Hey Guys,
I am playing a massive tournament on Friday, and following that up with a week more of live large field tournaments. The last thing I need is to be sick, but I've got a tickle in the back of my throat and anose like a faucet.
Help me make it stop.

Gargle with warm saltwater, sleep as much as you can, and eat like a horse.

a surge of vitamin c might delay your cold by like 8 hours. i'd take ibuprofen and sleep more.

Gargling a few times a day with Listerine can make colds less severe or make them go away sometimes if you do it soon enough imo.

Definitely get lots of sleep.

hot fluids constantly + vitamin C.

When I start to feel a cold coming on, I drink extremely hot tea (just to the point where you can barely stand it) all day, I always make sure I have a cup in my hand. And I take ~1000-1500mg of vitamin C. Usually knocks the sickness out in a day or it lightens up the symptoms.

Two treatments are known (ie RCT studies have proven) to reduce cold symptoms:

1. P. sidoides aka UMCKA (at least 1:8-10 extraction in 11% ethanol solvent) has been shown to reduce cold duration and symptoms and is pretty impressive in the literature. That said, I had an allergic reaction to it or (maybe) something else.. but there is no evidence for increased adverse events with umcka.
2. Echinacchea which may be effective for early treatment and duration of symptoms (but probably not severity) although the evidence ain't as good for #1

Things that have been shown not to reduce cold severity or duration:

1. Vitamin C
2. Internasal steroids
3. Zinc (sortof)
4. Antihistamines alone
5. Antibiotics (if you're otherwise healthy)

What is UMCKA and can I get it ovet the counter at a pharmacy?
I know about the Vitamin C myth, my brother helped to prove it false when he was interning at the FDA.
