Who is doing the surgery? Is it your friend or is it someone else? If so, when did you meet with the person actually doing the surgery? How did that appointment go? You just walked in stating you wanted "weight loss surgery" and they put you down for 10/8? They had no reluctance to perform it? They didn't recommending trying any other alternatives? They just scheduled you for surgery in 3 weeks, just like that?
I'm going to Tijuana, to the same doctor my sister used. I've been communicating with them for a year and they have all the info the other US doctors have. It is right accross the border from San Diego. I actually had a the surgery booked with them before and canceled when I thought my insurance would come through.
I've been in communication with them and pullled the trigger after lunch with my friend.
Mine and Code3's flights are booked. If I chicken out at the last minute, we will just make it a mini vacation in California and drive up the coast or something.
I'm kinda scared.

I assumed the surgery would be done in the back room of the Italian joint.

Think I saw something like this on The Sopranos

Seems weird that you needed to have lunch with cheer mom surgeon, who is only kind of your friend, in order to seal the deal. If you "went to several doctors for it", then presumably you had been reassured of it's safety and effectiveness several times by people who actually do the surgery. Not sure why cheer mom surgeon would move the needle.

Setting that aside, taking flights so that you can travel to Mexico in the middle of a pandemic to get an elective surgery doesn't exactly sound like the epitome of sound decision-making.

Good luck.

TJ is fine. A lot of great restaurants there. You will have zero issues crossing the border, just say doctor at customs and then take one of the safe taxis outside. You can stay at Caesars Hotel for $45 and have dinner where the Ceasar salad was invented, we all know you like creamy. Look I hate creamy but they make a great facking salad.

And if you want to know real tacos, try Taqueria Franc. Real not that Texas bullshiet. I remember when El diablo suggested there were solid Mexican restaurants in Dallas, Texas. Lol. Liberal elitist white dude don't know about good Mexican food. But TJ has it.

My surgery is the same day as I arrive and I won't get to indulge in those delicious ****ing tacos. I had colleagues that I traveled with whom were from there and they went on and on about the food.
Code3 is just going to go to a gas station and eat chips the entire trip.*eyeroll

Yeah, no good Mexican restaurants in Dallas but we have some great taco stands here hidden in the woods with the illegals.

Spoiler:
El D is Mexican....rich Aztec blood

There is no way El D is Mexican. Look I am partially fake, but if he is of Mexican descent he takes the cake as fakest mexican of all time. Because he thinks Tex-Mex is solid and that's just fake Mexican food with extra cheese, flour, and lettuce added. Plus some sour cream. Gross.

Not a big fan but it's not butchered. Maybe make the avocado into the salsa and add the spicyness directly and ditch the slices of jalapeño.

The entertainment in this thread took quite the turn.

I just want loco to keep guessing.

Loco, with a surprisingly correct take here.

Truly shocking really, considering that his taste buds are so busted that he likes in-n-out fries.

While I'd likely prefer loco's proposed version, I have no doubt the taco in the photo is still pretty tasty.

We 9/16 log:
2tbs creamer, 1/2c sweet foam
11oz salmon
5oz sweet potato
3c spinach
2-tv dinners

Just a 12 min bike ride for exercise.

As much as I often appreciate the subdued elegance of carnitas on a tortilla with just cilantro and onions and a warm tamale with notes of mud, it's pretty hard to deny the improvements that Texans have made on the indigenous food.

Please proceed, governor

I'm very interested in the nature of these "improvements".

Also, can you name some of your favorite Tex-Mex restaurants?

Just one example:Fajitas

Quote:
Fajita is a Tex-Mex, Texan-Mexican American or Tejano, diminutive term for little strips of meat cut from the beef skirt, the most common cut used to make fajitas.[3] The word fajita is not known to have appeared in print until 1971, according to the Oxford English Dictionary. (The word faja is Spanish for "strip", or "belt", from the Latin fascia, "band"[6]) Although fajita originally referred to these strips of beef skirt, fajitas now are made with a variety of fillings, such as green/red/yellow peppers, onions, chilies, and jalapeño peppers.[7]

The first culinary evidence of the fajitas with the cut of meat, the cooking style (directly on a campfire or on a grill), and the Spanish nickname goes back as far as the 1930s in the ranch lands of South and West Texas.

If you haven't had a good Torta in Texas, then you are going to the wrong places.

*Hint: Tortas aren't made by Brahayton in his man bun off exit 23, they are made by Rosa in her pink and lime green trailer house with the metal counter attached to the kitchen window.

Nah, specifically torta ahogada. Just any old torta will absolutely not do. But, yes, little old ladies on back streets is generally what you are looking for

If we're looking for something with skirt steak (or other fillings) in a tortilla, I'd much rather have Mexican street tacos.

Also, please name some places where you think they serve good fajitas.

I live in the sticks so I can't name any restaurants. The run of the mill Mexican places that cater to American pallets are mostly gross, but there are a few passable places in my area. I find that I most enjoy quality American restaurants with texmex fare, but as I said, I do often enjoy the simple traditional fare, and when I don't want to have a healthy bowel movement for a while I'll even have a torta. There's a great 'real' Mexican place close to where I work so it's also convenient.

I'm all for railing against fatties being grossed out by anything not slathered in mayo and piled high with cheese but it's no secret that injecting fats and carbs into food makes it taste generally better.
