Right, but for untrained people, usually the process of going to the gym and working out motivates them to have healthier eating habits. I've reinforced this fact on him and he believes it, but it's hard to change mindsets completely.
I don't think the PT is talking about diet at length except for recommending eating chicken breasts and less carbs, which is succinct and not too educational, but will practically work for a while.
From the exercises he tells me he does (and I try not to pry too hard), the PT isn't doing a very good program. He is having him squat, but with light dumbbells. There isn't enough strength work and some exercises which I think are completely useless for overweight individuals like assisted dips and lat raises.
