A guy, probably the strongest p4p on bench I've seen and certainly in my gym, who always, always maxes out on bench every day came up and talked to me today. He weighs 165 and benches 405. Every time. Anyway he had a lot of advice for me. Apparently using creatine is cheating and is the only reason I have any gains and they all will disappear if I stop. Also I should eat noodles and go for one rep max every workout, every excersise. And use wheybolic from gnc.

I just wanted to pass it on to all of you here because you may never meet him.

He also tbar rows five plates and stacks a ton of weight on the leg press and weighted dips with three 45s. Strongest dude I've ever seen for his size.

But I'm not quitting creatine over him.

Not necessarily. He might just be a short limbed dwarf. Kolecki shaped 185lb guy benching 405 is way more impressive than 5'7 or shorter short limbed hobbit doing the same.

He's about 5'8-5'9. On the thin side for a lifter. I'm one of those hobbits you are talking about at 5'4" and 149 and the whole reason he came up to me was because I am suddenly getting attention in our gym for gains and strength and he wanted to ask if I'm on gear to explain it away. Since I am not he used creatine instead of my great luck at being short like you did, but he's not as knowledgable about leverage advantages like you. He is the third random to ask me if I'm using gear there but I don't think anyone who is really informed would think I am.

For reference, this is not a serious gym for the most part so I am not really deserving of attention--it's a small pond of casual lifters, but he is a legit big fish for his freakish strength. He is not getting 405 up with any kind of good form, but he does get it up with no help several times every day.

Edit: upon further reflection I'm considering that I may just be too square to realize these guys are probing to supply.

Why do people always ask me if I'm using some machine I'm clearly not using?(clearly as in literally sitting on a different bench or machine) are they this beta they need my permission to exercise?

I think it's also to indirectly ask if you've seen anyone using it who went to get water or w/e.

Seen hot Girl do one leg assisted foot-downs, and got asked if I use a cable while having my towel on bench 10 feet away from it. Yes, the girl was hot, and yes, the guy aksing was youngish beta.

I try to wait to tip my fedora until after he's done using the mirror, which I can tell he appreciates.

Always a gentleman and a scholar.

Btw, someone needs to do a full workout with a fedora and do stuff like this.

Basically, I'm talking about JonFon. Or MilesDyson but who knows where that guy is anymore.

But in all seriousness: a few guys at the gym (myself included) pretty routinely superset (briskly) a few different benches/stations/machines. I'll always ask if something looks like it may be in use if it is in fact in use before I start using it, just in case someone's supersetting, or walked the fountain, or went to take a piss. I don't think that's beta, I just think it's polite; I do have to say that having a Canadian lecture me on being too considerate is something I never thought would happen, but you encounter new things every day, I suppose.

Lol it's not being considerate or polite to bother people for no reason, it's more polite to take the 10 seconds to observe what people are actually doing and react accordingly

Polite society: no talking or eye contact with anyone ever.

Canada: Where "Hey, you aren't using this, are you? Have you seen anyone else on here recently? No? Cool." is considered to be dickish behavior.

Another thing that I get daily is "how many sets do you have left" like F off either ask to work in or wait patiently until I'm done it's basically saying hurry the f up or they are trying to reserve the spot to be next in line to use it , either way I refuse to answer this question

bdiddy,

Generally if the answer to "How many sets do you have left" is <more than 1>, I will then ask to work in; if they only have one set left, I'll just wait. And if someone asks me how many sets I have left, and the answer is <a lot>, I will say "<a lot>, but if you want to work in with me, that's cool" to try and move the conversation along to where we both know it's probably going. You're asping pretty hard over some pretty basic social contract type stuff imo.

You literally just got done saying you dont answer the question of how many sets left and now are saying you are the most polite person in the gym.

Interesting

Sometimes I have two workout partners with me and do not expect that anyone wants three people working in. We split up if there is more than one station, bench, area to ask how many sets so we know where to patiently wait with the quickest turn over.

I don't get offended when people ask me. I do not understand why it is offensive or seen as a way to hurry people up. My guess has always been that people who get offended by the question are often angry/irritated at others for using a machine they want to use so they project that same feeling onto anyone waiting for them to finish.

People getting extremely bothered by innocent behavior while simultaneously being hyper sensitive is also why people are so "beta" as to be careful not to step on your toes. Which also pisses some people off I guess.

Also again yesterday on the leg press I had 10 plates a side and walked 2 steps to grab a few extra plates and some guy strips a plate off to put on the shoulder press, I ask him to put it back and he says "sorry I didn't think anyone could lift this much" like wtf y else would it be on there
I think after that I just got soured with the question and now im frustrated with people asking me it lol before this I had never really thought about it much I guess
