Re: General Gym Observations

You could also get a clip to attach the wire to your shirt. My headphones came with one and it's pretty swell. Keeps the cord close to your body without the hassle of putting your ipod down your shirt. Just adjust it so there's enough slack on both ends and you never have to worry about getting tangled.

Re: General Gym Observations

i'm guessing you guys also have better earbuds than the ones that come with the ipod. I used to have normal big headphones for work, but they got jacked, so I've just been going with the ipod crappy ones. Any suggestions?

This could be pretty sweet. The Y either has some crappy music or none at all. My ipod is filled with a lot of hardcore and metal that should get me pretty amped and angry at the bar.

ya headphones/ipod are a must. I have been walking into the gym, realized I left it at home, and headed back to grab it before doing my wo.

This. I've turned around and went back home several times to get my Ipod.

Re: General Gym Observations

Seriously? I can recall several occasions when I've been in my car, 30 seconds after leaving home when I've realized I left my cell phone at home and just said, "I've come too far now." I can't imagine going back for an Ipod.

(Sorry for Harold and Kumar reference)

Re: General Gym Observations

I rarely lift alone and am often cueing or listening to cues with training partners etc, so no music then. When I'm training alone, I sometimes blast music into the earphones, but for many things prefer being calm and having access to all sensory feedback. I couldn't imagine doing C&Js with earphones on.

Re: General Gym Observations

I'm 1/4 mile from my gym and workout alone and always use an iPod. I'd probably do fine with weights without it, but I can't do cardio for more than a few minutes without it.

I have these headphones...

http://store.nike.com/index.jsp?coun...d-1/pid-162396

...but I got them for running, which they are much better for. They go behind the head, so they don't do well when I lay on a bench. I think I may get something more like this for lifting...

http://store.nike.com/index.jsp?coun...97/pgid-162399

I have my iPod in this case...

http://www.marware.com/PRODUCTS/Prod...en-2-iPod-nano

...which actually hasn't been a problem at all surprisingly. I figured I'd have problems when I bend my wrist, but I don't notice it at all and I can change he music really easily.

i think it's called True Stretch.

All the different bars let you stretch everything way out from a ton of angles.

Re: General Gym Observations

God I hate clueless trainers;

Was gonna start my last set of squats yesterday. I unrack the bar and am about to start when the trainer comes running and pushes the bar up on my neck. I train with a low bar placement which it seems hes never heard of. So I only manage to do two of my reps cause I lose my balance completly

Re: General Gym Observations

I'd seriously consider punching someone for touching the bar while I'm trying to squat. That's waaaay out of line and dangerous. Did you already take the bar off the hooks?

Re: General Gym Observations

yeah honestly you should have flipped the **** out and they should have been fired immediately. They would be in any real dedicated gym just for being ****ing *******s, but even in massive chains even if they're lax about incompetence, something like that is a potential big settlement payment waiting to happen.

Plus htf does one even "push" it up the neck. I'm assuming you had some weight on the bar. Even like 100lbs, in the low bar position, that bar ain't moving with a little push. They're just pushing you over.

Re: General Gym Observations

An unracked bar should never be touched by anyone but the lifter, or a spotter if the lifter fails/is handing off on bench.

I have never touched a client's bar while they squatted - if any positional adjustment needs to be made, I have them re-rack and adjust 100% of the time. I will occasionally touch their body to cue form, though.

In this situation, I would likely have racked the bar and told him to gtfa.

Re: General Gym Observations

that's one of those things i wish i had seen in person. like how does he (trainer) approach this situation? jog over and immediately push the bar? say "are you okay?" and wait a second before he does anything? if i had just unracked and saw an idiot charging me, i'd yell something as he got to me, rerack, and yeah, just turn around and give a huge wtf. but i have a beard, a shaved head, and am always there with another shaved head dude, so we get left alone.

Re: General Gym Observations

Yeah the bar was of the hooks and I was just about to squat it. Was only 155 lbs but considering I weight 115 lbs its ****ing heavy for me. Its the same trainer that commented that I shouldnt put the bar on the ground every rep for my deadlifts. The thing is though that the trainers doesnt speak english, so our communication is very limited. And also as you can tell from my weight im not huge, so who am I to discuss with someone twice my size even though I know Im right.

you might worry about being a dick but you should def talk to the manager. That's simply not OK. You could have gotten seriously hurt.

are you the only one who speaks English or is he the only one who doesn't? How can you hire a trainer who doesn't speak his clients' language?

Well its not my trainer, its the general gym-trainer guy. I dont really care about them not speaking english since I dont wanna deal with them anyway. This is ofcourse not in a english-speaking country.

I didn't want to imply that it was your personal trainer and you hired him. More the perspective of the manager. Anyways, next time at least yell at him at the top of your lungs.

I have those and I like them. But I prefer the wrap-around style to earbuds, etc. for working out.
