Mine closes at 10 pm M-F and 8 pm on Sat/Sun

I'm a bit of a night owl so this irks me especially on the weekends.

Especially considering all the little crappier gyms around that are 24 hours.

lol i'd love it if someone tried to do this to me

I'm thinking it's because they don't do as much business on weekends. Or at least I assume so, as there's always way less people in the gym I go to on weekends.

I have 3 (4 counting Curves) gyms in my town. The latest one closes at 5 on Saturday and 4 on Sunday so this is pretty common.

Yeah kpc, you might be in the 10% but I doubt you're offering up much ******ed advice anyway. If my form sucks, I want a good trainer to point it out, provided he doesn't do it in a manner that is completely ridiculous.

fyp but yeah, i would be giving good advice and explaining exactly why i think like i do and not some arbitrary reason like "because i'm the trainer".

Dont know why people have such a problem with squat rack curlers. I prefer barbell curls over any other type of curls and the squat rack is the best place to do them. My gym has 4 squat racks and 2 power racks though so when I do want to squat I never have to wait over 5 minutes.

Are you curling so much that you can't pick the bar up off the ground?

Why are you hatin on us power cage curlers bro? Relax with the "squats" and "push presses" brah, do some curlz they're good for your heart and **** too.

Bro, I wasn't hatin' -- I was impressed that he is curling 315 for reps.

Oh right right, my bad bro. Just assumed you were a typical hater like most "squatters".

Isn't this just a problem with really ****ty licensing organizations?
really ****ty licensing organizations are the vast majority of them. they're total croc. Even worse is when states have licensing laws (like for florists and interior decorators and ****.. gmab). As far as I can tell, none of that is really required for personal training, which is a good thing. The only real harm in ****ty licensing is, like I said, giving consumers a false sense of expectation of expertise.

i dunno, if I hired a personal trainer, and some assclown started dressing him down, and the personal trainer punched him in the face, I'd be sold he's a pretty decent personal trainer.

we only have a certain amount of barbells so its either use one from the squat rack or from a bench

I saw a guy last Fri with 40lb DB's workin the body curls. His elbow maintained a 90 degree flex while he rocked the weight from the bottom to the top. He'd do 2 or 3 reps, then grab a pr of 45's, then back to 40's.

last week there were bro's with 405 in the rack though, heavy single box squats. In one direction only, not a one ever got their ass off the home made box, then his pals would grab the bar and re-rack it.

was about to do rows in the squat rack when some small indian kid asks me if im still using the rack, i ask if he's gonna squat and when he says yes i move. He then proceeds to put on 185 pounds and the pussy pad, and move the safety bars up to around his stomach. Then starts doing reps with about 2 inch rom, making a huge grunting sound each rep.

im pretty sure this means over extending your neck and sounds seriously dangerous.

next time he does this, especially if he's with a client, respond "no, you're wrong"

For what it's worth, if you look up some videos of Kirk Karwoski squatting sometime, you'll see that he's looking a lot farther up than you guys are recommending.

Powerlifters usually look straight ahead. All the videos I have seen of Kirk have him doing likewise iirc.

his head is always pretty much looking straight ahead.

I've been doing it wrong for years now apparently. You don't "do" a set or "perform" a set, you instead "bang out" a set.

I heard a bro in the gym today use the term "bang out a set" at least 4 times in the brief time I was over in his vicinity.

To his credit he was doing 225 squats with good form. He banged out at least 3 sets while I was over there.

My gym has this thing that looks like a power rack but has a barbell hanging by cables. When you place your hands on the bar, the machine recognizes that you are holding the bar and you can lift like normal. If you fail, you're supposed to take a hand off and it spots you. Anyway, they have a poster that shows you how to use it...apparently they moved the machine and the poster is no longer anywhere close to the machine.

The poster is now directly behind the bench press...

You know what, it's possible that I misread some of the quotes above in reference to where you should look when squatting. Probably because I was looking too far down and thought it was based on advice I got here. In any case, switching to looking straight ahead/slightly up (instead of looking at a spot on the floor 5-6 feet away from me) made a huge difference for me.
