook food for both of you that isn't garbage.

5. Lol at you quitting fast food until "the belly is gone." Again, a stupid thing to do because there are many fast food options that aren't that bad, and because if you just budget for the calories you can SBCB when on the road. But hilariously framed alongside "I need food I can eat while driving."

6. Maybe just try setting yourself up for success for once?

I'm not sure about most, but it's definitely a common strategy.

When YTF was in the zone, his breakfast and lunch were almost the same every day.

Or, for the opposite end of the spectrum, have a look at a G4S food log. It's crazy monotonous, but you can't argue with the results.

Re: H&F Advice Applepied

Cit,
I would pick my daughter up around 6PM, she would have different activities 3-5 times a week putting us home about 9PM those nights. I coached her basketball team so I wasn't able to go grab food or do drop offs like the other parents. On the nights we got home on time we were working on homework, the yard, the house....just non-stop go go go. That was this past year. Before I was traveling a lot for work and being called into work a lot at nights and having to drag her with me in the middle of the night.
Yeah, she was probably in way too many things and I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off getting her to everything. We were eating fast food most nights. I can't help but let her try whatever she asked to do after I grew up so poor and I want to give her everything. Regardless of the pandemic, I had plan on cutting her activities to only one thing at a time so we can spend more time together at home and be healthier and also work an office job with no travel. But, there would still be 2-3 nights a week eating in the car.

Structure is good and I absolutely need it, but moreso prepping and eating the same things as Melk and others mentioned. I can't work in cooking different meals every night while I'm working and I want to build really strong sustainable habits for when I'm running around like a crazy person again.

Okay, that was last year. You're currently unemployed, correct? I'm also sure your daughter has a lot less extra-curriculars to attend, at the moment.

There's no excuse to not be meal prepping right now, especially considering it's one of the things that really works for you when you're in the zone. Plenty of time to make it an efficient weekly habit before anything else intrudes on your schedule.

Don't sit here and compose a long reply of excuses. Go freeze some burritos.

You aren't taking into account the hours it takes to pull baby carrots or broccoli or whatever out of the fridge and put them into a bag to take with you, nor are you taking into account how hard it is to put prepared salad mix or prepared shredded cabbage or prepared shredded carrots or and lunch meat and a low calorie condiment (such as mustard or salsa or reduced calorie dressing or pico de gallo) onto a low calorie wrap and then surmounting the task of folding it. Certainly, you aren't taking into account the massive inconvenience of opening a bag of prepealed hard boiled eggs.

Burritos?!? Pshaw, I say. Virtually impossible to make them with a team of assistants in today's world.

You must be very out of touch to think a hardworking (or unemployed) individual has that much free time.

Youíre right but when it takes just a 5 minute detour to get a triple cheeseburger, thatís the competition weíre dealing with. And itís fierce competition.

My bane is lunch while at work. I always end up getting tacos when I easily could prepare something healthier at home - the tacos are faster, no cleanup, and trigger that sweet dopamine release. Itís better to think of this like an addiction because honestly thatís what it is.

The struggle is real. That is why you have to make it as easy as possible or you are guaranteed to fail.
