Re: General Gym Observations

I drop DBs when I do DB bench press. Why would this annoy someone? I honestly don't get how that is a big deal at all.

BTW the reason I drop it is that it really feels bad in my shoulder if I try to sit back *up* with the weight. Down it is not a problem... but up it is.

That looks like it would be terrifying at large weights.

Re: General Gym Observations

Quite possibly, although Rip says it's good for big weights as well. I couldn't say since I don't bench large weights :/

Re: General Gym Observations

Told a guy in the locker rooms today "Congrats bro, ive seen some gross **** at this gym, but that is now the grossest thing ive seen here."

He was clipping his toe nails, with bits of nail covering a bench and all over the floor. He then proceeded to apply some sort of (athletes foot?) cream all over his feet, which of course got all over the floor and bench. I felt pretty sick. Wasnt even an old dude, who are known to do some weird stuff, this guy was mid 20s.

I should have reiterated there is a difference between dropping weights and "dropping weights" ... When I DB BP I do it sans spotter but I either Bring them into my chest and sit up or set them down without chucking them

Re: General Gym Observations

I ranted about a 6'5 240 20 inch arms jacked guy who defies expectation and is actually "weak" by 2p2 metrics a few pages back. Yesterday I saw him squatting. He was with some other gym regs. They marginally hit full depth with pretty wide stances and only worked up to 225 which looked reasonably challenging. It angers me because nobody would EVER ask "do you lift bro?" to any of these guys. 2 out of the 3 in their group had competed in bodybuilding.

I'm going to see him flat bench eventually and he better do like 400. I feel like Brent Kim, though he probably gets "do you lift bro"ed way more often just because he's 5'5 asian.

The noise and the damage to the dumbells? When all the dumbells in your gym are rattling around or broken, you'll understand.

i actually don't get the hate for weak bros. if strength has no functionality in their life (doesnt really play sports or activities), why do they need to be squatting or deadlifting 500 pounds? cant really pinpoint the last time physical strength has really helped me outside of bball, snowboarding, etc

Re: General Gym Observations

Im guessing "2p2 metrics" would probably include squat/dl/bench/press/clean (maybe emphasis on squat and dl), rather than tricep extension or curlz. But yes, 20" arms are probably going to make him strong at some things.

Re: General Gym Observations

so the overall point is people who spend lots of effort doing something can be better than those who don't? profound. but in the end, the guy is way better at what you both do.

Tossing beer fridges at people can sometimes be useful.

The same analogy can be said about people who want to be good at poker, and are, but don't truly compete for notoriety or significant gain. Your bar-free roll guys who constantly win the free game and $10 sides etc.

They simply enjoy how it makes them feel when they do well, enjoy the camaraderie and those that participate in the same activity for the same reasons.

sure, it's great to be in the company of those who enjoy what you do.

but why the hate on randoms who don't?

is it just a defense mechanism ? i.e. he may look bigger and stronger than me, but im smarter than him!

Yeah, you're right. It is physically impossible for him not to be crushing bench/db press/whatever isolation he does even if he sucks balls at squatting. I'm somewhat jealous, but then I remember there's likely an unending cycle of test-e, arm isolation, posing trunks, fake tans, dieting, erectile dysunction from starvation etc. This isn't just an average bro, but a competitive bodybuilder. I thought those types squatted and dled universally, I guess I was wrong.

Speaking of which, I know a differrent guy who's now 22 and on an unending cycle of test-e. His fiancee oly lifted at my club and I knew him from high school tennis. They actually switched gyms to the one I'm at but I rarely see them. According to fiancee, he got injectable roids but couldn't find the anti-estrogen drug for cycling off (which took me about 4.5 minutes of googling). He's aspiring to be a competitive bber so he decided to just inject it anyway and perma-cycle! Been on it for 6 months now. And surprise surprise, he doesn't squat or dl, but regularly incline benches 275x10 so at least I can see where his hugeness comes from.

What's the prize? Also, I'd totally do it assuming the prize is more than just PT sessions.

Being known as the best bosu balance squatter, or bosu squat balancer, or squat balance bosuer, or whatever it's called, isn't reward in itself?

!!!

I know we were having the roids argument earlier, but I can't see this being healthy long term. Do they just not have natural production and inject as a substitute for their whole lives? Well... even if it's not unhealthy, it would probably be expensive as ****.
