The stability of the smith machine combined with the instability of an exercise ball. Brilliant!

5,000 of the 15,000 posts in this thread are about some knucklehead curling in the skwat rack. Yet somebody wanting to squat, instead of jerking off in the power rack, gets an F YOU?

Most novices that can clean it will almost certainly be able to rack it in a decent position and rep out.

I wonder if an attractive girl would rather hang out in a poker room, or in the weights section of a gym?

poker room= free drinks, sit in a chair and stare at phone for an hour

weight room= every dude in the gym trying to steal a glance in between sets.

Clearly poker wins

I didn't know he wanted to squat.

i can hang clean my frontsquat weight for 3 reps without a problem (80kg / 172 pounds, ~85% bodyweight), and im sure everyone can learn hang clean very fast. since ive never done oly lifts and worjk out in a fitness-chain-gym without any good equipment beside dumbells, i also love the noise that the plates do, when the barbell is landing. seriously serious seriousness and all the cabel-curl roid-users question their pity existence when they see that MUHAHAHAHAHA.

for me, regular squats are impossible, if i want to press the weight and let it down on my back and all the way back when finished, i think im just asking for trouble.
also i believe ill never do the steinbro thing ever, isnt it extremely dangerous to bend sidewards like that with heavy arse weight?

ggo:
saw a guy in a parallel squat position, doing cable-rows with an ez-bar on a tower. might use it as a warm-up next time.

We are talking about a single clean and then pressing it for reps. Every beginner can "reverse curl" much more than they can press. obv ignore the untrained column, so my point stands.

Just an example a 165lb "novice" can clean 145lb and press 100lb by these very broad standards.

Txdome, it's not about "being able to clean the weight" it's about the hand position and desirable rack position for pressing. Your point does not address that.

I feel like it's easy enough to adjust your hand position that it shouldn't be much of an issue.

What is so hard about adjusting your hands in the rack position? I'm really not understanding your point at all.

I mentioned this before, but it doesn't work like that for me... I've always found OHP tends to be really sensitive to minor factors, and I've never had a good session pressing from a clean as opposed to getting under the bar in a rack. Tightness may have something to do with it as well, not just hand position, being able to take a big breath and get stable before you grab the bar etc.

When you rack a clean, you usually have it in your finger tips. Its real hard to make sure your hands are even and then get the bar in the palm of your hands after you have it in the racked position. And for me, the rack position is a lot wider

I was actually faced with this very dilemma my last workout. The sole squat rack was taken by some bros and I had to power clean the weight up to my shoulders. I rarely power clean so I cant say I was real comfortable doing it...still, its no big deal. There is something very satisfying about taking something laying on the ground and having it finish above over your head. I think I might ocassionally just throw this in for fun. That said, one of my wrists did not enjoy it that much and was sore afterwards.

Still, I doubt Id ever give up a rack that Im using for pressing unless it was for a friend or someone that I really respected. First come, first serve. Ive waited enough times for skinny little bros to wrap up endless sets of bb curls or shrugs that Im not just inconveniencing myself for aome random.

luckily my gym has a power rack, modified squat and even a sumo rack specifically for pressing. (but most people get drawn to the smith machines anyway)

You pointed out the differences between the two positions, which doesn't explain why this change in grip is difficult. I'm having trouble explaining this, but I just use my legs to bounce the bar up a little bit and change my grip.

^^ exactly.
clean and jerk is nothing different for some top athletes.
they simply widen their grip. it just needs a tiny bit of practice

Probably due to anthropometric reasons, some people their clean grip is significantly different than their press grip and it is not that easy. For example, my rack is on the end of my finger tips and the grip is much wider than my press grip. Not an easy transition.

I can still easily clean to press and do a 5x3 if I am doing a light weight like 135, but once you start heading into (relatively) heavy territory it is not too fun.

I clean into a press position when I'm just GTGing 225s for reps at my house, but I wouldn't want to do that going for heavy 5-reps on LP because grip setup is pretty important. My arms are weird and the bottom of my press really doesn't rest on my delts.

Morning workout today and know it is summer because high schoolers are coming in. One of them was in the oly room doing some type of lift (cleans or snatch maybe) and then would walk by to go outside to sprint. Guessing crossfit type workout, which is fine by me. Music in there was cranked up with some metal/rock which I could hear between sets. About 15 minutes in it changed to crap my girls listen to. Thought someone else went in and started working out, but it was the same kid jamming out to it between his rounds. Haven't been more glad to have headphones on while at the gym nor more sad to the state of high school boys choice in music.
